As a child J. S. Bailey escaped to fantastic worlds through the magic of books and began to write as soon as she could pick up a pen. She dabbled in writing science fiction until she discovered supernatural suspense novels and decided to write her own. Today her stories focus on unassuming characters who are thrown into terrifying situations which may or may not involve ghosts, demons, and evil old men.

Bailey lives with her husband in Cincinnati, Ohio.

More books by J.S. Bailey…
Good evening, readers!

If you've been tuning into this blog over the past year, you may have spotted some of my earlier audiobook giveaways. These giveaways were open to residents of the US and UK, yet all of the winners resided in the US! I feel like I'm a fair person, so this time I'm giving away free audiobook copies of Servant, Sacrifice, and Ordinary Souls to TWO lucky winners who reside in... Read more of this blog post »

And since this review doesn't really have to do with The Shining itself, does that mean it violates Goodreads's new review policies? We shall see

“The world is one unending chess match, my dear, and I am the one playing it how I please. I poke and prod to move my pieces to places I find desirable. And the defiant ones who resist me I simply remove from the board." He pulled up his right sleeve, showing Laura a sheathed dagger strapped to his arm. "But you, Laura, are not of this chess match at all. You walked unexpectedly onto my board, scattering my pieces out of the way, the ones that I had worked on so tirelessly to arrange to perfection.”
J.S. Bailey, The Land Beyond the Portal

“There are people who hate the truth. It is a poison to them. The only way to protect themselves from the poison is to eliminate those who bring it.”
J.S. Bailey, Vapors

“Only the flesh dies, Kerry. The flesh is vapor. When the vapor drifts away and is gone, only we remain.”
J.S. Bailey, Vapors

Topics Mentioning This Author

“The world’s bumper sticker reads: Life sucks, and then you die. Perhaps Christian bumper stickers should read: Life sucks, but then you find hope and you can’t wait to die.”
Ted Dekker, The Slumber of Christianity: Awakening a Passion for Heaven on Earth

“Grief can destroy you --or focus you. You can decide a relationship was all for nothing if it had to end in death, and you alone. OR you can realize that every moment of it had more meaning than you dared to recognize at the time, so much meaning it scared you, so you just lived, just took for granted the love and laughter of each day, and didn't allow yourself to consider the sacredness of it. But when it's over and you're alone, you begin to see that it wasn't just a movie and a dinner together, not just watching sunsets together, not just scrubbing a floor or washing dishes together or worrying over a high electric bill. It was everything, it was the why of life, every event and precious moment of it. The answer to the mystery of existence is the love you shared sometimes so imperfectly, and when the loss wakes you to the deeper beauty of it, to the sanctity of it, you can't get off your knees for a long time, you're driven to your knees not by the weight of the loss but by gratitude for what preceded the loss. And the ache is always there, but one day not the emptiness, because to nurture the emptiness, to take solace in it, is to disrespect the gift of life.”
Dean Koontz, Odd Hours

“The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want for nothing. He makes me lie down in the green pastures. He greases up my head with oil. He gives me kung-fu in the face of my enemies. Amen”
Stephen King, The Stand

“Suffering is an oxymoron. There is unfathomable peace and satisfaction in suffering for Christ. It is as though you have searched endlessly for your purpose in life and now found it in the most unexpected place: In the death of your flesh. It is certainly a moment worth of laughter and dance. And in the end it is not suffering at all. The apostle Paul recommended that we find joy in it. Was he mad?”
Ted Dekker, When Heaven Weeps

“As flowerlets drooped and puckered in the night turn up to the returning sun and spread their petals wide on his new warmth and light-just so my wilted spirits rose again and such a heat of zeal surged through my veins that I was born anew.”
Dante Alighieri
