Description:
Some secrets follow you to the grave. Others send you there.
Emily Riddle has lived her entire nineteen years inside a patriarchal commune led by her father and her stepbrothers. There are more rules than she cares to admit, but the most important one, keep it in the commune, is the one most difficult for her to abide by… especially since the only people willing to champion her cause live on the outside.
When Emily learns her father and brothers have promised her to Lorenzo, a man she despises down to her core, she rebels. No matter the consequences, she refuses to marry someone who'd rather beat her than caress her.
A day of hooky that starts out as a tiny act of defiance—sneaking out of the commune for a swim—soon turns into the best day of her life. After spending time with Levi, a man camping near the lake, she finds what true romance looks like and catches a glimpse into a future that's filled with love and admiration rather than hate and submission.
That tiny peek is enough to change the course of Emily's existence and makes it nearly impossible for her to go back to the commune and pretend she will ever be able to tolerate a life chosen for her rather than the life she longs for. One that includes Levi.
Fighting to escape the commune, its leaders, and her fiancé proves to be more dangerous than Emily ever expected. The secrets she knows, as the commune leader's daughter, will either follow her to her grave or send her, and Levi, there.

“Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”

“Forgive me, Lord, if ever I should wrap myself
in pharisiac robes when I see another fall
In no way am I greater
because of another’s weakness.
At the most it only turns the eyes
of the crowd away from my own frailty.
Few of us would ever think of hurting someone
physically
but too many times we have used the power
of "talk" to kill.
Here, Lord, take these stones I hold.”

Amber,
Just be warned...it only gets more exciting and harder to put down the further along in it you get. ☺
I'm really am glad to hear you're liking it. As one of the original supporters of Warriors of the Cross, your opinion is very important to me.

Thanx u!!! :)

Lost forever was the wide-eyed innocence I’d embraced with a vengeance the first twenty-four years of my life. In its place sat a gaping hole of sorrow, the direct result of a lost life, a stolen childhood, and a kidnapped soul.

Julia strolled along the beach with James, enjoying the beautiful orange and yellow shades of the sunset. The way the scene mirrored off the ocean's blue glass horizon made for a spectacular sight. The serenity of the setting - along with the calming, salt-infused breeze - camouflaged the danger speeding toward her and her unborn baby faster than a just fired bullet.

I'm working hard, and - I think - it's progressing nicely. Thanks for checking!
