Freak out
“Tommy wanted sex tonight. I had to escape and you were my out. His text made me so upset I went
shopping. He will freak when he gets the
bill, but I don’t care. I bought a
couple of new outfits and some lingerie.
I put the clothes on his credit card, the lingerie I paid cash for. No need to get grilled on that too when the
bill comes in. Lucky me, he just paid
the bill last week, so thirty days before I have the come to Jesus talk,”
Stella fumed.

Mixed signals
“NO! Shut up, let me get this out. You have given lots of mixed signals, or maybe
I misread them, but I don’t think so. In
either case I have at times thought you had feelings too. You coming into my world, and it was my
world, at Bret Harte, has been fucking hard for me, okay?”
I had to stop a minute
to fight the tears.

Chase
The chase was on I figured, players were generally like that, chase
till they get what they want, then game over.
I didn’t believe for a minute that I was the one to change him.

Writing
A Horse Named Joe is off to be edited. I've started two new novels, one is based on a real life story (totally new for me), the other a young adult novel. Excited about both and so far so good!

Our stories
I heard last night that a classmate died at 52. Back in high school 52 seemed old, but now that I am 52 it doesn't at all. I didn't know Mark real well, he seemed rather quiet to me, but I was the new girl at the school all those years ago, and didn't fit in so well. Now I wish I knew his story better, because we all have one. What it makes me think about is all the things we do or don't do that make us who we are. We have one go at this, that's it, and right or wrong I guess I've always tried to go for it. My Mom dieing at 54 probably gave me a pretty good nudge. These types of things are what I need to remember when I think I can't write...there are just so many stories that need telling. RIP Mark.

Torturous Wench
Luke turned the wheel so the wind would once again fill the sails
and we continued down the coast. I climbed
up into the main sail and lay against it with my feet on the boom. I whipped off the towel and stood naked in
the sail. We were far enough out that no
one could see except Luke.
“You’re a
torturous wench,” he said.
“Don’t look, don’t
torture yourself,” I teased.
