Joe Okonkwo is the author of the novel Jazz Moon, winner of the Publishing Triangle's Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction. Jazz Moon was also a Lambda Literary finalist for Best Gay Fiction.

His short stories have appeared in The Piltdown Review, Chelsea Station, Shotgun Honey, and The New Engagement. His work has been anthologized in Best Gay Stories 2015, Best Gay Love Stories 2009, Love Stories from Africa, and Strength.

Joe served as prose editor for Newtown Literary, a journal in Queens, NY, with a focus on nurturing Queens writers. He has taught creative writing at Gotham Writers' Workshop and served on the planning committee for the Provincetown Book Festival.
