cover art drafts
Well, I’m thinking about cover art now for Eidylon, and I’d like a bit of input from you fine folks. I’d been sitting on the first design here for a while, but I’ve begun to feel that it needs something more. Maybe it’s just the color that’s off. Maybe the image is just not exciting (I think this is problem area number 1). Maybe I need to go with something completely different. Anyhow, I’d like some comments. Which of these, if any, would make you take a second look. Feel free to combine elem...

guest post: charlie anderson
Hi all,
Today I have a guest post for you from a new independent author. Charlie Anderson is the author ofThe Vision. She lives across the pond in the UK and is here to talk about three of my favourite things (and yours too, I hope): fantasy, Tolkien, and Norse mythology.
Over to you, Charlie:
Norse mythology, fantasy and Lord of the Rings (LOTR)
I want to thank Brondt for inviting me to guest-blog. It’s a great privilege, and Brondt, I appreciate your generosity.
In this post, I’ll discuss how J...

eidylon story and world map
I made a couple of posts last year regarding the use of maps in fantasy. I still feel that many maps can be a distraction, making it too easy for readers to forego using their heads to visualize the geography of a story. But maybe I just like to torture myself.
Well, as the year has turned, I’ve moved on to the writing ofEidylon, and the nature of the story tells me maps are a necessity, but only in so far as giving some basic reference to where things lie in relation to the city that lends it...

After many, many months saying I would do it, I’ve finally set up a Facebook page. You can click here to go to the page, or click on the “Like” button in the box to the right of this post.
Nothing much going on over there yet, but I’ll be building it up over the next few days. Anyhow, I’ll hopefully be able to use Facebook to keep folks up to date who don’t like blog hopping so much as seeing (and ignoring) updates in their news streams.
As for information on the next writing project: I’m getti...

some news and thoughts
Well, it’s been a week sinceHerolaunched. Truth be told, I’d already put the project behind me the moment I posted it for sale, turning my mind to my project-in-hiatus:Eidylon. Now, before I say anything about that, I want to make a comment or two aboutHero and about Amazon’s KDP Select program.
Firstly, those of you on the fence aboutHero, well, while it is different and takes a chance by presenting the story in an archaic fashion, I have been confirmed in my thoughts of not thinking it unapp...

hero: preview excerpt 2
Well, the book has been uploaded to Amazon, and now we await only for it to go live on the sales page. Until then, I leave you with another 1,000-word snippet of the tale.
Cheers!

Now, when these things were being accomplished, the Skraelings marched to Keis with their numbers much depleted. Six hundred of the giants came to the city, but they were of a confident mood, for theirs had not been the only force of Skraelings to make landing on Taen, only theirs were the ships to come ashor...

hero: preview excerpt 1
Boy, am I a bad blogger! This was supposed to be up sometime last week, but, well, I kind of got caught out by the first week returning to teaching and all the stuff I needed to take care of there. At any rate, the novel will be officially released tomorrow, available for purchase on Amazon at some point in the day.
I have decided again to make use of Amazon’s KDP Select programme, soHero will be exclusive to the internet bookseller for the next three months. I will perhaps (time permitting) w...

hero: blurb (it’s a working blurb, really…)
Right, so as promised, this is blurb–or something like it–forHero: The Saga of Prince Hael. In all truth, I feel summing up novels in under 100 words is perhaps my weakest skill in this whole writing thing, so I’m open to feedback, thoughts, etc. What do you think? Would this at least encourage you to crack the cover and take a gander at what’s inside?
Hero: The Saga of Prince Hael tells the tale of Hael of Taen, westernmost isle of the Westerness Archipelago. When his homeland is overrun by t...

hero: cover
Well, the day fast approaches, and yet–to my mind–it still feels so far away. I’m already beginning to transition in my thoughts, though, to the next project after this one, but lest I get too far ahead of myself, I have to curb my enthusiasm. I have a job to finish. And, sadly, it’s looking more and more likely that the release date will be pushed back from Friday next week to about Tuesday of the following week. But, we’ll see. That trip to CR for my sister’s wedding came at just the wrong...

the upcoming release: first look
So, having returned from Costa Rica yesterday morning in the wee hours before the dawn, I am both thoroughly buggered and eager to look ahead to the pending release of the new book. I’ll be looking to post information regarding the novel in the coming days leading up to next Friday, August 31 (which looks like the date now, though there is still a slight chance of up to a week’s delay–though no longer, I promise).
I’ll begin today by introducing the book, as I’ve said precious little about it...
