Utara Coffee House Armada Hotel PJ Simply Japanese Promo

I was practically famished after my face spa session earlier in the day, and was really looking forward to have a chillaxing dinner in Utara Coffee House, Armada Hotel PJ with my husband and son. They’re having this ‘Simply Japanese’ promo and what perfect timing! Yours truly have been craving for some good Japanese food but did not exactly go around searching for some in my regular Japanese joints. I just can’t be bothered. Some are just too crowded and pretty mediocre in terms of taste and service, but Armada Hotel has never disappoint me so far. :D

image

So, that night, my husband and I tried 7 dishes from their Simply Japanese promo while my boy helped himself to the buffet. (kiddo is not exactly a fan of Japanese food). There was Gindara Misoyaki, Namagasaki Moriawase, Kijidon Donburi, Maguro Tempura, Seafood Maki Roll, Seirogohan Zen and Shogayaki.

image

Gindara Misoyaki (Rm28.00). Marinated cod fish with miso paste was packed with flavours.  The meat was juicy and there was no fishy smell whatsoever. I may not be a fish lover, but I wouldn’t mind second or third servings of this.

image

Namagasaki Moriawase (Rm22.00). Baked oysters with monoshi/motoyaki sauce was all right. My husband, being an oyster lover, loves this to bits. Fresh and infused with flavourful sauce, this dish is not to be missed, but I wouldn’t suggest for those with cholesterol problems to consume these. Oysters are well known to be high in cholesterol.

image

Kijidon Donburi (Rm26.00). Chicken teriyaki with rice and pickle. I never liked teriyaki chicken dishes. I find the sauce is always too sweet to my liking and the chicken are usually not sufficiently grilled, but this Kijidon Donburi is not sickeningly sweet.  It is in fact, it’s a little bit salty and absolutely divine. Instead of being grilled, the chicken was fried to crispy perfection instead before being coated with the special made teriyaki sauce. Highly recommended and quite a favourite of many that night. :D

image

Maguro Tempura (RM25.00) Deep fried tuna with basil and layer teriyaki sauce. Again, I’d like to emphasize that I don’t like to eat  fish, but seems to me that the chefs in Armada Hotel is fairly determined to make me change my mind on eating fishes. LOL. This deep fried tuna tempura is wonderful to have, and even my fish hater tastebuds agrees with this dish! There’s no fishy smell whatsoever, and one could easily mistook the slice of fish for duck meat or beef. The meat was succulent and juicy and was adeptly fried. It’s worth every penny spent, and I definitely wouldn’t mind a second or third servings of this Maguro Tempura.

image

Next up was the Seafood Maki Roll (RM24.00). The freshly made sushi rolls with seafood and unagi sauce was perfect for sharing. I love this very much and I kinda wish that my tummy have more rooms for these.

image

Seirogohan Zen (RM26.00) The Salmon served with steamed rice is something you might want to try if you’re not too adventurous. They’re not overly exotic and fill up the tummy nicely

image

Last but not least, there’s this Shogayaki (RM26.00). Being a beef lover, I fell in love with this fried beef with ginger sauce the instant I put it in my mouth. It’s served with steamed rice, so if you’re looking for something that’s packed with energy and can fill up a hungry tummy, go ahead and order this one.

Overall,Utara Coffee House Simply Japanese promo offers something that’s not only affordable, but suits my Malaysian tastebuds as well. If you’re fairly new to Japanese food, I guess this can be quite a good bet.

Something to Ponder

Being a mother to an autistic child does not always makes me feel accomplished. What is there to feel proud or accomplished about when your child terribly slacks behind when it comes to hitting milestone in comparison to other children his age?

But then again, there is a few things that makes me feel accomplished as a mother to an autistic child these days.

One of it is bringing kiddo to a blogging event where there is this skincare product demo and hands-on and the PR kindly told me that my son is surprisingly well behaved and tolerant. She could see that kiddo was rather bored while I was doing facial and yet the only time he interrupted was when he needs to go to toilet.

She said she rarely seen a boy his age patiently observe his mum doing all the girl stuff for almost an hour without whining of boredom or pester his mum for her smartphone to play games like other kids his age. She told me my boy was well behaved, and noted that my boy automatically help me carry my goodie bags. Apparently she was amazed at his helpfulness too. Later on…while we were having tea, she tried to talk to my son but naturally, he was quite unresponsive. And so I proceed to explain that kiddo is verbally challenged and he has autism.

She was shocked and told me…she could easily mistook him for an ordinary child and said, it must have been difficult for me to push him to such milestone and face the judgmental people around me. She’s right, of course. It has been a terrible roller coaster ride, but for all the wrong turns I’ve took, perhaps I did right somewhere with my boy, considering that he’s at least not terribly obnoxious, rude, disrespectful or terribly dependant on smart phones or gadgets to keep himself entertained in public when I couldn’t. That’s something, isn’t it?

God gave me a special need child perhaps because I probably wouldn’t know how to handle normal children. I’ll be honest. As time goes by, I do find that some normal children of my son’s age can be terribly difficult to handle and they can be rather disobedient at times and despite being perfectly normal, not all are respectful or tolerant towards their parents.

Cleffairy: God gave you not what you want but what you need.

Nu Skin ageLoc Face Spa Session

So, ladies, how was your mother’s day? I’m not sure how yours went, but there’s not much to tell about mine. It has been a rather hectic week, and instead of going out and hit the crowded malls and whatnot for a celebration, my family and I spent the day on the bed sleeping instead. It did not feel like mother’s day. Just another quiet weekend to R&R. So, did I mind? Nope. Not really. Kiddo gave me a mother’s day gift a few weeks earlier, and that counts for something, doesn’t it?

Although I didn’t officially celebrate mother’s day this year, I do have a Mother’s Day pampering session invitation from Nu Skin, which, I must say, was a pretty refreshing and enlightening experience. The event was held in Pullman Hotel Bangsar, where a few mummy bloggers and the members of the media were invited to experience the Nu Skin ageLoc Face Spa session.image

I was not exactly very familar with the brand. Naturally I was surprised that it has been around for quite some time, and the products are rather effective. After just a few minutes of usage, I already could see the visible fine lines around my eyes disappearing.  By targeting the ultimate sources of aging, ageLOC science can dramatically diminish the appearance of aging.

image

This device, known as the Glavanic Spa II is a massaging device that is designed to help you massage your face. Small, smart, and powerful, the ageLOC Galvanic Spa features patented self-adjusting currents and interchangeable conductors for the face, scalp, and body. Together with Nu Skin’s specially formulated treatment products, this system delivers up to five times more key anti-aging ageLOC ingredients to your skin than Galvanic Spa II.

The specially designed ageLOC Edition Galvanic Spa II complements your daily ageLOC Transformation regimen and gives YOU the power to be the anti-aging expert by targeting aging at its source. And now research shows that the ageLOC Edition Galvanic Spa II boosts visible benefits of ageLOC Future Serum by an average of 80%. (When using ageLOC Future Serum daily—the central product of ageLOC Transformation—and the ageLOC Edition Galvanic Spa II three times a week, as determined by clinical assessment after seven days of use.)

The ageLOC Galvanic Spa’s advantages:

Enhances delivery of ageLOC ingredients to your skin up to five times more than Galvanic Spa II.
Boosts the visible benefits of ageLOC Future Serum by an average of 80%.
Has a larger, brighter display, intuitive usability, and enhanced ergonomics.

Eat Ice Cream, Get Inspired and Get Rewarded!

Are you an ice cream lover? Yours truly is certainly an ice cream lover. I always hunt down ice cream whenever I’m all stressed up or when I’m having PMS. Although I don’t exactly have sweet tooth and could go without sweet stuff for a very long time, they make me feel so good!

image

I received a little surprised the other day.

image

Opening it up leaves me with this! A tub of ice cream from King’s! This is good enough to sweeten me up throughout the rest of the long day! The complimentary ice cream came from none other than F&N themselves, in conjunction of “Ice Cream Inspirations” campaign

image

King’s has introduced two new varieties — King’s 1.2L Carnival (a Neapolitan with thin stripes of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavours) and King’s 1.2L Tic-Tac-Toe (with alternating chocolate and vanilla flavours in squares). Mine was the King’s 1.2L Tic-Tac_Toe. Loved this one. It was not only creamy, but rich and generous with chocolate chips too.

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo at La Mexicana with The Entertainer

Earlier on in my previous post, I did mention that life is constantly a challenge for me and things are never ordinary. And one of the things that makes my life worthwhile is that my husband makes time to go on dinner dates with me every now and then despite of being busy with work . Let me share one of my dinner date experience. :) Not much on the date, but on the food that we had, considering that this is something pretty new to both of us.

It was 5th of May. And our Mexican counterparts were celebrating Cinco de Mayo. My husband and I decided that it would be appropriate if we’re to join in the fun by dining at La Mexicana@ Terrace Hock Choon in Jalan Ampang. And so, the night of 5th May, I dolled up and hailed a taxi to bring me to La Mexicana to meet my husband there. I nearly couldn’t make it. It was raining rather heavily, but I managed somehow in the end. :D

image

La Mexicana entrace at Terrace@Hock Choon Jalan Ampang. Words has it that the place serves authentic Mexican cuisine.image

Stepping into the premise, we were greeted with strange deco. I suppose, they are all imported from Mexico.

image

The staff were always pleasantly smiling and ready to serve you.

image

The ambiance reminds me of those long-winded Spanish telenovela, and I almost expect a few men donning huge Mexican hats coming over to serenade to us. Anyway, my husband and I was in luck that night. Apparently La Mexicana is one of The Entertainer’s merchant and there’s this buy 1 free 1 offers in The Entertainer application. Meaning, since I have that apps installed in my smartphone,  I get to have 1 appetizer, maincourse or dessert free with each mains, appetizer, or dessert that I ordered! Check out what we get to enjoy that night. :D (Note: Sorry for the low picture quality. I was too excited to meet my husband that night and completely forgotten my camera. I just used my smartphone. La Mexicana is not really photography friendly at night. The place was poorly lighted)

image

We started off our meal with Nachos La Mexicana Style. The crispy triangles of fried handmade tortillas was topped with melted cheese and beans and served with Pico de Gallo Sauce was positively addictive. Don’t be fooled by the picture, the portion was absolutely huge. It’s enough for 4 person to share. The reason why it looks so little on the plate is because yours truly have forgotten to take a photo of it before eating. :P

image

Another starter, Ceviche Verde; prawn ceviche with mango and cucumber in spicy Chile Serrano and coriander sauce on a bed of lettuce served with nachos. This was absolutely refreshing and although the portion was much smaller in comparison to the earlier Nachos La Mexicana Style, I definitely wouldn’t mind seconds of this. I prefer this one more than the Nachos La Mexicana. Much juicier and appetizing.

image

Enchilada Verdes, consists of 3 corn tortillas with succulent chicken bathed in Salsa verde and topped with cheese. This one was creamy and rich and suits my tastebuds pretty well. :D

image

And then there’s tacos, of course. We had Tacos Carmela. The tacos shells were stuffed with delicious prawns in a Chilli Chipotle sauce along with refried beans and cheese and topped with ripe avacado.

image

No meal is complete without dessert, and so we ordered the traditional  Pastel Tres Leche, the traditional Mexican milk cake that’s made from 3 kind of milk, served with walnut and topped with peach slice. Word of warning. This dessert is not for the health conscious or for the diabetic. The cake was absolutely sweet.

image

Another dessert that we tried that night was Crepas De Cajeta. They’re crepes bathe in burnt caramel milk sauce with walnut toppings. Overall, the dining experience in La Mexicana is exotic, but there’s room for improvements. I would love the place more if the food is served much faster and the waiter and waitresses are more attentive. But still, I enjoyed the night immensely. :D Earlier, I did mentioned The Entertainer apps, where I get values for my money while dining at la Mexicana, right? Well, here’s sharing some info with you about the awesome, money-saving apps.

Described as “Buy One Get One Free” incentive vouchers, The Entertainer marked its entry in Malaysia with a stellar list of over 825 offers from the city’s exclusive dining, leisure, wellness and entertainment venues. Included in this are also over 380 exclusive offers for Malaysia’s leading hotels such as Intercontinental Hotel Kuala Lumpur as well as relaxing propositions at The Slimming Sanctuary and Sothy’s.

Some key differences between The Entertainer and other group buying or discount websites out there are as spelt out below:

All offers are valid for a year – in Malaysia for the launch, they will be valid for 14 months from 1st November 2013 through 30th December 2014.
All offers are valid 7 days a week, excluding public holidays.
Vouchers can be used in multiples – each merchant provides three buy one get one free offers which can be used at the same time.
A maximum of four vouchers can be used for a party of eight.
Vouchers can be used with no advance notice (excluding hotel accommodation and spas). Booking terms that would normally apply for any of our merchants would of course be observed.

The Entertainer Malaysia One Month Membership is priced at just RM 49 and gives you access to all 400+ buy one get one free offers Malaysia’s hottest restaurants, nightspots, informal dining, spas, activities, attractions and more – for one month from the date of activation.

image

The apps is pretty easy to use and does not take much space on your smartphone.

image

As you can see, there’s plenty of merchants that you can redeem your offers from. :D Tips: Set the apps to detect ‘nearby’ merchants and the apps will generate the nearest shop/spa/restaurants that you can go and redeem your offers from.

image

But if you’re not looking for something that’s nearby your place, simply search for the restaurant that you want to dine in. In my case, I searched for La Mexicana. :D

image

The search result will give you information on the participating merchant. You can see the contact number and address on the apps too.  So when this appeared, simply check out what offers you still have in the apps…

image

Click on your preferred voucher, redeem, and enjoy your freebies with your friends, family or loved ones. :)  With 3 vouchers per merchant, you can visit more than just once or include your family and friends in the 2 for 1 fun!  After your one month membership you can simply choose to upgrade to the full product for a further MYR 186, allowing you to keep redeeming your offers until 30th December 2014.

To purchase the Entertainer Malaysia One Month Membership for just RM49 just - http://www.theentertainerasia.com/trymyfor49  or search for ‘The Entertainer’ apps in the Playstore- and be sure to enter this unique promo code @ellie_cleffairy when you purchase. To sweeten the deal, the Entertainer will be doing a random draw at the end of the month among the readers who bought the one month version of the Entertainer Malaysia app. One winner will win the full version of the app for FREE! So what are you waiting for?Get yours now and start redeeming!

Fashion Police? Or plain nuisance?

I found myself in a rather frustrating predicament a few days ago. You see, I have this pair of favourite sneakers. It’s in pink and very striking. It does not match most of my outfits but it’s very comfortable to wear. I think, I’ve worn them for almost two years now, and it’s rather worn and old but very comfortable.

Someone I used to know once told me that this pair of footwear looks very childish and cheap and makes me look like some hoochy mama. Read: teenage whore wannabe. But I am not exactly a fashionista and nobody should be my fashion police. I’ll wear what I want and whatever I’m comfortable with. To me, as long as it’s comfortable and does not violate any dress code in any event venue, nothing else matters. I’ll make my own fashion statement, thank you very much.

Besides, I’m the one who will be walking and traveling in that pair of sneakers, not them. Why should I suffer discomfort? Why should I allow others to dictate me or allow their comments to get to my head? They are simply irrelevant, considering that they are not in the fashion line themselves.

It never fails to amuse me that some people around me are constantly looking for fault in almost everything. It makes me wonder if it actually kills them to say positive things or be encouraging to others? Just because I take things with a pinch of salt and have sense of humour does not mean I like it when people criticize me on things that does not actually matter or things that is simply just wasting my time. My parents taught me not to be rude to people. Regardless of the situation and unpleasant conversation, I was taught not to snap back rudely at people in public, but I guess I need to start to be ‘rude’ to people in public when they say something that I don’t like or not happy with so that they stop thinking that I’m such a pushover and easy to be bullied and continuously do the same thing over and over again.

Cleffairy: Can no longer tolerate crap and people who don’t watch their mouth and thinks that they are above everything.

Things That Makes My Life Worthwhile

Like most wife and mother I feel that I’m not good enough every now and then. Blame it on society’s expectations. You need to be good in everything, especially when it comes to raising a child or you’ll be labeled as a bad wife, mother and parent. I used to care about what people say about me in regards of my autistic child. But these days I turn deaf ears towards these things. I know that there are things that make my life worthwhile. Small things, simple things like these;

image

A quiet tea time with my husband in my favourite cafe on weekends . :)

image

Admiring cute things in shopping mall while window shopping.

image

Getting excited over high-tech and colourful gadgets.

image

Going on dates with my husband on working days . My husband don’t always express his love for me for verbally. But there are moments where he made me feel the love that he has for me through his actions as he made effort to make time for me even though he’s busy. I don’t get ‘I love you’, cake with candles to blow on my birthday or flower as a token of appreciation from him but then again who is complaining when I can have all these? At least I know he is sincere and meant it.

image

And then there are these. My autistic child giving me present during mother’s days to unwrap. My life is not perfect but these small things really do makes my life feels complete.  Life is not always easy for me. And there are times I feel like I’ll have a breakdown. Things can get very overwhelming but what is life without challenge? I always believe that without challenges, life will be boring.

Cleffairy: I’m destined to live an extraordinary life. My life is never ‘ordinary’.

Not Relevant

‘Not relevant’. When was the first time you heard or read this phrase ‘Not relevant’? I’m not sure if your vocabs and grammar developed early and you learned about this at a very young age, but I remembered the first time I heard and read this particular phrase. It was back in 1998, the year where Malaysia hosted the Commonwealth Games, and the year where there is a huge change in Malaysian political climate. The prime minister of Malaysia then, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad ( now Tun Dr.Mahathir) has just sacked his deputy, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for being immoral and therefore not fit to govern. Datuk Seri Anwar was allegedly accused of all sort of things; one of the accusation was sodomy.

The sacking of the deputy prime minister on 2nd September 1998 shocked the entire nation. No such thing has ever happened in the history of Malaysian politic. That was the start of a shakeable political era. The ruling political party was split into two fractions; one that takes the Prime Minister’s side, while another the  ‘ill-fated’ and ‘wrongly accused’ ‘Deputy Prime Minister’. Those who decided to believe that the Prime Minister of Malaysia was just getting rid of his deputy because he fear that the deputy will push him down from the helm then joined hands with the sacked deputy to call for a political reformation, which in my opinion, last til today. The opposition parties who has always been rather quiet on the other hand, became aggressive and vocal from that point forward.

The phrase ‘not relevant’ was often heard then. It is used very often in court hearings for Datuk Seri Anwar, and the phrase is plastered all over the mainstream news. Not relevant means no longer suitable…not related with subject/situation at hand. Now, I’m not delving into politic, as tempted as I am to do so. All I want to talk about is the word ‘not relevant’. A lot of people told me that I’ve change. They don’t really know me anymore. In some ways, I’m more ‘quiet’ now, and I carefully choose the circle that I want to mingle with.

Some people might say I’ve turned cocky and stuck up. A diva, in other words. Seriously speaking, what people think of me is none of my business. It is theirs and theirs alone. I couldn’t care, really. And although I couldn’t give a hoot about it, I must clarify that I live my life as I see right for me. None of you know how it is like to walk in my shoes.

I have reason to no longer associate with people whom I have made acquaintance with in the past. Some people…they are just uninspiring, and they don’t serve to motivate me or help me grow positively. They are no longer relevant in my life, and I find it hard to relate to them and therefore I refuse make room for them in my life anymore. Sounds shallow? Maybe. But hypocrisy is beneath me and I just want a less complicated life. Life is already complicated enough, why bother make it harder by associating yourselves with people who makes its a mission to make your life difficult?

Cleffairy: Just walk away from people who no longer inspire or motivate you. Life is too short to be miserable. Happiness is a choice. I choose to be happy and I will not settle for less.

The Things You’ll Never Know

I have always wonder how it’s like to have a daughter. But I guess, I’ll never find out, because I’m not blessed with one. At least, not one that lives. I have always imagined myself as a mother to a little girl, an little carbon copy of myself when I was younger…

A happy, active and playful child who have her little fingers wrapped around everyone in the family. A precious little princess whom you can deny nothing and a confidant whenever I need a listening ear….daddy’s little princess and mummy’s best girlfriend. I have been a privileged daughter. My family loves me unconditionally and naturally…I would want to give birth to a daughter whom will be loved equally the same way if not more.

But I guess…God knows better and have better plans for me. There are things I’ll never know, and not meant to find out. Perhaps…I’m not meant to be a mother to a daddy’s little girl. Perhaps…God knows much better than me and have better plans, and so He gave me a son instead…a son whom will always take my side and be my protector even if the world turn against me.

Cleffairy: Saying goodbye can be really hard when nobody actually acknowledges the separation.
