Mathew Ally
“Well?”
she asked, a hint of anger lacing her question.
“Well? Nice secret the two of you
cooked up. Since when did you, of all people, become a Mathew ally?”
“I haven’t become a Mathew ally. He
can be very persistent when he wants something.”
“Really?” I said sarcastically. “Explain.”
I pulled the phone cord and sat down
at Emily’s kitchen table.
“He wanted to know if you were
coming: when, where, all the details. I resisted at first, knowing how last
summer ended. In fact I was rude to him. I told him what an asshole he was. He
asked if you were seeing anyone. I told him I thought you definitely were.”

Pain so deep
A Chick lit novel On Amazon
Immerse yourself in the lives of women who bond through their personal trainer....
“How
was Rachel’s work out?” Jillian asked, her mouth full as she finished the last
bite of her egg.
When Stella didn’t answer Jillian turned toward her. The tears
were rolling down Stella’s face. Big tears, running, pooling, and dripping off
her chin onto her plate.
“Oh, honey,” Jillian cried, wrapping
her arm around Stella’s shoulder, squeezing her quickly.
She picked up their empty plates and
moved around the island setting them in the sink and then grabbed several
tissues from the Kleenex holder on her counter as she circled back around. Stella’s
tears were silent, like she had turned on a faucet. Not like real crying where
the emotion came forward with the tears. This was the scary kind of crying, the
type where the pain was so deep that there was no sound.

Make summer last
Watch for more info on Sept 10th
A Chick Lit novel....make summer last. Join Roni on an adventure in the Bahamas
It seemed like even more food than
the last time, piled high with fish fingers and fries. Maybe Roe had asked them
to put some extra on. Roni started in on the fish. Oh yeah, it was crunchy on the outside and tender white flaky on
the inside. At home, she would have baked it or grilled it, but it was incredibly
tasty fried. Several other parties came into the bar and Roe got busy, taking
orders, making drinks, and delivering them. Roni watched Roe move around as she
ate; by the time Roe was caught up, Roni was finished eating.
“Ya
ain' finished. Ya eat like a bird,” Roe said in dismay.
“Oh
yes, I’m finished. Like I told you, it’s too much food for me,” Roni said, sliding
the plate toward her.
Roe took a fry and popped it in her
mouth as she moved the plate to the back of the bar.

Not hurt enough
“Have you ever been in love, Ryan?” I asked, sort of offhandedly.
I figured Carrie was the love he’d let slip away, but he hadn’t told me
that. I leaned forward in the seat and swung my skis slightly, attempting to
warm my legs.
“Thought I was once, the girl I dated in Florida,” he said.
I was right, it had been Carrie.
“What happened?” I asked. “I mean I know she went to Virginia with
you.”
“Yeah, she came with me when I started the building business. She got a
job at a local bank. We had an apartment together and two dogs. She got homesick
and left me,” he said flatly.
“Were you hurt?” I asked.
“Yeah,” he said, “but not hurt enough.”

Tons
An erotica romance novel--unpredictable, not a Cinderella story On Amazon
After
dinner, Mathew suggested we take a swim and hot tub and excused us to go change.
I walked with him down the hallway towards his old room. The carpet felt the
same, smelled the same, so much had happened here. He’d thrown our suits on his
old bed. Even his room still smelled like him. He had taken most of his things,
although his sports trophies and some other memorabilia remained on the shelves.
The guitars and amps had all gone over to Jack’s. He handed me my suit.
“Brings
back a flood of memories, doesn’t it?” he asked.
I looked
around slowly, my head feeling like it was jerking. The drywall dent was still
in the wall, from the weight I’d thrown at him so long ago.
“Tons,” I murmured.

Wide awake
An erotica romance novel--unpredictable, yes On Amazon
I wasn’t sure what he meant. I thought about
asking when I realized he was asleep. It was still light out. I pushed his hair
back, playing with it, loving his thick, blond hair. I gently arranged it
around his shoulders. The tightness I had seen earlier in his jaw was gone. I
traced my finger around his mouth, around his lips soft and full. I’d sobered
up, but the cocaine had me wide awake. I lay there, and watched him sleep while
I replayed the day’s events in my head.

The watch
The watch, Roni thought, as she rested her head
back into the seat. It had been their twentieth anniversary. She and Mack were
in Saint John when she saw it in the hotel gift shop. He knew she liked it, but
he thought it was too much to pay for a watch. While Roni showered after a day
on the beach, Mack had gone to the shop and surprised her at dinner with it. It
was a romantic dinner, an open-air restaurant right on the beach, soft
candlelight. Roni could picture it clearly in her mind, back when things were
good and she felt like they didn’t have any worries. Funny how only a few years
would put them in such a different place. It had been over two years since that
terrible Monday. The day she learned that Lehman Brothers was no more.

Something fresh
When he got ready to leave, he reached out and pulled me to him, hugging
me tightly. I buried my face in his neck, smelling his good smell, something fresh,
something I couldn’t put my finger on exactly. As I stood there with Ryan
holding me, I could feel the lump grow in my throat. I hoped he would come
visit, his question not just being talk. I felt lonelier than I could ever
remember feeling. I was going home.
“Have a safe trip back,” he whispered, his lips touching my hair next
to my ear. “You’ll be fine.”
