Here's a batch of Batman's bad guys! I'm almost done with my current pencilled batch of Batman related characters. I'll be showing some JLA stuff in the next week along with process shots of various commissions I'm getting started on.

Daily Sketch : Batman...

Just a cool shot of Batman! I've more chances to draw superhero stuff this last month, than in the last year combined. It's been a nice change of pace and loads of fun to do.

For anyone with an inquiry about my commission schedule. I'll be finishing a deadline project this next week and I'll be much more open to wrapping up my outstanding commissions immediately following that. I know they've gotten a bit out of hand and I need to reign them in. My goal is to have it all wrapped up by Sept before I head to more conventions this fall.

I won't be taking on any new commissions until I post the announcement, after I've finished all my previous commission requests.

Daily Sketch : Batman vs. Joker....

Just another one of these Batman vs. series of sketch panels. Classic Joker. I just saw the Suicide Squad trailer from SDCC that has Joker at the end. Man...that's a crazy take on this character, but I think it'll be a great performance. Joker's never been a favorite of mine, but maybe that's just because he doesn't have powers and therefore not unrealistic that someone out there could be this demented. I think it just freaks me out a bit too much. Cool character, but when written really well, he completely unnerves me.

This version is almost cartoony and a little less weird to me.

Daily Sketch : Batman vs Mr. Freeze...

I was having fun working up panels of a Batman story. I'll post up some of my pencils, these were part of something bigger, but it had these cool little "Batman VS..." moments. 
I normally ink all my work now. That's about all I share on my blog any more. So it was cool to just do the pencils and share it at that stage. I really like the new version of Mr. Freeze by the way. A great amount of tech, but still keeping a part of the classic Batman Animated Series aspects to the design. I'd love to draw these characters more.

This is just a very bad camera shot of this blank cover I worked on. I was sure I had a scan of it, but I just have to find the file. When I do I'll repost it. But until then this poorly lit picture will have to do.

Superman, Batman and Wonderwoman sketch. This was all right as I'm working on a JLA project so it was fun getting to draw so many superheroes. Don't get me wrong, I could literally draw GI Joe and Ninjas all day long. Often I have. But I really dig working on superheroes too, and you can't beat DC's big 3.

Daily Sketch : Ninjak Valiant Comics...

Ninjak is another martial arts character I'd love to draw more often. I found that was my favorite type/genre comic to work on. Working out the martial art choreography of a scene is a lot of fun. I like thinking through what moves make sense and how you'd counter them. I'm usually working from a fairly detailed script. However there's always room to interpret or add to a scene if it makes sense visually.

Valiant comics has had an amazing relaunch going back a few years now. They've put out quality books that continue to build. Ninja is an old 90's character that has appeared in many of the other recent Valiant books, but only in the last year has received his own ongoing title. Definitely worth checking out if you're into spy/ martial arts action.

Here's another Snake Eyes sketch. One of the things I like best about the blank covers that everyone is getting lately is that the logo of the book is right there with the commission image. Always makes it look more official.

Daily Sketch : Grayson vs Deathstroke...

Here was another sketch for someone at Heroes Con. Specifically this was for Jeff, who has gotten a sketch from me at about every show we see each other at. I think I've done 6-7 commissions for his at this point and they're always fun to work on. Jeff's been a great dude to meet and catch up with at all the shows! It's that kind of loyalty and patience, that when you ask for a 2 character commission, I'll throw in a couple extra figures. ;)

Daily Sketch : Tigra...

To be honest I don't know much about Tigra. I've seen her in a few Avengers books. I was never reading comics when she was a prominent member of Avengers. But my kids are both really into any girl superhero characters, and Tigra is one of them. They often confuse her with Cheetah, who is a classic Wonder Woman villainess. It's an easy mistake to make.

Daily Sketch Challenge: RELOADED

Back in 2011, on my birthday I started a daily sketch challenge that lasted a whole year. I've kept up my blog periodically since then, but not nearly as regular. So, starting with my birthday this year, I'm going to tackle it once again. Throughout the summer, my plan is to knock out my commission list completely, so that should give me a lot of material to post. Starting in September, I will begin doing my theme months again and as I close in on that I will start taking suggestions on characters and things to do.

I'll be starting with convention sketches from the recent GI Joe convention, and Hero's Con. I'll start off with Aquaman!
