Dangerous Exes

There was a very fine line between love and hate.
Or in my case, a very thin fence where hate decides to set up across the street and stare at you through binoculars even though you've repeatedly threatened to get a restraining order.
I glared. Jessie freaking Beckett.
Ex-client of Dirty Exes, the PI company my best friend and I built from the ground up.
Ex-quarterback.
Ex-pain in my ass.
I heaved out a breath, that's a lot of exes. A hell of a lot of exes. He gave me a small wave.
I flipped him off.
"He still there?" Blaire, my best friend and business partner, asked, turning the page of Cosmo while reaching for another piece of licorice.
"Yup." The p popped on the word, my chest ached with misplaced anger-it wasn't him I was angry at, it was the situation, the entire situation. I slammed the binoculars down, causing our receptionist, Abby, to jump in her seat.
Blaire held out the bucket of licorice. "Maybe it will help?"
"He's trying to ruin my company, how is sugar going to help?" I paced in front of my desk and tried to think of all the ways it went wrong.
Maybe it was the fact that for the first time since building the PI company, we were wrong about a target.
His wife was our client and had hired us to catch him in the act, but she had been the real cheater in the marriage, the user, the manipulator-but all the signs at the time had pointed to him. Every damn time.
I stretched my arms above my head and then pulled my tuxedo jacket tight over my plunging white blouse. I didn't do well with chaos.
I was a planner.
I had one Erin Condren planner for work, and another for home and recreational activities like my biweekly running and yoga sessions.
I even mapped out my meals on the front of my fridge in different-colored chalk for each day of the week. I'd never faltered in my routine, I never forgot to highlight, to color code. It was my life.
Until Jessie.
He was the wrench you throw in the perfectly good engine, causing it to sputter to its death.
I picked up the binoculars again, despite Blaire's heavy sigh. "He's just . . . staring right back at us. Leaning against his stupid Tesla like he owns the world. Why is he even driving a Tesla?"
"Why are we mad about his car again?" Blaire asked in a bored voice.
I glanced over my shoulder. "Don't you have a date with your perfect man-bun-wearing millionaire hotel-empire-owner slash bartender?"
"I love that you actually included the slash." Blaire laughed. "And yes, yes I do." She walked over to me and jerked the binoculars from my death grip. "Give it a rest, he's just trying to get into your head. He's still pissed about everything that was leaked to the press."
"That wasn't our fault and you know it." I put my hands on my hips. "That was his blood-sucking wife trying to make us and him look bad."
I'm a professional.
I'm in control.
Breathe in and out.
Everything is fine.
I'm co-partner of one of the premier PI companies in Hollywood.
I'm the Beyoncé of catching cheaters with their pants down.
Everything.
Was.
Fine.
"Right." Blaire nodded slowly. "But in the end it just made him look stupid in front of the entire world-in front of a world that he's trying to make a better place through all of his charity endeavors, which means, even though he's not a terrible person, everyone now thinks he is."
A headache pulsed behind my temples, I rubbed my head and tried to think of a solution. It's what I did. I fixed things. I fixed broken marriages, relationships, and if a client was too far gone and in a free fall, I handed them a safety net and made it better.
Yet every time I thought of Jessie Beckett I either wanted to inflict violence on his person, or just . . . huh, I guess all I really wanted was to fight him.
I was tall.
He was muscular.
I would lose.
He would laugh.
Plus it would mean touching him.
I shivered.
"Cold?" Blaire grinned.
"You're still here?" I said, confused.
She shoved me toward the door. "Go talk to him, throw up the white flag, and move on. Thanks to the news, we didn't get the short end of the stick and have a client load that's going to force us to take on another employee."
I sagged a bit. "Right, you're right. Okay, I'll just tell him it's over. How hard can it be? He has to be bored out of his mind anyway. He's been there all day."
Blaire smiled and then gave me an encouraging nod before walking to her car. I gulped at Jessie and stared him down, all six foot four of him.
There were so many things wrong with him as a human that I was offended just thinking about them.
For one, his eyes were too knowing, like he'd already done a search on every single part of your body that responded to male touch and memorized it just in case he got the chance to corner you.
His light eyes against tan skin, dark hair that was a bit longer in the back, curling at the ends and making a girl think about giving them a tug.
And don't even get me started on his muscular build.
It said one thing, in bold colors above his head, that he put physical perfection above all else and wanted everyone else to not only know it, but comment about it, appreciate it-he basically had a big giant freaking "You're Welcome" sign hovering over him. And it irritated me.
It irritated me that when I'd tried to get close to him during our investigation, he didn't play into my hands as easily as I was used to with most of our targets.
And to be honest, it stung a bit that when I dumbly threw myself in his face in order to distract him from Blaire-he looked at me like I was a sad excuse for bait. I'd never had a guy react to me in that way, typically it was easy to distract them, tempt them to default to their cheating tendencies, catch them on camera, and be done. But Jessie . . . Jessie hadn't even blinked in interest-if anything, I annoyed him. Which in turn annoyed me, made me try harder to push his buttons, until he relented and we became friends.
He gave me another small wave.
I steeled my gaze and made the slow, painful walk across the street.
From friends.
To enemies.
In one final swipe.
Bastard.

Dangerous Exes

Guys, I could not be more pumped to bring you Dangerous Exes this October! I love love love romances that have this crazy thread of love/hate sprinkled throughout. Hope everyone is having a fantastic week! Dont forget to add to your shelf!

Elite Giveaway....Team Nixon or Team Chase????

Are you in????
Ready for an AMAZING contest?
I KNOW I AM! It seems like I've been waiting FOR YEARS for this book to re-release...for those of you who don't know. A re-release just  means it's no longer published by yours truly, but by Forever an imprint of Hachette. New Cover same content...though it's totally possible they put a teaser of Elect in there, who knows? They did for The Bet/The Wager so we shall see!
Here's how this contest works. Use the rafflecopter below to enter...be sure that when you tweet to include these things:
@ForeverRomance @RachVDHashtags: #Elite, #TeamNixon, #TeamChase
Above all, have fun, share away, and here's a little Elect Teaser to get you going!
ELECT (Eagle Elite 2)
“Nevermind.” Chase got up from the couch, “Look I need to go—“ He pointed to the door, “Take a break from security detail, I’ll come back and get her for her last class and you and I can chat okay?”             “Fine.” I watched him leave. Nervousness making a damn hole in my stomach. I walked Trace over to the couch.            Her eyes were glued to my bare stomach.            “Not my face, Trace.” I tilted her chin up. She blushed and then closed her eyes.             “That was embarrassing.”            “Not for me.” I grinned, “Now, stop objectifying, and tell me what happened in class.”            For the next five minutes I was given a play by play of the entire scenario between Chase and Trace.             It took me exactly five seconds to decide that I was going to murder him on the spot for putting her in that position. Ten seconds after that, I was feeling such insane jealousy that his body was pressed against hers, I almost grabbed my gun and took off after him.             “So….” Trace shrugged,  “Chase gave me some tough love, said to buck up, and I did it. I actually pinned him to the ground.”            I snorted. “I’m sure he loved that.”            “What?” Trace tilted her head. Was she really that clueless?             “Do you really have no idea?” I tucked some of her dark hair behind her ear and sighed, “No idea at all?”            “Idea? Help me out Nixon, I don’t speak crazy.”            Cursing, I pulled her into my lap and wrapped her legs around my waist so her body was pressed against mine. “You. Are. Gorgeous.”            I braced her hips with my hands and slowly moved them up as I looked at her perfect body as it fit like a missing piece to my puzzle. “Any guy would be an idiot not to be having a problem keeping it in his pants around you, Trace. And that’s the truth.”            “You don’t seem to have a problem with it?” She winked.            I growled and jerked her head towards mine, crushing my lips against hers. I slipped my tongue past the barrier of her lips and promised myself she’d forget Chase even touched her today. “Right,” I growled low in the back of my throat, “No problem whatsoever, I’m basically a saint.” I brought her hands down the front of my chest and lower to my jeans. “You need to know one thing, sweetheart.”            “What?” Her hands froze on my abs.             “I would kill my own cousin.”            “What?” Her expression turned horrified as her eyes widned and mouth dropped open.            “I would.” I shrugged, “Because he knows you aren’t his to touch, you aren’t his to want.”            “And I’m yours?” Oh great now I’ve pissed her off.            I gripped her face between my hands and kissed her mouth softly, “Yes. Whether you like it or not, we belong to each other. I’m as much yours as you are mine—I don’t share. I want to freaking murder anyone who even as much as looks in your direction, or at your shoes, and damn if I don’t hate those boots that Chase got you. I want to consume you. I want to be the one that puts a smile on your face. I want to be the one that teaches you pleasure—me. Not anyone else. Sharing you—even by way of my cousin who I trust more than anyone in the world—has to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.” That's all for now!!! Let me know if any of you have questions about the contest!

Teaser Tuesday

Forever: A Seaside Novella

I just LOVE teasers....don't you???

The first thing I thought when we got to the Saddle Mountain trail, was that it looked a lot easier on the internet.            “This is...” Demetri nodded, “Totally doable.”            As if God was punishing us or quite possibly laughing in our faces, it began to rain.             “Aw crap.” Jaymeson threw the stick down, “Well, looks like we have to cancel the hike. Never fear, I’ll just search up a nice little bar we can go to..”            “Put your phone away.” Demetri snapped.            “But—“            “Now!” He threw his own stick to the ground and stomped on it, “We’re men damn it! Are we going to let a little rain cause us to cry?”            “No sir.” I smirked.            “Are we going to be pansy asses and run back to our car with our tails between our legs because the trail looks hard?”
“No sir!” this time I yelled.            Jaymesons eyes narrowed into slits.            “What say you, Brit?”            “Bloody hell.” Jaymeson grumbled, “That’s what I say.” And then he stomped up the trail.             “I wish I could say that without sounding like an ass.” Demetri sighed, “They have all the cool swear words.”            “True.” I felt my eyebrows knit with concern when Jaymesons foot slipped causing him to crash to his knees.            “Ouch.” Demetri called after him, “You okay?”            Jaymesons answer was more cursing.            “He’ll be fine.” I shook my head, “He’s just not used to nature.”            “You can take the actor out of Hollywood—“            “—but you just can’t take the Hollywood out of the actor.” I sighed, “Alright, let’s conquer this beast.”            The rain let up once we neared the top of the trail. Mist surrounded us on all sides and then like magic, it disappeared, revealing the ocean to the west.             “Whoa.” Demetri huffed next to me, “That’s freaking intense!”            “I almost died.” Jaymeson called behind us, “Not that either one of you care. By the way I called for you, both of you, I told you I was slipping. Nothing, not one bloody word.”            “Wow, totally worth it for the view, right?” I nudged Demetri.            “Insane.”            “Hello!” Jayemson stumbled behind us, “Did you hear nothing I just said? I almost slipped off a freaking cliff! And—“ he paused, “Damn. That’s a sick view.”            “Right?” I said putting my arms around both guys, “Thanks..you know, for everything this last summer. For putting up with my shit and—“            “---hell,” Jaymeson muttered, “he’s going to make us cry.”            “No.” I laughed, “I just appreciate you guys, I wouldn’t be here without you.”            “Cheers.” Jaymeson laughed, “And I wouldn’t be in hell without you guys, so I guess we’re all even now, yeah?”
“Sure.” Demetri chuckled, “You know it’s going to be a crazy year…we’ve got our tour, you’re getting married, having a kid…Jaymeson’s finally going to fall for a chick—“            “When pigs fly.” Jaymeson snorted.            “Look!” Demetri pointed at the sky, “A cloud shaped like a pig. And I rest my case.”            “That’s a cow.” Jaymeson pointed, “It has spots.”            “Pig.” Demetri said.            “Cow!”            “Pig”            “Guys!” I released them both from my hold and laughed, “Let’s tweet some pics and get back down the mountain, we have a rehearsal dinner to get ready for.”            “At my place, right?” Jaymeson yawned and then scratched his head and looked down at his feet.            “Right.” My eyes narrowed, “We’ll get ready at your beach rental while the girls do their thing at my house—“ Jaymeson started whistling, “What’s going on?”            “What?” Jaymeson sputtered, “Nothing, not one bloody, bloody,” He gulped, “Thing.”            “Lies.” Demetri called, “Why are you so pale?”            “I’m English, we see the sun like twice out of the year.”            “Lame.” Demetri called, “You’ve lived in LA for the past ten years. You have a beach house in Malibu, try again.”            “Dehydration.” Jaymeson coughed, “And uh, I think I swallowed a few bugs when I was falling down the cliff.”            The rain started all over again. “Fine,” I licked my lips, “Lets get back, and Jaymeson walk in the middle so you don’t fall to your death.”            “Oh so now you’re concerned.”            Demetri ran down the trail in front of us and then stopped and hunched over huffing and puffing. “It looks easier on TV.”            “What does?” I asked.            “Exercise.”            “One of these days you’re going to have to work at your body,” Jaymeson nudged Demetri, “No way is that six pack going to last with the couch permanently attached to your ass.”            “Hey!” Demetri said in a hoarse voice, “At least I don’t name the objects in my life after women.”            “He has you there.” I chuckled.            “Nothing wrong with a man loving his car.”            “What was the name of the last girl you were with?” Demetri asked.            Jaymeson seemed to think about it and then said, “Sara-bel-la?”            “Are you asking or telling?” Demetri said.            “Telling, it was definitely Sarabella.”            “Cool, did she live on the prairie and cook you biscuits?” He grinned, “ And nice try but that was the name of your love interest in the last movie you did.”            “Damn.” Jaymeson swore.             The rain pounded harder making me push the guys towards the covering of the trees, “Come on, we’re going to be late!”            “Believe me,” Demetri called in front of me, “Nat’s not going anywhere.”
