Dining

"The girls turned and looked in the direction Linda was facing.  Jillian, Robert, and a couple of the other girls were dancing on the dining room table."--Lisa Loomis (Gem Rats)

Mother's Day

I don't think it is easy being a mother, or a parent in general for that matter.  We do the best we can as parents, the best we as individuals know how, but how kids turn out reaches a point beyond our control.  I'm amazed by my kids, don't get me wrong.  For the kook they had to deal with as a mother they have turned out to be awesome.  Maybe there was just enough kook I don't know, I don't pretend to have the answer.  My own mom never got to see my kids, I never got to share my joys, sorrows, and struggles with her.  I never got to get her advice, I only could guess at what she would say.  What I do know is that a lot of my strength came from my mom and I thank her for that.  Our parents are huge influences on our lives but in the end we, as individuals, are responsible for how we turn out.  Today celebrate all the good things your mother gave you and if you are lucky enough to be able to sit down to breakfast, lunch, dinner, a Bloody Mary, you are lucky.

Six a.m.

"Stella gazed around the gym as Rachel did her pull ups.  The usually six am crowd was here.  Stella liked this gym because it wasn’t so busy and its clientele was a little more focused on working out then hooking up.  Weights clinked as a middle aged man loaded the bench press across the room.  The grunter she called him, Stella hated when men did that, grunted loudly as they lifted."--Lisa Loomis (Gem Rats)

Boy in a Band excerpt

When he next put down his guitar he surprised me by getting up and moving toward me.  As I watched him get closer he gave me a knowing smile.  Knowing what, my thoughts?  That’s what it felt like.  I took a slow breath in as he dropped down next to me on the bed.

Dancing

"The alcohol was flowing freely and I stayed longer than I planned because Randy and I were having a good time dancing together.  At first I was nervous this would get back to Max but as the evening progressed I no longer cared."--Lisa Loomis (Casanova Cowboy) available at Amazon.com

Casanova Cowboy--excerpt 15

I said yes to a date that amounted to me trying to make small talk when I didn’t want to.  I decided I was better off at home with a good book or a movie.  It was one of those nights when Ryan stopped by unexpectedly.  I was alone curled up on the couch with a glass of wine reading a People magazine when the doorbell rang.  When I opened the door I was surprised to see him.            I stared at him feeling the anger growing me. Who was he to show up without even calling after weeks of silence?

            “Hey,” he said.

I stood with the door partially open.  He looked past me.

            “I’m alone,” I said.

“Can I come in then?” he asked holding out a pack of Good and Plenty candy.

I opened the door, not taking the box from him, and walked back to my spot on the couch.  I watched him shut the door and then stand uncomfortably in my entry.  It was like he didn’t know how to start.  I let the silence linger not helping him.
