I "read" some or most of this book a few years ago on audio, but I really can't remember details from audio only, so I bought the book on Kindle. But then I apparently never opened it. Argh. I thought I had notes somewhere on what percentages to alloc ...more |

This was an intense book. The author really brought the characters to life. That’s not exactly to say I enjoyed it. It’s a sad story, and all of the characters were jerks to one degree or another. Well written though.

This book is a quick read. She wastes no time and boils it down to the essence. I like that. I also like that she repeatedly recommends starting with baby steps. I’ve been in so many programs and read so many books where we were supposed to write down ...more |

I read the second book of this series first, so many of these characters are familiar. Nothing about it really grabbed me, but it’s an ok book.

I think I’ve read enough Jason Fung books now. This book has a different twist in that it’s co-written with a patient (Eve) and a lady who started as a patient and became co-founder of his clinic/company (Megan). I enjoyed these different perspective ...more

I found this book in the Little Free Library up the hill from me. It’s much better than most of the books I’ve read lately. I’ll be looking up more from this author. One thing that was surreal about this book: it’s told from the perspective that the ...more |

The premise of this book was intriguing but none of the characters really felt like people to me. I was mildly glad it all worked out, but mostly I just didn’t care that much.
“One of the fastest ways to be genuinely happier is to develop a gratitude habit. Each night before going to sleep, list five things you’re grateful for that day. If you’re feeling really low and things are going terribly, sometimes it can be hard to think of five things, but do it anyway. At first it may even be that you’re most grateful for things that didn’t happen to make things worse; that’s all right, too. Just keep at it until you have at least five things.”

“Our eyes and ears can deceive us, our hearts don’t always have the best judgment, and our hormones can lead us astray. But our thoughts are sacred! We have to listen them because they’re the rational part.”

“There is a preppy wabi-sabi to soft, faded khakis and cotton shirts, but it's not nice to be surrounded by things that are worn out or stained or used up.”
