Rebecca Rowland grew up in Western Massachusetts but spent her early adult life in the Boston area, and most of her fiction is set in those locations. She is the author of two fiction collections, one novel, and a handful of novellas, one of which, OPTIC NERVE, earned her a Godless 666 Award. Her speculative fiction and essays regularly appear in a variety of publications by progressive, independent presses. She sometimes reviews short fiction collections and anthologies for the website Ginger Nuts of Horror.

A member of the Horror Writers Association as well as the Whip City Wordsmiths, Rebecca is the curator of eight collections. Her anthology UNBURIED: A COLLECTION OF QUEER DARK FICTION became an Amazon best-seller on its first day of rel

Sometimes, my stories come from the smallest of details. For instance, "Open House" sprang from a television commercial advertising enrollment at the Catholic elementary school near my house. "The Munchies" was inspired by a close friend of mine who has small children. He used to begin almost all of our conversations with "Don't ever have children" before recounting a trying incident with one or both of his kids; he loves them more than anything in the world, so the comment became more of a comedic mantra, but I couldn't help but wonder, what if it wasn't the raising of the children that was so frustrating but the pregnancy itself? and the creepy side effect the couple experiences in the story was born.(less)

Snagged this from Ghoulish Books at Killer Con last month because I love Schraeder’s work, and this did not disappoint. Schraeder delivers her deliciously sardonic tone on every page, and I could not put this book down.

“However, all writing, all writers who wish to be
published, it, they are the same at the core. All of them want to be read, remembered, cherished.”
Rebecca Rowland, Shagging the Boss

“Human bodies wear down," he continued . "They give out. No one is immortal, not without help. All writers wish to live forever, don't they? Even if they won't admit it. They vomit up these sacred parts of themselves, wrap those shards in paper, and pray the remnants will exist long after they are decomposing in the grave.”
Rebecca Rowland, Shagging the Boss

Topics Mentioning This Author

“If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”
