Dreams Are Made Of…

Do you believe in magic? Or miracles? Well… I stopped believing in magic and miracles once my hope and dreams are shattered, but I do believe that things can get better each day if you make effort to make things right from the bottom of your heart. I believe in living, and not just existing, and though there are times that I feel that I’m being pulled in the pit of a black hole, I try very, very hard to pull myself back up.

Does that make sense to you? A lot of people told me my actions does not make sense anymore these days, and I must be really out of my mind to be doing what I’m doing right now, but should I care what people think of me? Well, obviously not, because to me, what people think about me is none of my business. Only what I think of myself is important. MY opinion is the only thing that matters when it concerns myself.

You know… there are reasons why I distance myself from a lot of people these days. I no longer feel that I can open up to people…not even to close friends, cuz some things just hurt too deep, and I need to heal without people telling me what to do and judging me. Confiding does not bring any emotional relief anymore these days.

Shit happens. Shit always happens, but that does not mean you can’t try to clean it up and flush it away. If I were to describe my life, it would be an equivalence to a fantastic soap opera, with extremely good actor and actresses who deserves more than an Oscar award. Yes, each and every one of them deserves more than an Oscar, but as they say, if you can’t beat them, join them and make the best of it. My existence may not be relevant to many, but I’m relevent to me, myself and I and that’s all that matters.

Intimate Night with Ephyra

Would you agree with me if I say that marriage is a bed of roses? I’m not sure if you’d agree with me, but to me, marriage is like a bed of roses with thorns. It’s beautiful, but at the same time, can be painful and deadly. If you don’t thread carefully, you’ll definitely drown, especially when your marriage is on the rocks. Neway, being one of Ephyra’s official blogger, I was invited to an intimate dinner with Ephyra for social media influencers.image

When I first started to drink Ephyra, I had no idea that their official spokeperson is this famous and yet scandalous Malaysian artist. They used to make lotsa headline with their love affair before they got married. I won’t divulge much about their past, but for those who have been following the Malaysian entertainment industry will probably know what I’m talking about.

image

Norman Hakim and Memey Suhaiza. I’m envious of this couple. Despite of the stress cooked up by the entertainment journalists every now and then, they are still as lovey dovey as ever. :D

image.

And their secret is? Well…not just Ephyra, but staying connected by doing things that they mutually like together. :D Simple thing but something that most couple take for granted, including me and my other half.

Well, for what it’s worth, I’m glad that I was invited for the intimate dinner with Ephyra and other social media influencers. I’ve learned quite a lot from Norman Hakim and Memey Suhaiza, and before I end this post, I must say that Ephyra has changed my life for the better. Check out my previous post on Ephyra HERE and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

M2 Cafe and Catering

I don’t really make it a habit to drag my in-laws to blogger events. I’ve always prefer to keep my professional life where it belongs; at work, but for the first time ever, I made an exception. I invited my sister-in-law to attend a food review with me. She’s been quite a supportive sport to me these days, and I thought it would be nice if she could join me for dinner. And she did, despite of her busy schedule.

I really appreciate the fact that she put her family first before anything else. :D Where can you find a sister-in-law like that? She’s a gem, one of a kind. (And she’s still single… :P Ahemm, anyone wanna get to know her? She’s such a lovely thing, and I’ve featured her once in my blog for my Etude Any Cushion review)

Okay, okay, I’ll stop trying to matchmake my lovely sister-in-law. I bet she’ll be so cross with me if I were to really matchmake her in my blog.Hahaha :D As I said, she joined me for dinner in M2 Cafe& Catering.

Assorted seafood

Assorted fish balls

Fruit offerings

 photo IMG_3331_zpse2c2023e.jpg

Surprisingly, there’s also mushroom soup in the buffet. Comes really quite a surprise to me, to be honest.

 photo IMG_3354_zps02c51efc.jpg

Swissrolls…son loves these, but they’re a tad dry for me.

 photo IMG_3351_zps568ebbab.jpg

Cute cupcakes…the boy loves these…:P

 photo IMG_3360_zps301b505c.jpg

We took some clams crustaceans

 photo IMG_3363_zpsbfb75132.jpg

Some fishcakes

 photo IMG_3361_zps67487043.jpg

And of course, some processed seafood.

 photo IMG_3324_zpse76e2e96.jpg

But the real highlight is definitely their roasted lamb. It comes with savoury BBQ sauce.  I usually prefer mint sauce over BBQ sauce whenever I had roasted lamb, but these are pretty good. No gamey taste and pretty much tender. One of kiddo’s fav too. Ahemm…yours truly ate quite alot that night. No prize guessing who slept nude that night. :P

Heart Healing Advice That Actually Works

 photo HeartHealing1_zps631e0c52.jpg

Often when we see advice about getting over a breakup, or healing a wounded heart, the advice pertains to one gender or the other. For example, guys are supposed to visit strip clubs with their buddies, and girls are expected to go have spa days with their friends. It’s all very pretentious advice; guys, when was the last time a lap dance from a paid stripper made you feel better about a breakup? And girls, do freshly painted nails really take away the hurt?

Instead of offering the same old b.s., in this article we’ll go over four real, honest ideas for how to heal the heart – or at least how to forget about your ex for a day at a time in the early going. Here we go.

Drink – At Home, With Friends

Drinking is a tricky idea. Sometimes it’s exactly the solution you need; sometimes it’s a disaster, and you wind up pouring your heart out to your aggravated ex’s voicemail (not good). But drinking at home (going out can feel like a high pressure situation right after a breakup), with friends (drinking alone is just sad, unless you’re a brooding artist who actually enjoys Maker’s Mark) can be a blast. A couple drinks in with the people who care about you and you’ll find yourself laughing instead of crying – almost guaranteed.

Do Something Irresponsible

It’s inevitable after a breakup to worry about what you might have done wrong. Instead, try to take a different approach – do something else you might consider wrong. My advice? Visit the Casino at Betfair online. This is an online casino that’s nothing but a good time, offering you the full casino experience at a single website. I’m partial to sports betting and video poker myself, but live games, slot machines, etc. can also draw your attention. And after a breakup, doing something you’d ordinarily consider bold or irresponsible – like gambling a $200 hand in poker – can be oddly liberating.

Get In Shape – Quickly

There’s a temptation to overeat following a breakup. You know – lounge around watching re-runs of cheesy TV shows and stuff your face with oreos, and whatnot. If this really helps, go for it. If not, hit the gym hard, fast and often. This isn’t about distracting yourself, or “developing positive energy,” or anything worthless like that. Rather, it’s about something most of us want but won’t admit: winning. 6 months after your breakup, you want to be able to objectively look at yourself and your ex and say, “I win.” Being in the best shape of your life isn’t everything, but it counts.

Have Sex

If it feels too personal, fine – no one’s pressuring you. But don’t get caught up in feeling dirty, needy, or anything else negative. Human beings like sex, and intimacy with someone new, with no feelings attached, gets your confidence back up and helps you to gain some perspective.

Cleffairy: We’re all responsible for our own happiness. Don’t let anyone else convince you otherwise.

So, What’s for Breakfast?

It’s Sunday, lovelies. What’s for breakfast? I make a point not to miss breakfast these days, and my usual fare would be some fresh juice and toasts with fruit preserves in the morn. What’s yours?

Check out the infographic below…perhaps you could consider having what the rest of the world have for breakfast if you’re out of idea on what to eat for breakfast.

Cleffairy: Never skip breakfast. It helps to keep you energized for the rest of the day.

Cornery Popcorn Gallery

It was Friday and I’ve just picked up my son from school. And as usual, since there’s nothing to look forward to at home, I decided to go and window shop in KLFestival City, Setapak again. KLFestival City is fast becoming my second home and I practically know it like the back of my hand these days.

As I was walking around, I spotted something that I’ve never spotted before during my after-school window shopping escapades; Cornery. Debuted in Singapore back in 2008, Cornery has redefined people’s perceptions of popcorn and brought about a new trend of consuming popcorn outside of movie theatres.

 photo IMG_3272_zps20559df2.jpg

Newly opened about a month back and also the second franchise out of Singapore.

 photo IMG_3297_zpsdf56c41a.jpg

Strange name for a popcorn shop, but apparently it’s a short form for ‘Popcorn gallery’.

 photo IMG_3250_zps76db66fd.jpg

Meet Poppy, the Cornery’s mascot. :D

 photo IMG_3270_zps66cd3eae.jpg

They’re offering free popcorn tasting.

 photo IMG_3253_zpsc9f72194.jpg

And have plenty of flavours in their popcorn ‘gallery’.

 photo IMG_3257_zps652123c5.jpg

Who am I to deny free food tasting? I’ve tasted all of them, and they’re all interesting in their own way. But I have to say that I’m a little bit unadventurous when it comes to fancy-tasting popcorn taste. I particularly find the ‘Grape Soda’ flavour rather strange and not very appealing.

 photo IMG_3258_zpsead42438.jpg

Love their butterscotch, caramel and peanut flavour, though. These candied popcorns are addictive, and I definitely would not mind a few bags of em in one sitting.

 photo IMG_3310_zps1fd215b0.jpg

All popcorns in Cornery are made fresh daily. Cornery uses only United States grown premium popcorn kernels, which explains the quality.

 photo IMG_3233_zpsa8df0747.jpg

First, the popcorns are popped by using these air popper. I was told that Cornery chooses hot-air-popped corn because it is lower in calories, cleaner and healthier. :D

 photo IMG_3232_zps8bba2797.jpg

Once the popcorns were popped, they’re sieved through.

 photo IMG_3301_zpsb9bba17a.jpg

Only the properly popped popcorns are used here in Cornery. The manual stirring process is pretty tedious as you need to continuously stir the mixture with extra effort, and it takes a real man with real stamina to do it. :D

 photo IMG_3246_zps64a00346.jpg

Here’s how the popcorn looks like after it’s evenly coated with flavours.

It’s not easy to evenly coat the flavour, I must say. Here in Cornery, almost everything is hand made. Check out Cornery’s popcorn artist hard at work in ensuring that the popcorns are evenly coated before it’s certified consumable. :D

 photo IMG_3275_zps94cfabe6.jpg

Popcorns sold are sealed tight to ensure lasting freshness and if left unopened, can be kept for about two weeks. If I were to compare against the likes of Planet Popcorn, Tea Chansii and Garretts to just name a few, my standout favourites  here in Cornery would have to be the Butterscotch, Caramel and the Green Tea flavour.

In terms of size, colour and flavour, the quality is pretty consistent for separate batches of popcorns. Besides butterscotch, it comes in an extensive variety of new,  unconventional gourmet popcorn flavours.

To date, Cornery has the widest variety – over 22 flavours – ranging from original to candied as well as savoury, which includes the unique Asian flavours: Tom Yum, Curry, Wasabi, Tandoori Chicken, Kimchi and Seaweed. But they’re yet to be made available in this particular outlet. To date, they are only offering 8 candied flavours, Caramel, Black Sesame, Banana, Green Tea, Grape Soda and Peanut.

 photo IMG_3238_zps99ad6b8d.jpg

Here’s the price for your reference.

Large Pack – RM20
Regular Pack – RM10
Grab Pack – RM7

 photo IMG_3239_zpsc6fd4a76.jpg

Cornery KLFestival City is having a grand opening promo. All you need to do is just buy Rm20 worth of popcorns and you’ll get a Rm5 voucher to spend on your next visit.

 photo IMG_3241_zps2b0cbf1e.jpg

Wait! There’s more. Apart from the grand opening promo, the Cornery KLFestival City is also having a spciel promo to celebrate KLFestival City second year anniversary. First 20 shoppers from 2pm onwards is entitled to buy a bag of popcorn worth Rm7 for just Rm2, so if you around in KLFestival around that hour, do drop by and grab a pack to enjoy.

For more info on Cornery popcorns and current promotions, hop over to their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/corneryMY

Be A G.U.T Mom

Quite some time ago, Friso Gold and a group of celebrity mothers calls for Malaysian mothers to embrace and enjoy the journey of growing up together with their children. I was there to witness the meaningful event and I have to say that I’ve learned quite a few things from these successful celebrity mothers.

 photo IMG_3198_zps86b265db.jpg

In line with the launch of its’ newly improved formulated milk powder for children fully imported from Holland, premium milk powder brand Friso Gold has joined hands with a group of celebrity mothers to call for Malaysian moms to experience the growing up journey with their children.

 photo IMG_3202_zps417cc94d.jpg

Supporting the call to “Be a G.U.T. Mom”, which abbreviates ‘Growing Up Together’ are actress, TV host, entrepreneur and joyful mother to a pair of twins, Sazzy Falak; actress, model, TV host and proud mother to a 1-year-9-months-old girl, Belinda Chee; fashion designer, creative director of fashion label PU3 and mother to a 2-year old boy, Putri Azalea Ramli; TV host, film producer, director of Kakiseni and mother of four children, Low Ngai Yuen; and a group of like-minded Malaysian mothers who strongly believe in the importance of experiencing with their kids during the growing up years.

Studies have shown that a child develops best through experiences and discoveries. A mother’s role is to encourage her children by joining them to explore and discover the world together. There will be times when children may stumble and fall, but allowing them to learn while holding their hands and cheering them on is the best support a mother can provide along the way.

During the meaningful event, they also introduce its newly improved formula, developed specifically to help improve a child’s natural body resistance.

Friso Gold is specially-formulated with Frisoshield, which contains a blend of nutrients, such as GOS, Zinc, Vitamins D and B6 and Selenium that are important for a child’s natural body resistance.

Local celebrity mothers shared their experiences of growing up together with their children over a casual chit-chat session at the event. Sazzy Falak, Belinda Chee, Putri Azalea Ramli and Low Ngai Yuen enthralled guests with amusing anecdotes, accompanied with photographs of precious growing up together moments with their little ones.

As an act of support to Friso Gold’s movement, all mothers at the launch event including the celebrity moms, donned on the “Be a G.U.T. Mom” badge, pledging their commitment and support. Friso Gold ambassadors Sazzy and Belinda were more than joyful to drive the call for the movement. Moms who are interested to pledge your commitment and support to “Be a G.U.T. Mom” movement can go to Friso Gold Malaysia Facebook to download its profile badge.

For more information about Friso Gold, visit www.friso.com.my or contact the Friso Careline at 1800-88-1647 (Monday-Friday, 8.30am – 4.30am). Follow Friso Gold on Facebook at www.facebook.com/FrisoGrowingUpTogether.

Cleffairy: The journey of growing up together is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Spend more time with your children, so that the bond you share remains as strong. Together with Friso Gold, “Be a G.U.T. Mom” today and create wonderful ‘Growing Up Together’ memories that you will cherish throughout the years.

Gearing Up For NaNoWriMo with Canvio Slim II Portable External Hard Drive

It’s October now, and I have less than a month to prepare for NaNoWriMo. For those who are not familiar with NaNoWriMo, let me give you a lil bit of an intro. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It’s is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-words) novel by midnight, November 30. But every year, I have a personal goal of hitting more than 100,000 words… so yea… I’ll be quite a monster every November each year.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved. Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

This year will be my 6th year attempting NaNo. One would say that it’s a waste of time, but I beg to differ. Participating in NaNoWriMo enables me to write without having to obsess over quality. It gives me confidence, and helps me to get organized in disciplined throughout the month of November. God knows that I lacked discipline and time management is not exactly my forte.

NaNo is always about fun, a pure literary abandon, but I could still remember the horror of losing my work in the middle of the month back in 2009 as my laptop decided to die on me, and I had no backup whatsoever. Imagine my horror, more than 40,000 words goes POOF, just like that, and it’s all because I rely too much on my laptop and thought it will not fail me. The fault was all mine, but lucky for me, I’m not the sort of person who gets demotivated easily, and I decided to write from scratch all over again. It was a close call, but I won that year’s challenge regardless, and I have learned my lesson since that unfortunate incident. I have learned to back up my work to my email and various online storage websites.

But backing up my work that way can be quite a hassle, and not exactly very safe as I tend to delete my emails and online storage hosting are not always reliable, so I decided to do it differently this year. :D I decided to go all out and spring clean my laptop in preparation for NaNoWriMo 2013.

This year, I’m armed with this:

Toshiba Canvio Slim II Portable External Hard Drive (HDTD210XS3E1)

This babe can do wonders to a writer’s and novelist’s life.

Compact, sturdy and well-thought-out design. Measuring 4.2 x 3 x 0.5 inches, the Canvio Slim II is is very compact. It’s not the slimmest drive on the market, however, but it is chic and portable, so that’s enough for me. Here’s the detailed specs for it:

Toshiba Slim II Specifications

Capacity: 500GB or 1TB
Interfaces: USB 3.0 (backwards compatible with USB 2.0)
Spindle Speed: 5400 RPM
Average Seek Time: 12 ms
Cache Buffer: 8MB
Dimensions of 1TB (LxWxH): 4.21″ X 2.95″ X 0.49″
Weight of 1TB: 5.47 oz Max
Free 10GB Cloud Storage

Canvio Slim II’s casing is made of aluminum instead of plastic. A big plus point here. It looks expensive and nice. Still, the drive is light, great for those on the go. On one side, it has a Micro-USB 3.0 port, which works with any standard Micro USB 3.0 cable (there’s one included in the box).

The drive is bus-powered, meaning it draws its electricity through the USB port to which it’s connected. The external hard drive worked with all USB 3.0 ports and USB 2.0 ports without problems. It has one interesting feature which I noted, which is its status light in one corner.

This light turns on when the external drive is plugged in, turns off when it’s not in use, and and flashes to indicate data activity. The color of the light changes to white if you use it with a USB 2.0 port and to blue when it’s plugged into a USB 3.0 port. This is very helpful for those who don’t know which type of USB port they’re using.

The Canvio Slim II lets you store your files in a centralized place next to your computer, giving you easy access to your files whenever you need them. It allows you to safeguard your valuable data and is preloaded easy-to-use backup software, o Schedule automatic backup File, folder and full system backup and recovery Password-Protected encryption for your backed up files (up to 256-bit).

You know what that means? That means no one could steal your work, your pictures, and whatever you decided to store in this external hard drive.

The Toshiba Canvio Slim II Portable External Hard Drive is PC and Mac Compatible. Toshiba Canvio Slim II Portable Drives are pre-formatted NTFS for Windows 8, 7, and Windows XP. Plus, the drive comes with a NTFS driver for Mac allowing you to store and access files from the PC and Mac without reformatting. It works okay on machine that’s running on Linux too (tested on Ubuntu), though the speed is rather mediocre on machines that’s running on that particular OS. This device is a 3.0 USB device, so it runs better on new laptops and high specs machines.

Other than that, it also comes with a few other software applications, including NTI Backup Now Ez, Pogoplug PC, and HDD Password Tool. The first two are available only for Windows and the last one is available for both Windows and Mac. You can clone and restore your computer easily with NTI Backup Now EZ full system backup in case of a PC crash.

It is also mobile friendly. Yups, you’re reading that right. This babe allows you secure access to content remotely from mobile devices. More and more users are storing their files on clouds like Dropbox and Google Drive, hard drive makers are increasingly adding some sort of mobile access to their devices to make it easier for users to access their files when they don’t have the physical drive with them, and Toshiba did exactly just that.

Pogoplug software (worth USD$29.95) for PC/Mac, enable access files in your hard drive anywhere from tablet or smartphone. Do note that if you want to use this function, Internet connection is required. (Requires installation of free Pogoplug app available at Apple App Store and Google Play Store.)

With this Toshiba Canvio Slim II Portable External Hard Drive, you can access and share content from any device anywhere via the Internet and can upload and download content from any device easily.  Pretty awesome, cuz this time around, I’ll probably attempt writing from my mobile. I could definitely benefit from this function, and I bet those who loves to take loads of photos with their mobile could benefit from this too. :D

The Password HDD Tool software that guards the content of the Canvio Slim II with a password to prevent unauthorized access. And finally, NTI Backup Now Ez is an easy-to-use and effective backup software that can be set to work by itself once installed.

So ladies and gentlemen, if you’re looking for an external HDD with great performance and value for money, I think Canvio Slim II External HD is quite a safe bet. It cost only RM279 for 1TB and will be available in Malaysian market in October 2013.

Cleffairy: Love the fact that this thing will prevent unauthorized drive access. I always hated it when people snoop around my stuff at home.
