Thoughts on giving critiques to comics artists.
Seeing lots of discussion from students about sour experiences with an unhelpful art teacher, so here’s a long, long post about giving critiques.
NB: I have no formal training as a teacher, but I was a student, and I’ve spent decades giving artists feedback on their work.

One of my favorite places in the whole world was the patio @chrisroberson introduced me to at SDCC….
I’ve been to 1000 conventions lately (slight exaggeration) and one thing I’ve learned: outdoor social areas are absolutely essential. I go to cons to socialize and don’t feel great doing it indoors, where I have to stay masked. A patio is everything.
One of my favorite places in the whole world was the patio @chrisroberson introduced me to at SDCC. Spent most of the cons there socializing in peace while the insanity took place around us. Many fond memories!
This made me think of the window of time that Munich was a major film production hub worldwide….

This made me think of the window of time that Munich was a major film production hub worldwide. Thinking this and Neverending Story in particular.
And then I thought about the window of time when Minnesota was a major production hub with Grumpy Old Men, Mallrats, Fargo, and Mighty Ducks.
Small windows that changed the look of a medium, defining edges of eras.
