Historical Fiction Adventure Drama

Historical Fiction Adventure DramaOldEarth Neb Encounter ExcerptBe Prepared

In this Historical Fiction Adventure Drama, Enosh sees the possibility of victory, but his sister knows that heroism comes from within, as does true evil.

Enosh returned to camp several months later, flushed with victory. The sun shone, and his heart swelled in pride when he saw Eva outside. He ran to his dwelling, grabbed his little sister by the waist, and swung her in a circle, shouting in unleashed exuberance. “I beat Kryce today! I outmaneuvered him, and he’s the one going home with a sting to mend!”

Eva met the beaming face of her brother and grinned. “I’m happy for you, brother, though” —her smile faded— “it will take more than a sting to stop Neb.”

His joy draining away like water through a net, Enosh felt a sneer worm its way through his body. “Neb! The way you talk, one would think he’s a god who can’t be beaten. He’s a man. Looks like a man, bleeds like a man, and can be stopped like any other man. Kryce is an excellent warrior—one of the best—and when I struck him today, I proved that I’m stronger and better than I’ve ever been before. Can’t you be glad? Can I never prove myself even to you?”

Eva dropped her gaze but quickly turned at the sound of pounding feet.

Kenan raced toward them and came to a halt, practically colliding with Enosh.

Several men sat outside a storage hut, attending to their weapons. They looked up, their eyebrows rising.

“Enosh! Uzal wants you. You remember Hul? He served father faithfully but then decided to stay with Neb. He and Accad and his brother Jubal from the People of Seth have come, and they spent the morning speaking with Uzal. No one looks happy. Hurry!” Kenan turned and sped up the steep incline toward Uzal’s home.

Holding back, Enosh nodded. His staunchest warrior, Thubal, could make or break his leadership position. “Tell Thubal where we’ve gone and that I want him to join us. He has as much of a right as anyone.” With this, Enosh nodded to his sister and started after his brother.

~~~
Uzal ignored the press of too many bodies in the confined space, stifling the air in his dwelling.
Dark clouds swept across the sky, promising rain.
Uzal nodded at Kenan, but when his older brother, Enosh, arrived, he gestured for Hul to step forward.
A slight gasp escaped from both Enosh and Kenan.
Hul’s once robust figure had shrunk to a shadow of its former self. His skin hung in baggy looseness, and he peered through grief-stricken eyes.
Uzal opened his hands, bidding everyone to sit. “I believe you know each other. This man was brought into my presence by these two.” Uzal gestured to Accad and Jubal, who sat side-by-side and as still as stone carvings. “Serious tidings indeed. I’ll let Hul repeat his story, so that you can judge for yourselves.” Uzal nodded to Hul.
Hul lifted his head, though his back remained hunched. His words, vibrating with painful intensity, rose slowly. “Enosh, you must not blame me too severely for my lack of loyalty toward Hezeki. If ever you are able to rejoin our people, please be merciful to my family, for they, like me, thought it best to follow the young, healthy leader rather than cling to the old and lame.”
Enosh winced. “Your family has nothing to fear from me.”
With a meek nod, Hul went on to tell the story of what happened in the Village of Seth after they left, including how both Ashkenazi and Hezeki were murdered and how he was left for dead. He described his torturous trek back to the Village of Seth and how the people there nursed him, despite his history with Neb.
After he healed, Accad, Jubal, and Hul found Neb’s trail and followed him back home. They stayed hidden and learned that Neb had turned to marauding and enslaving other clans.
“Neb attacked clans, showing no mercy. He follows a strange god and has powers no man should have. Clans far and wide are terrified of his approach. Some even offered to pay him tribute if he would promise not to attack. Neb killed the messengers but kept the gifts.” Hul shuddered. “I didn’t see him for what he was until too late. My family still lives, but I can do nothing for them. My only hope rests with Meshullemeth, that she might oppose her son, but—”
Enosh sucked in his breath. “She never will.”
Kenan leaned, glaring at Hul. “Where is Neb now?”
Accad shifted and met Kenan’s furious gaze. “He’s heading this way. He knows you’re settled here, and he has heard enough of the People of Havilah to come well-prepared. He comes to steal and destroy, but most of all, to kill what remains of his family. He will not let you live to challenge him.”
Leaping to his feet, Enosh paced to the open doorway. “Challenge for what? Brutal leadership? I know the men who follow him—Puti and Riphath, Torgama and Kittam—they have no honor, no decency. They follow Neb for their own gain. If Neb were to weaken, they would leave him too. I would never lead such a people!”
A girl’s voice rose. Eva emerged from a dark corner. “They are not all evil. Many have helped strangers or assisted those in need. They were not beasts, though beasts they may have become under the influence of our all-too-evil-brother.”
Kenan spat his words. “Neb didn’t work alone. Remember, Mother encouraged him.”
Uzal stood and gestured for everyone to follow him outside. Once in the open air, he called his warriors to assemble.
Arriving after a successful hunt, a fat stag slung over his shoulders, Thubal hustled forward.
“My people!” Uzal raised his voice, catching every villager’s attention.
Men, women, even children halted and stared at Uzal. “A warrior clan comes to enslave our women and children. Prepare yourselves. There will be no second chance if you fail. Set guards and send out scouts. Gather your weapons; sharpen your tools. I want every blade at my service. We will meet Neb and teach him to bow before us as he wishes us to bow before him. Prepare well!”
Accad, Jubal, and Hul stood to the side, frowns etching their brows.
Uzal strode to them and lowered his voice. “This is not your fight. You have done well in warning us, but” —he took a long appraising look at Hul— “this man has seen enough horror. Take him home and assure Seth that we will stop this menace here. Neb, eldest son of Hezeki, will go no further.”
Accad and Jubal glanced at each other and then back at Uzal. Accad spoke for them both. “We thank you for your kind intentions, but this is our battle as well as yours. Neb came into our village and deceived us, murdered a friend of ours, an innocent man. We must regain our honor. Seth has promised to send men as soon as the time and place of battle is known. My brother and I will take Hul back to our village, but we will return with warriors to destroy Neb and all who follow him.”
Uzal rubbed his chin, considering the men before him. “I’m not averse to capable warriors, but I’ve heard about your clan, and they’re not known for their fighting skills. Still, you may come with trained warriors. Fools only get in the way. I’ll not risk my people’s lives to spare feelings when battle comes.”
Accad nodded. “We’ll return with the best we have to offer.”
Uzal watched Accad and Jubal pace away with Hul’s emaciated figure hustling just behind. He shook his head and then refocused his attention. His men needed him now.
~~~

Tamar, Uzal’s adult daughter, stood by Eva and gently rested her hand on the girl’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, Eva. Our men know how to fight. You’re safe here.”

Eva lifted her gaze to the square-jawed, dark-haired woman and muttered, “If only they were fighting mere men.”

Tamar jerked her hand back. “Why, for goodness sake, who else are we fighting?”

“You shall see.” Eva peered into the crimson horizon. “Something invisible creeps into a man, and he becomes the creature of an unseen power.”

Tamar’s voice rose, incredulous. “Can no man fight with honor then?”

“Not for long. When the passion takes him, reason flees and bloodlust rushes in.”

Tamar bent down, peering into the young girl’s face. “You’re younger than my little sister Sari, and she has lived in a warrior clan all her life. How do you know such things when I am certain she does not?”

“I know Neb, and one man can teach a girl terrible things.”

The first drops of rain splattered onto the ground.

Tamar watched the forlorn figure walk away, blending into the village throng, and fear shivered down her spine.

What Is Love?

What Is Love?The Beauty of Love in Frailey’s Last of Her Kind

What Is Love? Love transcends space and time, witnessing inner peace and hope that, even in times of turmoil, people can experience with each other.

What is love?

Everyone has their own definition of love. For some, love is walking in a park, holding hands, and basking in the gifts of nature. For others, love is giving roses to their dearest. Or maybe, just maybe, love is someone watching over you from a place that is not seen or heard. A place that transcends our understanding. Someone separated by a barrier, perhaps socially and physically.

Such is the fate of Cerulean, a Luxonian or what you would call an extraterrestrial in A. K. Frailey’s book, Last of Her Kind.

Today, let’s take a trip to the stars, embracing the beauty of love in The Last of Her Kind.

Love Doesn’t Come Easy

In the prelude to Frailey’s Newearth series, an epidemic looms large. Humans have grown infertile and are nearing extinction. Moreover, they are seen as nothing more than mere throwaway tools by Luxonians.

Like Keanu Reeves once said, “If you don’t fight for your love, what kind of love do you have?”

Love is often perceived as something easy, something that just happens. It is shown as perfect through romanticized pieces of fiction. What A. K. Frailey executes so well is depicting the tragedy, the plight of a love that cannot be embraced.

Moreover, distance isn’t the only factor that comes into play in love’s duality. The Luxonians’ love for humanity sets him up for conflict with his own people. They judge him for seeing humans with compassion and admiration, yet Cerulean is not deterred. He can’t help but admire Anne for her courage in forging ahead through terrible times.

An Alien’s Love for Humanity

But where this love story truly shines is the ironic devotion toward humanity.

The story takes place in a time when humanity was unkind to itself and was looked down upon by the Luxonians, too. This applies to us today more than ever, where we’re subject to global warming due to pollution, political unrest, war, and infertility on a massive scale. We are slowly heading down the same trajectory, the same route as the Earth depicted in Frailey’s book.

With that being said, Cerulean, despite being from an entirely different home world, still sees beauty in humans; Anne being his main concern.

It is a message that resonates with readers, raising awareness of how we are treating Earth. Cerulean can be perceived as a metaphor, a third-person’s perspective on how we are treating our planet and how unkind we are being to it and each other. Despite being an alien, he sees the human race as not so different from his own people. Everyone has free will and suffers from poor choices.

Love, indeed, comes in many forms. It isn’t just showing affection and compassion toward your friends and family. Love moves beyond the boundaries of our family home.

If only we could see humanity as Cerulean does and love each other as selflessly, the world would be a better place.

Transcending Space and Time

Love knows no limits. It transcends space and time. Cerulean and Anne witness the sacrificial aspects of real love. They exemplify the inner peace and hope that, even in times of turmoil, people can experience with each other.

What will become of our very human Luxonian? Will he be able to confess his love to Anne? Only one way to find out! Grab your copy of A.K. Frailey’s Last of Her Kind, now available on Amazon.

New Sci-Fi Book

New Sci-Fi BookNewearth Progeny

Consider a New Sci-Fi Book in a world where truth and fiction are intermingled; it often takes good fiction to discover honest truth.

Shakespeare wrote 37 plays, Mark Twain wrote 28 books, Agatha Christie wrote 66 detective books, Jane Austen 6 novels, Charles Dickens 15 novels, Steven King 65 novels/novellas, J. K. Rowling 24 books, Tolkien 45 books… and the list goes on.

Though there were a few one-hit wonders: Anna Sewell  Black Beauty, Emily Brontë – Wuthering Heights, Boris Pasternak – Doctor Zhivago, Margaret Mitchell – Gone with the Wind, Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird, and, by all accounts, should have stopped there.

So, when I completed my 18th book this month, I didn’t consider myself in the big leagues. Many authors have written far more, far better, and been more well-received. But none-the-less, I consider my latest novel, Newearth Progeny, to be a notable accomplishment. At least in my own mind.

It was a book I needed to write. The story insisted on seeing the light of day. Though, as of this moment in time, I have not decided exactly what to do with the finished work, I am glad that it is written, safely on the page.

In a world where truth and fiction are intermingled, and at times, it appears that it takes good fiction to discover honest truth, I find myself brought to fuller awareness through amazingly well-told tales.

On television, I finished watching Breaking Bad this spring, which nearly broke my heart. This summer, Better Call Saul witnessed a level of humanity’s inner demons that I really didn’t want to face.

For the first time in years, I went to the movies. I watched The Sound of Freedom when it came out in early July and became both mesmerized and horrified by the reality it depicted. Not a safe movie if I wanted to bury my mind in the soft folds of personal comfort. Another movie, Oppenheimer, opened a window into the past while warning of dangers ahead, which humanity rarely seems to comprehend until much too late.

I’ve also been reading a variety of books—the original Grimm fairy tales, Sanderson’s Mistborn series, Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, Frank Herbert’s Dune, and a variety of poetry. Amazing how imaginative worlds can grow from well-selected words.

Quiet prayer time, the grandeur of fluttering trees, sumptuous flowers, dynamic birds, and insanely rambunctious insect life has kept my soul busy, contemplating the interconnectedness of life, where hard facts and mysterious mysticism meet.

While writing Newearth Progeny, I kept expanding the outline to fit the growing story. But as it progressed, I realized that what was developing was not the story I originally intended. I had thought that I was simply writing a woman’s story—something intimate about motherhood. Considering the focus: a biomb used instead of a natural womb, the drama appeared to center on the natural connection between a mother and her child.

But as each character had to deal with his or her own inner disconnectedness, the story took on new dimensions. Society today, as society in every age, must come to terms with who we are as individuals as well as a race of beings, or we run ourselves ragged in the effort to outrace our true identity: hybrid human/divine.

So now, I am left with the end of book eighteen and the outline of book nineteen. The fruit of our actions, like our progeny, must come to fullness in its own time. And age-old questions get asked once again throughout the centuries in various story forms.

Angels and demons have their part to play in our psychological and emotional dramas. What does humanity have to say for itself? We can act angelic or demonic. Frequently we manage both. Sometimes on the same day.

A story offers us a glimpse of ourselves and asks—Is this who I am?

The answer is never complete.

When a new generation steps up as we head off stage, we pray that free will is still in play, and there will always be another, perhaps a better, book to write.

Humanity and Artificial Intelligence

Humanity and the Discovery of AI

Humanity and Artificial Intelligence have a future together. But will it be productive? We are now confronted with moral conundrums like never before.

In the vast tapestry of human history, few moments have held as much importance as the discovery of artificial intelligence. The persistent pursuit of comprehending the nature of intelligence and the invention of machines that imitate human behavior has driven us into a new era of transformation.

As we stand at the abyss of this technological advancement, it has become inevitable for us to reflect upon the implications it holds for the future of humanity. Will AI become more powerful than humans? Would it become a direct threat to our existence as a society… Only time will tell.

Let’s consider how Artificial Intelligence might affect humanity’s future.

1.   The Nature of Intelligence

Since the beginning of time, humans have marveled at the intricacies of our intelligence. It is the one characteristic that sets the entire human race apart from other species. It’s our ability to calculate and perceive unique notions that have enabled us to create a distinguished world around us. Yet, the discovery of artificial intelligence challenges our comprehension of what intelligence truly means. As we move to an era where our lives are dominated by our own creations making autonomous decisions, we are confronted with moral and social conundrums that we have never considered before.

2.   Ethical Considerations

The advent of artificial intelligence has left humans with questions that have not been asked before, pushing us into a dilemma. How do we ensure that AI-based decisions align with our values and point of view? Can AI exhibit empathy and grasp the nuances that follow human emotions and psychology? Can artificial intelligence be trusted with autonomous decisions, and if yes, then to what extent? These questions require careful consideration as we navigate the delicate interaction of ethics and technological advancements.

3.   Embracing Uncertainties

The rapid development of artificial intelligence and its inevitable consequences on society has raised concerns about what might follow. Will AI surpass human intelligence? What implications would it have on the job market, and how would that reality affect human emotions? How can we guarantee that artificial intelligence will only be used for the welfare of humanity?

While nobody can predict the future with certainty, we can approach it with a broader perspective and a pledge to adaptability. We can prepare ourselves for the future with a sense of learning and constant evolution.

4.   Preserving Human Connections

Artificial intelligence is a reality that has influenced us in countless ways. But it’s crucial to remain vigilant about preserving the genuine connection between humans. We live in a world where interactions are becoming mediated by screens and algorithms, and the value of authentic human relationships must not be overshadowed.

Yes, it’s true that AI’s vast implications might drastically impact human relationships. With our minds influenced by screens, artificial intelligence can easily influence our emotions and decision-making powers.

But have we ever considered AI’s impact on our romantic relationships? Is there a possibility for AI to have emotions, and could it armor itself with something we call feelings? This is a possibility to consider.

Of course, at the time when this blog is being written, robots powered by AI are not capable of experiencing love. They lack the essence of emotion and building connections like humans.

Robots interact based on their algorithms and the commands fed by humans. But for Justine, it’s not the case. Justine is a fictional character in NEWEARTH: Justine Awakens, a human-android who was found guilty of her previous crimes and was brought to justice. But Taug, an alien from the planet Crestar, awakened Justine Santana so he could destroy Derik, a human-Cresta hybrid and an embarrassment to his own race. But who would’ve known that Justine could feel sympathy and enduring love for someone she is supposed to kill?

This spectacular novel by A. K. Frailey portrays the possibility of Justine discovering the meaning of love and her intrinsic humanity. Can the best in our humanity even transform a hybrid android? If there is any hope for the human race, it lies in our ability to see beyond flaws and discover a new world of hope inside all of us.

Make a Positive Difference

Make a Positive DifferenceHow a Person Can Make a Difference Even in Their Darkest Hours

Make a Positive Difference in the World. It is a creed as well as a hope. Only in trusting the best in others to rise to the surface can real hope thrive.

In the depths of chaos and despair, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and believe that your efforts are insignificant against the many challenges surrounding you. There have, indeed, been times when darkness has shrouded our spirits. Whether it’s the despair of oppression or the dark clouds of some battle or the other, these times put the essence of humanity to the test.

However, even during the darkest nights, some people emerge as beacons of light, making us believe that one person can make all the difference.

Let us delve into the human spirit and explore the positive difference each of us can make even when all the odds are stacked against us.

1.   Embracing Empathy

The first step toward making a difference is to embed the power of empathy in oneself. Compassion allows people to put themselves in other people’s shoes and comprehend the magnitude of their challenges. Even the smallest act of kindness can spark a light in the lives of those suffering. Empathy becomes essential when a person holds the power to make a difference. It becomes a responsibility to come forward and inspire the uninspired.

Many stories have inspired humans since their inception. A new story is A. K. Frailey’s Newearth: A Hero’s Crime. In it, the characters exemplify real love by putting the need of others before themselves, while Cerulean acts like a true hero who goes out of his way to protect his people. Only with the power of empathy can we make such decisions.

2.   Thinking Beyond Yourself

Making a difference in the real world requires one to think beyond individuality. It requires a person to let go of their inner selfishness and do what is necessary. It becomes all the more important when a person is in a position of power – for “with great power comes great responsibility.”

One of the most inspiring examples of thinking beyond yourself can be found in A. K. Frailey’s Newearth: A Hero’s Crime, where the mighty Cerulean, known as the hero who helped in saving humanity, allows others to save the world while he struggles to manage a debilitating illness.

3.   Inspiring Through Resilience

Resilience can fuel one’s spirit to bring change at large. With determination, one can move ahead and make decisions that illuminate other people’s lives. In Cerulean’s case, he must trust others to protect humanity. Only in trusting the best in others to rise to the surface can real hope thrive.

4.   Leading by Example

One person’s actions can have a profound impact on others. The magnitude of actions isn’t of primary importance. All that matters is the dedication and commitment put into the process. By embodying the change one wishes to see, one can create a ripple effect that transforms lives all around.

Undoubtedly, even in the darkest times, the true strength to foster change resides in each of us. All we need is to look at life through a new lens. During challenging times, the world needs compassion, selflessness, and faith. It’s the only way we can work together as a positive force and transform our future.

So, let’s aim to put others first in a world where chaos and destruction have found a home. Order your copy of Newearth: A Hero’s Crime today, and learn how you can become a beacon of hope like Cerulean.

Humanity’s Survival

Humanity’s SurvivalWhat If a Planet Eating Monster Becomes a Threat to the World?

Humanity’s Survival depends not on a superhero but on the human race’s ability to put aside personal differences and work together for the greater good.

The human race has seen countless catastrophes that have shaken the core of humankind’s existence. We have endured pains beyond measure, from the harrowing horrors of World Wars to the recent pandemic. Yet, people have managed to leave behind their sorrows and reinvent their lives according to new circumstances.

But what if the threat that awaits us is something beyond our comprehension? What if there’s a monster waiting to devour the entire planet? That thought alone is enough to send shivers down our spines. This notion might sound like a scene from a science fiction novel, but it isn’t entirely impossible.

Our universe is vast and hides all sorts of horrors and wonders. While there might not be any signs of a planet-eating monster yet, who’s to say such a creature doesn’t exist? After all, we have only managed to explore a small fraction of what lies in the treasures of our universe.

But what if such a creature exists? The possibilities are endless. The best way to deal with any horror is to face the situation head-on. What would we do?

1.   Gathering the Information

The first step toward prevention would be to understand the magnitude of the threat. It would be crucial to discover the size of the monster and how much time we have to prevent the inevitable from occurring. We would also have to bring all concerned authorities into action to deploy a counterattack that would work as our way to protect ourselves.

2.   The Need for Unity

Unity plays a key role when an unprecedented threat challenges our survival. Working together is the only way to face a planetary threat. Everyone from around the globe would have to serve together to defeat any deadly monster. There would be no time left to fight our internal battles as what awaits us would threaten our very existence. People from all ages, walks of life, and ethnicities would need to work together to defeat the destructive monster.

3.   The Threat of Extinction

One thing that has been the cause of many wars is a prominent fear that runs through our veins. The fear of losing everything, even our identity and existence. As devastation approaches approached our planet, extinction may become a possible reality. We, as humans, would need to find ways to protect ourselves against this existential threat. Maybe we could look for another planet to be our home? Or perhaps, it would be too late to migrate. The best in the human race would have to rise over bitter decisions if humanity would have any hope of survival.

4.   Do We Need Heroes?

Do we need heroes to protect our planet? It’s a question that has been in our minds for a long time. Fictional stories have painted a possibility that a hero can save us from destruction. One such story is A. K. Frailey’s A Hero’s Crime, which deals with a similar threat and questions Earth’s future existence.

But A Hero’s Crime has a hero. He is a legendary hero who has always pushed his boundaries to help human civilization survive against all odds. But this recent threat is something that he has never come across. Will he prevail? Or would he need help to keep danger at bay?

Newearth: A Hero’s Crime is a must-read for people who enjoy stories about the fight for survival and a new human future involving not just humanity but our relationship with the larger universe. So, what are you waiting for? Grab this post-apocalyptic saga today and embark on a fantastic journey crafted by A. K. Frailey.

The Future of Love

The Future of LoveThe Power of Love – Can a Human-Android Be Capable of Love?

The Future of Love extends not only through our human timeline but into an unknown world of possibilities. Might a human android experience real love?

Love has been a fascinating topic for humans since the beginning of our existence. The first person born on Earth would have experienced love somehow. It is an emotion that can be described differently, and at times it is impossible to shape into words, yet its essence remains the same. It involves feelings of strong attachment, admiration, and care for another individual or a thing. In fact, love draws forth the best inside ourselves and calls forth the best in others.

The rapid and swift growth of technology raises the question of whether an android, a robot itself, can experience love.

According to recent studies, and counterintuitively, people who use emails, messenger, or phones to carry out casual conversations feel a stronger bond than those who choose in-person conversations. Lack of pressure makes it easier to relax, suggesting the possibility that a human might experience a sentimental feeling often equated to love. What are your thoughts on that?

This blog will explore the power of love and whether it is possible for a human-android relationship to experience love.

Defining the Concept of Love

Love is a complex emotion that is difficult to define. Many psychologists and philosophers have tried to explain it for centuries. For some people, there is no clear definition. Yet a definition does exist. The great Catholic theologian and philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas defined love as “the choice to will the good of the other.”

Love bonds individuals through mutual respect, trust, and understanding. But is it just between individuals?

The Power of Love

The power of love shouldn’t be underestimated, as it has the ability to change people’s lives and offers a foundation of joy and happiness. Love is what provides strength to overcome obstacles and face challenges. The power of love is so compelling that it can heal wounds and mend broken hearts. No matter how bad your day can get, coming home to people you love can help you forget negative moments and events.

Love is known to positively affect people’s cognitive and physical well-being. It assists in reducing stress and anxiety, keeping a positive mood, lowering blood pressure, and sleeping with peace and comfort.

NEWEARTH: Justine Awakens by A. K. Frailey

Might humanity create a human android that could experience real love? An android embedded with a human core would be a significant advancement in technological development. Machines are now created and designed in a way that they act, think, look, and behave like humans. They can imitate feelings of happiness, anger, and sadness, but could a human being actually be embedded in android technology? And if so, would be able to experience love?

Of course, at the moment, androids are not capable of experiencing love in the same way as humans. They cannot feel emotions and make personal connections. Their interactions are based on programmed responses and algorithms. But this isn’t the case with Justine. Justine Santana is a human-android, a fictional character in NEWEARTH: Justine Awakens, who was found guilty of war crimes and shut down. But Taug, an alien from the planet Crestar, wanted to destroy Derik, another human hybrid, and awakened Justine to accomplish this difficult task. But who would’ve known she would develop feelings for Derik?

This spectacular novel by A. K. Frailey portrays the possibility of Justine discovering the meaning of love and her own intrinsic humanity. It also suggests that love can transform and bring out the best in individuals, even those perceived to be limited or flawed.

The Future of Love

As technology advances each day, the line between humans and androids may become blurred. With the way that medical technology is developing, the lines between humans and androids may become blurred. Human-androids could even become so advanced that they actually experience emotions like humans. It raises several ethical questions about the nature of love and human-android relationships.

In conclusion, the power of love is a force that can change lives and bring joy. While androids aren’t capable of experiencing love in the same way as human beings, the future may bring changes that we haven’t even considered up to this point. With technological advancements, it is vital to honestly evaluate the ethical implications of human-android relationships and their potential impacts on society. One thing is for sure, Love in all its forms will continue to fascinate humans into an unknown future.

Motivated Life Story

Motivated Life StoryOrientation Characters from the stories My Love Is Strong and So Blind, which are found in the short story collection,It Might Have Been and Other Stories.

In this Motivated Life Story, a woman discovers a new source of strength in a most unlikely situation. Expectations upended can offer a fresh perspective.

Walking into the Education Center meeting room at ten-fifty a.m. on a bright June morning, Wendy sighed in weak weariness. What I wouldn’t give for a cheeseburger about now.

At the crack of dawn, she had taken the puppy for a rambunctious walk, made breakfast for five, scarfed down a bowl of cereal, sent her younger kids off to school, kissed her husband goodbye, checked email, and paid bills, cleaned the kitchen and bleached the bathroom within an inch of its life, made a bowl of chicken salad for dinner, and even tossed a load of laundry in the dryer before jogging three blocks over to Main Street. No wonder she felt tired. A Drill Sargent had nothing on her relentless to-do list.

Squaring her shoulders, she faced the unknown, stepped up to the circular table where assorted folks had found seats, and dropped her handbag onto one of the chairs. With determined effort, she shoved the tantalizing image of a succulent burger and crispy fries out of her mind. Stop being so weak! Maybe on my birthday…

She patted her loosy-goosy stomach flab and, with a wrench, realized for the hundredth time that she wasn’t twenty-five anymore. Nor thirty-five… Heck, forty-five was flashing neon lights and glaring at her to pay attention.

She pulled out a chair and tried once again to redirect her thinking. I’ve got four great kids, a wonderful husband, and days when my family actually listens to me. The sink is finally unplugged, the pup’s foot healed up right nice, and the twins enjoyed school this year, unlike their older siblings who often acted as if the morning bus was taking them to a federal prison…

With another mental shake, she appraised the fifteen or so other people in the room. This was her first meet and greet as a volunteer, and she couldn’t help but wonder what motivated the others to come. Civic duty? Christian charity? Court-ordered community service? Quickly she smothered a snort with her hand, hastily pretending it was a sneeze. She considered the assorted group of grey-headed folks more closely. Retirees? Perhaps they just need something to fill their empty—

“Excuse me? Is this seat taken?”

Well dressed, thin, but too angular for Wendy’s taste, a woman with just a tad too much makeup stood waiting, a stiff smile fixed on her face with a determined air of “I want this chair now.”

Instantly on edge, Wendy blinked, straightened, and tugged her over-stuffed purse off the table. She shoved it down by her feet, out of the way, yet handy if she needed her phone. Why would I need my phone?

The woman dragged out the chair and plopped down with a decided huff.

Wendy controlled a wince and glanced to the side. Uh, oh. Not a happy camper. She looked skyward, though all her gaze met was a cream ceiling with standard fluorescent lighting. Please, Lord, save me from a complain—

“Hate these things. So stupid. A complete waste of my time…know what I mean?”

The strange woman—to be forever remembered as Cranky—radiated irritation.

Wendy swallowed. No full sentences formed, though a babbled attempt at coherent speech was attempted. “I-uh-well-I’m-sorta…Wendy…” She stuck out her hand to cover the awkward moment.

With a wave, the woman bypassed the offer and simply announced, “Nancy. Oh, I’m an old hand at this stuff. No formality with me.” That declaration made, there was little else to say.

Despite the fact that Wendy had done a half-decent job of raising four kids and had the best husband in at least five counties, she suddenly felt about three feet tall and six years old. She clasped her hands and prayed that the orientation would start soon and end quickly.

Nancy pulled a chewy bar from her purse and wrestled the wrapper to death.

Scandalized that a grown woman would pull out food within the sacred confines of an educational setting, Wendy’s nerves got the better of her, and she started to babble again. “I’m new here. Never volunteered like this before, though I was an aid at my kids’ school—”

Nancy was having none of it. She talked around a chew. “Not the same. I taught junior high for thirty-some years. When they offered early retirement, I snatched it! After what I put up with, should’ve gotten combat pay and a medal for every year I put into the system. Know what I mean?”

Wendy didn’t but she was hesitant to admit any further incompetence.

“Good morning!” The Regional Educational Volunteer Coordinator, Ms. Perez, smiled big, waved with both hands and radiated good health and happiness. Thirty-something, not an ounce overweight, with a touch of makeup perfectly applied, and with an infectious smile, the woman brought the room to order. Everyone came to attention, except for Nancy who leaned back in her chair, folded her arms, and obstinately closed her eyes.

Embarrassment swept over Wendy. She tried to smile bright enough to distract their happy leader from the glowering heap on her left. But Miss Perez didn’t seem in the least dismayed. In fact, Nancy might have turned invisible for all the difference her presence made. Wendy yanked a small notebook from her bag, grabbed a pen from a side pocket, and started to take notes. Here was a true educator who knew how to bring vim and vigor to a room full of strangers and managed to contain a discontented mess. Suddenly, Wendy wasn’t the least hungry for a cheeseburger.

At the close of the orientation, Nancy was the first person on her feet. Without a word or a backward glance, she headed for the exit.

As the other volunteers smiled and waved their goodbyes, then meandered out the door, Wendy hung back. Her spiral notebook was brim full of personal impressions and helpful directions, but she still had one big question. She sidled up to the front where Ms. Perez packed her workbag with the sample books and paperwork that she had reviewed with the class.

Feeling very much like the teacher’s pet who wanted extra attention after class, Wendy plastered a look of friendly independence on her face. “Hi, Ms. Perez, I don’t know if you remember—”

“Wendy! Yes, of course. Thank you so much for coming. I hope the orientation wasn’t too overwhelming. We cover a lot since there are a variety of volunteers here: GED, ESL, family services, literacy…”

‘Oh, wow, no, I mean, I was impressed with everything. Don’t know how you keep everything straight.” She held up her little notebook with a depreciating smile. “I took lots of notes.” Watching Ms. Perez clasp her work bag, Wendy hurried on. “I just wondered how you managed to keep on track with…well, with Nancy ignoring you the way she did. That would’ve completely flummoxed me. Yet, you seemed…”

Ms. Perez slung the thick strap over her shoulder and hefted the workbag off the table. “Ah, Nancy. Yes, I’ve dealt with her before. Never easy but better now.” She offered a conspiratorial wink. “I have my weapons.”

With a slight choke, Wendy stared. “Weapons?”

A shrug and Ms. Perez got down to brass tacks. “If she started interrupting and doing her ‘this is a waste of my valuable time’ commentary, I would simply have announced that she could do her community service orientation next month.” A warrior on the field of victory could not have flashed a more satisfied smile. “She doesn’t want me to say anything directly to her.”

Stunned, Wendy processed the words she had heard carefully, but they didn’t make sense. “Community service?”

Ms. Perez nodded. “As in court-ordered. Her fault. She’s had to do community service a number of times—years apart—but she keeps making the same mistakes over and over again.”

Wende desperately wanted to ask the nature of said ‘mistakes,’ but she knew that would be indelicate and, besides, it really was none of her business. “I didn’t realize that was part of your program…” She shook her head. “But I still wonder how you managed to stay so cheerful. I mean, Nancy isn’t that different from a lot of people. Can’t see past themselves.” Gloom fell over Wendy at the thought of all the Nancys she knew in life.

Ms. Perez laid a gentle hand on Wendy’s shoulder. “Nancy wasn’t the only court-ordered community service person in the room. Most of them were. But every time I looked over and saw you taking notes, I thought to myself, this isn’t a waste of my day. Some people are motivated to do the right thing for the right reason.” Her smile widening, Ms. Perez nodded to the door. “My littlest one will be home for lunch soon, so I better head out. But it’s great talking with you.”

With the sensation that her personal orientation had just risen to a whole new level, deliciously fresh strength filled Wendy. She nodded and stashed her notebook away. Then she walked shoulder to shoulder with Ms. Perez toward the door.

Extraterrestrial Life?

Extraterrestrial Life?Could Extra-Terrestrials Struggle Between Hostility and Compassion?

Extraterrestrial Life? What are we talking about and how do we even consider such possibilities?

It’s human nature; we tend to show hostility toward things we don’t understand. Perhaps it is the feeling of having no control over a particular situation or the lack of knowledge and ambiguity surrounding a subject that makes us uncomfortable. If we try to consider the most ambiguous unknown, we might imagine the abyss of outer space and what alien forces could possibly exist there.

There is no question that if today, an alien aircraft were to enter our atmosphere and attempt to develop friendly communication with Earthlings, the military would be on high alert.

That said, there would also be scientists who would see the other side of the equation. They would look beyond obvious differences and try to gain insight and information from the aliens. We might also develop a sense of compassion.

After all, they are our visitors. Dare we even imagine—our guests?

What would the other side of the coin look like? How might aliens react to us? Could these extra-terrestrial beings struggle between hostility and compassion, too? For fun, let’s consider the scenario.

Last of Her Kind

A. K. Frailey’s Last of Her Kind perfectly represents this intriguing duality. Cerulean, an extraterrestrial from Lux, has been sent to protect his people from the growing dangers in the universe. During his routine visits, he follows one woman in particular and becomes fascinated by her combination of endurance and vulnerability. His infatuation with Anne Smith evolves into an extraterrestrial high road, offering the universe true humanity.

As Frailey depicts this exhilarating tale, we can’t help but wonder, is there a particular alien watching over us, evaluating our behavior?

Hostility

A harsh universal reality is that all living things must feed off of life to survive; this is what we know as the circle of life. On the surface, any intelligent alien species will most likely have predatory roots. A lion has to be smarter than a deer, and a wolf has to be smarter than a rabbit. This ideology stems from the evolutionary trait of intelligence; it is promoted if you have to hunt for food. Aside from food, another key motivation for existence besides survival is to pass genetics to the next generation. For example, suppose the alien race is going through a crisis or is merely curious about how to alter their genetics and expand it to other areas in the universe. In that case, they will want to investigate human DNA. This might explain alien abduction stories such as the Betty and Barney Hill Incident or the Antonio Villas Boas case from 1957.

Compassion

Among the various reports of alien abductions, it is also vital to note that if aliens are technologically advanced enough to come even remotely close to the Earth, traveling from lightyears away, they probably have the technology to wipe us out instantly. However, we have yet to see any acts of malicious intent from an alien force. Maybe, the Earth’s nourishing atmosphere is something that can help their evolutionary plight? Or perhaps they are here to oversee and protect us from universal threats?

There has been speculation of Earthlings collaborating with aliens in the past. The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the most well-known examples of this speculation. The colossal structure would have been nearly impossible to build, considering the technological constraints the humans had back in the 27th century BC. Even by today’s standards, it is hard to imagine constructing a monument like that. Each building block weighs at least 2 tons, meaning 1,764,000 pounds of stone being laid for 20 years.

Whether alien visitors would be compassionate or hostile is up for debate. Until we know for certain, delve into A. K. Frailey’s story and transcend space and time in her prelude to the Newearth Justine Awakens, Last of Her Kind, available on Amazon as an ebook, paperback, hardcover, and now on Audible.
