Melody Wright Scott was born in San Diego, California and raised in nearby Riverside, California where she graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School and again from California Polytechnic College in Pomona, California, majoring in Psychology.
Over her career she worked as a school teacher, as a Human Resources Secretary for the Riverside Press Enterprise, then the only newspaper in Riverside County, pursued the joys of horse ownership, owned a Western shirt company, and sold perfume.
She lived for years on the edge of the arid Coachella Desert before escaping to the eighty shades of green in the North Georgia Mountains. She brought her husband, two children, various dogs and cats and was forced to give up her horses to the move.
Melody obtained her real estate license in 1978 and has treasured it ever since. She’s worn several other hats over the years, working for her husband’s irrigation wholesale company, moving temporarily to Florida, then again to San Diego for one year. She worked lake, residential, and farm properties for two companies in Forsyth County, Dawson County, and the other counties surrounding Lake Lanier until she gave it all up to write real estate mysteries.
Her stories point out the specifics faced by realtors in their daily lives and add some local history for its significance from her twenty-five years as a realtor working at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia. Her characters are developed from her clients and her long list of cousins. She loves writing, painting, and relishes the opportunity to meet people who read. Her mantra is “You are what you read.”
She’s had several short stories published in various magazines such as Confection, The Lyric, Promises to Keep, Woman, Horizon Magazine, and the North Georgia Star.
Her first novel, Auraria Dead, was published by Wolfmont Press in 2011, and was accepted by the Atlanta Prose Stage to be read at the Decatur Book Festival in 2011, as well as The Dahlonega Book Fair, sponsored by North Georgia College and State University, 2011.
She has written two other real estate thrillers in the Maria Sebastian series, Chattahoochee Dead and Silver Strutter Dead. All three books are available on Amazon.
Today she lives in the original gold country of Dawsonville, GA with her husband of forever and her little dog. She is still a licensed real estate agent and belongs to the local Board of Realtors, the Chamber of Commerce, two writing groups, a book club, Sisters In Crime, and Southeastern Mystery Writers of America. She also participates in the Dawson County Arts Council as much as possible.
