J. Leigh Bralick is a fantasy author by day and an RN by night...or vice versa, depending on the day. She originally got her bachelor's in medieval history and MA in political philosophy, but decided on a career change when she realized she didn't want to teach, and no one was going to pay her exorbitant sums of money to use her learning to invent fantasy worlds. (She still holds out hope on that score, however.)

After growing up all around the country as a military brat, she now lives in Dallas, TX with a crazy menagerie of animals and more books than she legitimately has space for. When she isn't writing or working, she enjoys ballet and Krav Maga, hiking, and sharing gory ER stories with her friends.

It sort of depends on what you consider "writing", and what you consider a "book"...;-) I remember drawing pictures and captioning them with stories when I was very young (mostly of unicorns and pegasuses — pegasi? — or, unipegs or pegicorns or whatever you want to call mythical horses with horns and wings...;) when I was very little. My first actual story attempt was about a girl who wanted to buy a puppy but only had a wheat-penny. I think I was about 6 when I started it, but the computer ate that magnum opus so I never got to finish it. This was a great travesty in my young life. :(

My first real book I started writing when I was about 10. It was going to be an epic fantasy of great magnificence. I put it away for a couple years, took it back out a few years later, worked on it here and there, finished it when I was 17, edited the heck out of it for a couple years until I swore it was perfect, took it to a workshop, realized it was total garbage (well, almost), worked on it a bit more, and then shelved it again, which is where it will stay until I get a chance to rework the plot. I recently realized that I've got probably a hundred-some pages of world-building material for that book...and that's work I don't want to throw away. (Plus, Braden was my first love and I will never, ever abandon him, so someday I will finish his story.:)

I started working on the story that became Down a Lost Road when I was about 12. It went through similar phases of work-edit-shelved before I was ready to call it finished, and even then it went through a couple more revisions before it became the book it is today.

That's probably more of an answer than you wanted to get, but hey. (At least I can say, thank God it doesn't take me 15 years to finish a book any more!;)(less)

But stay tuned — there will be story snippets, title reveal, and cover reveal coming out between now and then! Maybe even prizes of some variety...I'm open to suggestions. :-)(less)

That's right...five more days until Down a Lost Road: Extended Edition is released! I'm so excited to share this book with y'all...I've been wanting to give this series some TLC for a while now, and this felt like a great time to do it! I've found that I really enjoy writing from alternating POVs—that's my sweet spot, so I thought I'd go ahead and bring that style to DALR too.

“Sometimes people need to know they could be forgiven to have the strength to change.”
J. Leigh Bralick, Prism

“When I was younger, I used to think that loving someone meant being weak. I thought it meant giving yourself up and losing your identity, and becoming just an other to someone else. I thought that only those who weren’t strong enough to stand on their own needed someone to lean on. I never realized that love is as much about giving strength as accepting it, and that love doesn’t mean that you can’t stand on your own, but only that now you can fly.”

“Men are not angels,” Akhmar affirmed. “And so men have the chance to be noble, in a way that angels cannot.”
J. Leigh Bralick, Down a Lost Road
