Attractions in Putrajaya: Putrajaya International Book Fair 2014

Are you a bookworm? Well, I’m most definitely a certified bookworm. Hey… I even have a blog dedicated to do just book reviews HERE :D But these days I’ve been slacking in that department a lil bit. Why? Well, it’s not that I haven’t been reading, but it’s just that I’m too lazy and not motivated to write reviews these days. Sorry publishers… sorry authors… this year I’m taking a lil bit of Sabbatical from reviewing ARC and doing Blog Tours. I’ll let you know when I’m in the mood for it, and hopefully, it will be soon.

But much as I’m not very inspired to write book reviews these days, I’m still eating books from breakfast, lunch and dinner. Okay, okay, that’s a bit exaggerating. I’m still reading books…mainly fiction in the romance genre in the form of Ebooks. These days, I lack appetite for paperbacks. Why? Gee… I don’t know. They’re heavy, not very easy to carry around while traveling and not to mention, they kinda cost a bomb these days.  But there are times where I miss the smell of books and pages being turned. It’s just that they are not very… you know…kind to my pocket when I can just easily download books on the net. Yes… I know there are plenty of book fairs around selling excess books like The Big Bad Wolf Warehouse Sale, but as an author and novelist myself, I know that authors DO NOT get any royalty from excess books. :( And I kinda do not like the idea buying books and the author gets nothing out of it. :(

Lucky for me, though…there’s this: Putrajaya International Book Fair (Bookerville).

Putrajaya International Book Fair as this is truly a first-of-its-kind book fair in Malaysia. The fair runs from 19th-23rd of March 2014.

What visitors can expect from this fair is a theme park concept exhibition with over 60,000 square feet of space. Visitors of the fair will be transported into a magical book town called the “BOOKERVILLE”. The best part of it? They’re not just excess books. That means the authors will get some royalty from the book sale. :D

The book fair is aimed to provide an enriching, educational and entertaining environment to visitors.

This book fair will feature more than 5 million worth of books offered at attractive prices in two exhibition halls. Here’s what you can expect from the Putrajaya International Book Fair- Bookerville:

Tourism KL: Adventure in 100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo with Media Friends

Are you a big fan of Doraemon? Well, I’m not sure if you are, but I’m definitely a fan. Yep…yours truly is positively a fangirl.

image

I practically grew up with Doraemon and friends. I’m still keeping a collection of Doraemon comics, in fact and I still have the tendency to buy Doraemon comics whenever I see em at a newsstand. Anyway…I was invited to a FAM trip by Tourism KL last week with my Sahabat Media and celebrity friends. Iterinary includes a short visit to 100 Doeaemon Secret Gadgets Expo that’s being held in Viva Homes Cheras until this 23rd of March 2014 and the Putrajaya Sunset Cruise. Here is the entrance to the 100 Doraemon Secret Gadget Expo.

image

And so, we begin our journey by taking the time machine with Doraemon. :)

image

And went through the dimension door.

image

After stepping over to the other side of the dimensional door, we arrived at the fictional 21st century and witnessed the birth of Doraemon in the factory. Here is my celebrity friend Iqwal Hafiz, showing me the newly manufactured Doraemon. :) He.was wondering why Doraemon was in yellow and not blue.

image

Well, there is a story behind that. Doraemon was originally in yellow, but one day, his ears was bitten by a rat while he was sleeping, resulting to him not to have any ears. He cried and cries and his tears washes off the yellow paint. And so…we ended up having the iconic blue Doraemon that we’re all familiar with and comes to love so dearly.

image

There is lotsa live size Doraemon statue in this expo. Each and every one of it are holding a secret gadget.

image

There are plenty of gadgets on display, but one that I’m familar with is this; The Memory Bread. This bread is supposed to help you memorize things easily. All you need to do is just press the bread onto whatever information that you wanna memorize and voila! You’re all good to go. This bread is often featured in the comics where Nobita consumed the bread in order to assist him in exam. :)

image

Another iconic gadget that I recognized. The Reality Phonebooth. It’s often featured in Doraemon long stories. How to use this gadget: Make a phone call by using the phonebooth and the things you say will be a reality.

image

Here’s kiddo and Iqwal getting all hyped up and playing with a mock Doraemon Air Gun.

image

We then took a walk around the neighbourhood.

image

Spotted Nobita’s mum and dad. :)

image

Sizuka’s mum

image

And Suneo’s mum too. :)

image

Feeling a tad tired, we took a rest at the playground and was transported to the future

image

When we arrived, Giant and Suneo was welcoming us for Nobita and Sizuka’s wedding. Yup…the duo ended up married after all in the future.

image

The chapel where Nobita’s and Sizuka’s wedding is being held.

image

Nobita and Sizuka, happily married. :)

image

After attending their wedding, we made a wish at the Wood Sprite Spring for eternal happiness.

image

But was transported to the shop that’s selling merchandises instead.

image

I suppose our wish was misunderstood…but well…shopping is a form of happiness and the arcade…well…I suppose I can grudgingly agree that it kinda generate some sort of happiness.

image

The games in the arcade.Tummy was already rumbling while we were in the arcade, so we got some food from the Doraemon cafe before ending our adventure in the 100 Doraemon Secret Gadget Expo in Viva Homes Cheras.

image

The iconic Dorayaki, Doraemon pancake on stick and latte.

image

One for the album before we head over for our next destination, the Putrajaya Lake Cruise. :D

image

The expo is still ongoing as of writing.

Visiting hour: 10am-10pm

Ticket price: RM25 for adult and RM15 for child.

image

And here is the map to the expo location. So…what are you waiting for? Head over there now before it’s over!

Next stop: Putrajaya Lake Cruise

Me Singing Leaving on a Jetplane for #uniteforMH370

Do you know why…that though I don’t have the tendency to love whatever our gov do…you still yet to see me condemn them for what’s going on with #mh370? And why I don’t post up parodies poking fun at the bomoh fiasco etc though I used to poke fun at various current issues in our country? Well…as much as I don’t like our gov, I still love my country. As a social media influencer, I do not wish to shame my country any further than it’s already is. I think those who posts up those crap are not only shallow, but terribly immature. Don’t you know that the world is watching us? Can’t you at least BEHAVE and be mature about it? Don’t make fun of this incident. Things are as bad as it is. There are people waiting desperately for their loved ones to come home. Even if you can’t emphatize with their situation, can’t you at least don’t be obnoxious about it? Put yourself in the shoes of MH370 passengers…and those who are waiting for their loved ones to return. I did. And it is not pleasant.

Anyway, there’s this ongoing event where people from all over Malaysia is collecting kind thoughts and prayers for MH370.

I couldn’t make it for the concert, but here’s here’s a YouTube audio of me singing ‘Leaving on A Jetplane’, for all those onboard of the missing MH370, and the loved ones who are waiting for them to return. #uniteformh370

Down the Memory Lane: The Dangers Of Foot Infection for Diabetics

image

The 3D2N Railway Tour Package trip to Perak left a huge impact on me as spending time with my foster family in a secluded kampung sends me down the memory lane, right to my childhood days when my late grandmother was still alive.

You see, I was somewhat a kampung girl when I was growing up. My father is the sort of people who emphasized on strong family ties, and so most of my childhood years were spend visiting my grandparents in kampung. We usually visited and overnight there every weekend, and most of our festive holidays were spent there too. I wasn’t really fond to go back hometown ever week, to be honest. As a child, I wanted a more ‘modern’ kind of fun. I longed to hit the mall with friends or stay at home and play computer games. In other words, I was envious of my peers of my age who gets to spend time that way instead of being stuck in a boring kampung with their grandparents.

But I’m an adult now and looking back, I appreciate my father’s effort to give me  precious and irreplaceable memory. How many people my age could honestly say that their childhood was well spent? Anyone could say they lurked in the malls during weekends, buy not many could tell you that they spent their childhood holidays and weekend with their grandparents, doing what kampung kids did…swimming and frolicking in the waterfall, go fishing with grandfather, getting all muddy and dirty in the paddy field, picnic by the paddy field and playing kites with cousins, climbing rambutan and guava trees and eat the fruits on the tree itself… Those memories are priceless and not something the kids these days could easily experience.

Yes, spending time with Mak Tok, my foster mother during my stay in Bukit Gantang Homestay triggers a lot of childhood memories, and made me miss my late grandmother dearly.

My late grandmother and I was particularly close. She dotes on her grandchildren a lot, but unfortunately for us, she passed away as soon as I went to college and started to build my own life. Is is my son’s misfortune to never be able to know his loving great-grandmother, as we lost her to a deadly illness known as diabetes. Yes. My late grandmother was a DIABETES patient, and the last few years of her life was a painful memory to revisit.

My late grandmother was diagnosed with diabetes as early as in her 30s, and she has been strictly on diet and medication since. Things were under control for a few decades, but her diabetes kinda got worst when she was in her 60s. She was admitted to hospital on and off because of it. Despite of her effort to watch her diet and taking medicines religiously, my late grandmother still suffers from high blood sugar level that leads to various health issue. She had poor blood circulation and whenever she injures or cut herself on her feet, her foot infection gets really hard to heal. Hard to heal READ: almost never gets heal. A small cut will remain bloody, filled with smelly pus and as time goes by, the infection gets worst. From a small cut, the would gets bigger and bigger and the pain became much more intolerable for her. It brought so much pain for us to see my grandmother in pain, and at some point, the doctors suggested amputation, which my grandmother was strongly against.

As time goes by, my grandmother succumbed to the deadly illness, something each and every one of us in the family regrets. There are times I wonder, if medical science was as advance back then as it is now, could my grandmother be saved and spared from all the sufferings? I thought, perhaps, if there was proper blood sugar control, it could have at least ease her suffering if not prevent her demise.

You see, my grandmother may have been departed, but my grandfather is very much alive, and though suffering from the very same disease, diabetes, he coped with the illness much better with the help of Live-well Mecomin.

He began taking Live-well Mecomin as per suggestion by his doctor and pharmacist and not only his high blood sugar level gets under control, but glycation is prevented from happening too. Live-well Mecomin is a supplement, not a miracle medicine, mind you, as it is a mere Vitamin B12 supplement but Live-well Mecomin has no doubt improved my grandfather’s quality of life as it helped to regenerate damaged peripheral nerves and prevents feet numbness that has been plaguing him for years before taking Live-well Mecomin.

My grandfather can now take a walk around the kampung with us without complaining of feet numbness due to diabetes within 5 minutes of walk. A wonderful and very welcomed improvement, if you ask me. At least now my grandfather’s high blood sugar level is much more under control and he now could feel his legs better. No more complaints about numbness and stuff and whenever he injured his legs, he could spot it early and get it treated before it gets worst. What a relief. All of us could stop worrying that he would suffer from feet amputation and whatnot the way my grandmother did before her passing.

Now, it is a fact that talking and reminiscing about the good old times or wistfully wishing that my late grandmother took Live-well Mecomin will not bring her back to life, but I do wish that this particular supplement could help those who are suffering from diabetes could benefit from it and improve their quality of life. Live-well Mecomin contains mecobalamin, the neurologically-active form of Vitamin B12 vital to the central and peripheral nervous system. Mecobalamin protects against neurological (nerve) disease and has the ability to regenerate damaged nerves in people (especially diabetics) with peripheral nerve damage. Diabetics and pre-diabetics are advised to supplement with mecobalamin as they are most prone to peripheral nerve damage. If nerve damage is left untreated for an extended period, diabetics face a higher risk of leg amputations.

image

Live-well Mecomin doesn’t produce free radicals and here’s who could benefit from it:

Diabetics
Pre-Diabetics
Those with symptoms of nerve damages such as

Loss of feeling
Numbness
Tingling
Burning sensation
Nerve pain

Those recovering from surgery, accident and multiple fractures
Those suffering from Pernicious Anaemia
Vegetarians

Live-well Mecomin helps to:

Regenerate damaged nerves
Promotes healthy nerves
Protects against degeneration process of the nervous system
Reduces nerve pain from diabetes

According to grandfather, Live-well Mecomin is available in 90 Vegetable Capsules Blister Packed (10′s X 9)  and you need to take 1 vegetable capsule (500mcg) three times daily after meals for it to works effectively. I suppose, that’s a small sacrifice to make in exchange of a better quality of life. So if you have anyone suffering from diabetes, you might want to look into this supplement and ask your doctors if you could take em so that you can benefit from it. Don’t wait til it’s too late. Prevention is always better than cure :D

Quick Quick Slow Cooking

Been feeling awfully lazy these days and not really up to cooking anything elaborate. Blame it on the awful weather. The stress. The piling workload. The hormones.Tsk. Adult world is a difficult place to live in. Too much things to handle and too much expectations.

Regardless… I still need to take care of myself. Still need to refuel every now and then even if I don’t feel like it.

So I make a point to cook something simple whenever hunger strike. Something like these, just to calm the growling tummy:

image

Piping hot rice served with cabbage sauteed with chopped garlic and soy sauce and crabstick omelet.

image

And if hunger strike again in the middle of the night while I’m writing, hotdogs, chic dimsum and crab sticks will go into the steamer and voila! My very own ‘dim sum’ meal.

This is what I usually do when I’m not really in the mood for cooking, considering that I’ve kinda banned instant noodles in my house. Instant noodles is a no no now.

So…what do you usually do when hunger strike? Do you cook something simple or just call for delivery?

For The First Time

What do you do when you feel anxious, jittery or even insecure? Well, I used to write whatever I’m not happy about, but there are times that things are too hurtful to even describe and words fail you.

Words seems to fail me a lot these days, and so I take comfort in doing new things. Things that I’m not really good at. Like baking and singing…and traveling. These activities gave me a sense of achievements.

But since I can’t be traveling all the time, so I kinda take comfort in singing and baking these days.

But problem is: I lack self confidence. A lot of things has happened in the past has trampled my self confidence as a woman and as an individual and I’m not quite sure how to fix that. Luckily for me though, I have a group of friends who are very supportive and always give me positive vibes whenever I attempt to conquer my fear. :)

Seriously speaking, I’m well known for being a disaster in the kitchen. Baking is always a no-no. But one fine day, I decided to get things right once and for all. I wanted a home bake cake that is edible…not burned and stuff and surprisingly, unlike those who are usually in my circle who tends to tease me and discourage me, these group of friends not only encouraged me, but was rooting for me too. Instead of saying that I’ll probably burn my cake and stuff, they gave me helpful baking tips and encouraged me. :) They sent me such positive vibes through Whatapps Group Chat and that got me pumped up. And the result?

image

The result was this. I was very happy with the result. The choc cake that I baked turned out lovely. :) It was perfectly done, and kiddo loves it very much that he asked if I would bake more often. Hubby brought it to work and it was polished too. :)

image

Aftee the first succeasful attempt, I decided to bake again as per my son’s request. But instead of chocolate cake, second time around was butter cake. But being one who don’t really like to play by the rules, I decided to take things up a notch abit and added M&Ms to the cake batter. And again…like my first attempt I chit chatted with my Sahabat Media friends as I waited for my cake in the oven.

image

Again, they sent me positive vibes…and look at the final product. It’s not only fluffy, but colourful. :)

So…what’s the moral of the story? Well…to me…positive people will give you positive vibes and inspire you to be a better individual, but toxic people will only bring you down, so it’s best if you cut them out from your life…and if you can’t, just distance yourselves from them. It helps to improve not only your self-esteem, but your quality of life too. Trust me on that. :)

Thank you Lia, Pojie, Qaseh,Dik Bee, Wendy and Potia for your encouragements while I was baking. It really means a lot to me

And here’s dedicating a song; ‘Terukir di Bintang by Yuna’ that I sang for fun and posted it up on Facebook but got so much encouragements.

Watch “Terukir di Bintang” on YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYnXE...

I know I sounded awful guys…but thank you regardless…especially to Mama Myn who actually invited me to duet with Iqwal during Carta Blogger 30 on eWana FM a few week back. Hahaha…maybe one day, Mama Myn. Maybe one day in the future. I’m still getting a hang on this. LOL.

Cleffairy: Don’t ever feel guilty for cutting off toxic people from your life, regardless of who they are.

Energy Booster Sunday Roast

image

March is a very packed month for me and my hubby. We rarely have any free time for ourselves these days. He’s busy with work while I’m busy with either my writing projects or traveling around.

Last Sunday was a tiring day for us and I thought some energy booster in the form of Sunday Roast would do us some good. Here’s sharing with you the ‘Roasted Chicken Thigh with Spinach Potato Salad’ recipe. I assure you, it’s packed with energy.

Ingredients:

Chicken thighs

Paprika

Pepper

Salt

Spinach

Potatoes

Method:

Marinade the chicken thigh with paprika powder, salt and pepper for 15mins. Roast in the oven at 250′c for 25mins.

Dice some potatoes and boil it for about

5mins before taking it out and sautee lightly til golden brown with spinach. Take out and serve as a side dish to the roasted chicken.

Good luck trying. :)

Cleffairy: Seriously need a break from work.
