J. Leigh Bralick's Blog: Wandering Lost Roads - Posts Tagged "giveaway"

Well...I haven't blogged in a long time. Bad, bad J. Leigh. Got swamped by a lot of stuff, including a lot of non-writing stuff, which has put me out of the mood for blogging quite a bit. Since my last post, I even went through a nasty bout of writer's block. Never fun. Seems to be easier to break out of these days than it used to be. I actually remember one span of writer's block that lasted six months. Yep. Didn't write a word that whole time...at least, fiction-wise. That was pretty much a dark, sad time in my life.

Anyway. I digress. Not that I ever really had a trajectory for this post that I could digress from....but you know.

I've actually passed the halfway mark for Subverter. It's amazing how much easier it is to write from scratch than to try to resuscitate a novel you started as a young teenager...which read like a young teenager had written it. Argh.

But anyway, the novel is turning out to be a lot more fun to write than I'd anticipated. I've really been enjoying the chance to explore Arah Byen a little more in depth, and getting to know some of the characters a bit better. Some things may surprise you. I hope. They surprised me.

In other news...I'm always looking for new writing music. Got any favorites for recommendations? I prefer instrumental or music with lyrics in other languages...less distracting while I write. I like mellow, melancholy music quite a lot. Some of my favorites right now include Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, Lisa Gerrard / Dead Can Dance, Nightwish, Faun....stuff like that. So, feel free to fire off any suggestions!

Maybe I could make that into a giveaway contest..... *ponder* Okay. The first person to recommend a new artist or album I really love can get an autographed copy of my book. That sounds like fun! ^_^

Oh, and something else for fun. Here is a character portrait I did for Yatol!

Well, everyone, for the month of October, you can download the ebook of Down a Lost Road for free at Smashwords! I'm hoping that eventually it will show up free on Amazon, too, but sometimes it takes them a while to change prices to zero... For now it's on sale there for $.99.

I'm working hard on Subverter, hoping to have it done by Christmas -- though that's a rather tall order at this point! I'm over halfway done, but the story is giving me fits trying to go in strange, unexpected directions. We'll see. Maybe it's ideas for the plot are better than mine. ;-)

Hey everyone! To celebrate the first birthday of my YA fantasy novel, Down a Lost Road, I've decided to make it free for a month. It's available on Amazon, B&N, and Smashwords, as well as the iTunes store and elsewhere.

Also, I'm hosting a giveaway right here on GR, so check that out here.

Have fun!
