NEW Release by @ElodieParkes ~ The Horoscope Writer

I had the pleasure of being a guest on Elodie’s blog recently. Today, I return the favor and highlight Elodie’s newest release,  The Horoscope Writer.

Please welcome Elodie and find out more about her books.

*    *    *    *

In Elodie’s own words …

I started writing when I was seventeen. I never did anything like submitting to publishers etc. until I was about twenty-five and then queried to no avail.

I started writing again seriously a couple of years ago because I had so many stories in my head.

I have published three erotic romance books to date and I am working on another book right now.

They are available on Amazon kindle. I love eBooks myself, and it’s rare now for me to buy a paperback or hardback.

I read heaps myself from across all types of genres.

For my own writing people and emotions inspires me. The complexity of life spurs me to write.

I find the world harsh. There’s not enough love in it. Lots of people never find love. I write love stories with happy endings to spread a little lightness around.

For instance my book Millie Reinvented was inspired through my day job.

I was talking to a young woman who was in the antiques shop where I work and she was buying a little sculpture of two lovers kissing. She said she had to have it because it was so nice to look at, as her husband didn’t even kiss her anymore. I couldn’t say anything I just wrapped the item, and stored the thought until the story burst out onto my laptop.

My books fall into the category of erotic romance because I do write the sex scenes graphically and that’s because I want the love the characters feel to show up properly in my stories.

I think too that readers have become used to reading more. They don’t want the description of the romance to stop at the bedroom door.

My latest release The Horoscope Writer was inspired by signs along a country road when I was out driving one day in another county.

The main characters just started to flow into my head and by the time I had driven home, which was a three hour journey through the countryside, I had the book and characters completely ready.

Dominic Reed the horoscope writer is desperate for love. He doesn’t know he has never had the kind of love he suddenly finds with Cassie the female lead character. It ignites a sexual passion in him he didn’t know he could feel.

My books do contain graphic sex in the love scenes but they are love scenes, romantic and the characters are driven by love.

The Horoscope Writer is about a man, Dominic, who is a writer and has lots of different writing jobs for magazines amongst which is that of horoscope writing. He is a lonely soul, living in the country on a funny country lane where a few artisan’s workshops are. Fortunately he has a friend there too, Jeremy, who has a workshop, design studio there on the lane.

Dominic is lonely. His last relationship broke up a couple of years prior to the opening of the story and he really wants love.

There is a workshop to let on the lane and Cassie comes along to rent it.

Dominic is instantly attracted to her when he sees her in Jeremy’s office and she finds Dominic irresistible.

There is a mild paranormal streak running through what is an erotic romance because Dominic has been influenced by his great uncle who was also a horoscope writer.

This is a love story, erotic and enticing.

Excerpt from The Horoscope Writer

Dominic walked up behind Cassie as she sorted paintbrushes into a box on one of the workbenches and put his arms around her waist, kissing her neck from behind. She stopped sorting the brushes, and placed the whole bundle on the shelf next to the container to lean back into his arms.

Dominic transferred a hand to cup one of her breasts through her shirt and nuzzled her neck. Cassie felt herself grow weak with longing and began to turn to face him. They pulled each other close kissing each other and moaning just audibly.

Suddenly Dominic smiled against Cassie’s lips and she drew back a little to look into his eyes.

“What Dominic?”

He shook his head. “Nothing bad, I am so desperate to make love to you I can’t think straight”.

Cassie nodded again. “Dominic I want you too. We could just go over to your cottage”.

Dominic didn’t need another prompt. He took her hand and walked her over to his place.

Once inside the house they began to undress each other, and they made it upstairs. Dominic was soon dressed only in his jeans and he lifted Cassie up pulling off her boots and jeans as he kissed her. His kisses were so intense they drove Cassie to gasp. Dominic pulled down her lace underwear, and began to whisper to her as he found her wet for him and pushed his fingers into her.

“Cassie, I’ve never felt like this. I want to say things to you that I have never said to a woman. I want to push into you so hard, and so deep you moan, and come again, and again for me. It’s overwhelming”.

Cassie held his head and kissed him hard. “Say them Dominic, the words, say them”.

He had his eyes closed as she kissed him, his fingers inside her and his erection pressed into the side of her body where he had her lifted to him.

He groaned and shook his head slightly. He was shocked by it. Instead, he lay her on the bed, and entered her with a low moan thrusting deep until he felt as if he would come without giving her the pleasure he wanted to, and he slowed down.

“Cassie ride me”, he whispered, turning over holding her, so that she straddled him.

Cassie sat up on him. She moved on him only for seconds before her orgasm ripped through her making her lie forward over him and try to reach his lips. Dominic caught her head to his and kissed her. He left his lips against hers but moved his hands to hold her hips and press her down to meet his thrusts. His orgasm knocked the breath out of him and he groaned into her mouth.

She works in an antiques shop and writes. Elodie has two dogs that keep her fit with their need for walks.

Elodie writes romance, contemporary and always erotic with a twist of mystery, paranormal, and suspense now and then. She likes to make the story unusual in some way, by a quirk in the tale.

Wednesday October 13th, 3:20 P.M. Washington Heights

Audubon Avenue and W. 170th Street

As Detective Kelli Storm stepped out of the car to the curb, she heard someone yelling from the direction of the corner bodega. Eric Ryder, her new partner, was already moving toward the store when gunshots sounded and he fell to the ground, grabbing at his shoulder. She started to run over to him, fearing the worst and knowing that she had just lost another partner.

Before she could get to him, the shooter yelled something in Spanish and started waving his gun, pointing it in her direction. She pulled her Glock and took aim at the gunman, but there were too many civilians in the way, running toward her as they tried to find cover.

By the time she had a clear shot, the man had an arm around the storeowners neck and was backing into the door of the bodega. She ran over to Eric. “Come on, we have to get you out of the street,” she said, helping him to his feet.

Eric looked at her, then at his shoulder. “The son of a bitch shot me,” he said, his speech slurred.

His left shoulder was bleeding badly, blood staining the material around the wound. She struggled to get him behind the sedan, out of the line of fire. Before they reached cover, he lost consciousness, making it more difficult for Kelli to get him to safety. She managed to get him behind the sedan and eased him to the ground.

Panicked at the thought that Eric might die, she grabbed at the two-way on her belt, pulled it off and pressed the talk button. “Central, this is Detective Storm, badge number three zero two zero, requesting an 85 forthwith to my location for a 10-13, officer down. I’m at the corner of Audubon and 170th,” she said, hearing the fear in her own voice.

Eric looked up at her, his eyes barely open. “What happened,” he mumbled

“Lie still, you’ve been shot, but you’re going to make it. I already called for backup and the bus should be here any minute,” she said, trying to reassure him. “This son of a bitch just made a big mistake.”

She peered around the right bumper and focused on the door of the bodega. The shooter was keeping out of sight. The bastard knows we’re here, and he has to know he’s about to have the wrath of the NYPD fall on his head.

****

Eric moaned and she reached down to check his shoulder. The bleeding looked much worse now, and it was beginning to pool on the asphalt under and around him.

Don’t you even think about dying on me, dammit “Just hold on, Eric, help is coming.” Come on guys. What the fuck is taking so long?

She felt like it had been hours since her radio call to dispatch, but it had really been only minutes. She kept pressure on the wound, hoping he wouldn’t bleed out before EMS arrived. Moments later, three Radio Motor Patrols arrived and while two of the officers hustled civilians out of the way, the third brought his first aid kit over and applied several gauze pads to help stem the blood flow.

“It looks pretty bad,” he said as he pulled more gauze from the bag. “What the hell happened?”

“I don’t exactly know. We stopped because he wanted a soda, and as I was getting out, I heard him shout and then there were two gunshots. Before I really knew what was happening, the perp grabbed the owner and ran back inside that bodega,” she said, pointing toward the corner. “I got him out of the street and back here. I really didn’t want to give the son of a bitch an easy target.”

“Well, EMS should be here any minute. You think the shooter is still in there?”

“Yeah, I’m sure he is,” she said as she picked up her Glock. “You got him?”

The officer nodded. “What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to get this son of a bitch,” she said as she stood and moved around the car and onto the sidewalk.

Music Monday Returns w/ Emmylou by First Aid Kit

This is the second time I’m featuring First Aid Kit,  a Swedish duo made up of two sisters. It’s also the the first of October and my return to Musical Mondays from a brief hiatus.

Though I can’t seem to stop crying while listening to it, I love the lyrics and beautiful harmonies of this song. It’s hard to believe another summer has gone by.

Here is “Emmylou.”

“Oh the bitter winds are comin’ in,

And I’m already missin’ the summer.

Stockholm’s cold but I’ve been told

I was born to endure this kind of weather.

When it’s you I find like a ghost in my mind,

I am defeated and I gladly wear the crown.

I’ll be your Emmylou and I’ll be your June

If you’ll be my Gram and my Johnny too.

No, I’m not askin’ much of you

Just sing little darlin’, sing with me.

Now so much I know that things just don’t grow

If you don’t bless them with your patience

And I’ve been there before I held up the door

For every stranger with a promise

But I’m holding back, that’s the strength that I lack

Every morning keeps returning at my window

And it brings me to you and I won’t just pass through

But I’m not asking for a storm  …”

enjoy,

eden

Inside the Author’s Mind of @DavidCCassidy

A Canadian author raised by wolves? When I read David’s bio, I knew I wanted to learn more. He’s a most interesting man as you will find out.

Aside from being an author, he’s also an accomplished photographer, and I’ve included one of his beautiful pictures below.

Please welcome the author of Velvet Rain, David C. Cassidy.

Shades of Life Photography

Inside David C. Cassidy’s Mind

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Creating art in words and photographs. It doesn’t get better than that.

What turns you on creatively? It’s a feeling. I couldn’t begin to describe it. In writing, it’s when I’ve hit on something magical to me. In photography, it’s when I snap that shutter and know I’ve caught something special. It’s a real high.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse? I’m not sure … I’m not sure.

What quality do you most admire in people? Honesty.

What is your greatest regret? That my mother never lived to see my first book. Nothing else comes close.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? My natural instinct of pessimism. The glass isn’t even half-empty, it’s bone dry. You’re probably not going to print this, are you? I knew it.

[Eden] David, I never censor my guests, especially not the pessimistic ones. ;)

What is your greatest fear? Running out of time—death. I can only hope that in the next life, I get to do all the things I want to do.

Which living person do you most admire? God rest his soul—Steve Jobs. He changed everything. Certainly he had his critics, but here was a man who truly had vision.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Stand-up comedy.

If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be? I’ll take some licence here, and assume we live in a Star Trek universe. I’d be Jean-Luc Picard.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Placing my book, Velvet Rain, in the hands of my father on his birthday. I’ll never trump that.

What is the trait you most deplore in others? Dishonesty. If someone can’t be straight up with you, what’s the point.

What is your greatest extravagance? Camera gear. The bigger the Canon, the lighter the wallet.

What is one thing you want to do before you die? I want to see our beautiful planet from orbit.

What is your favorite music (genre/artist/album/song)? Mozart is king, but Vivaldi ROCKS. I love jazz—the good stuff (Kenny G is not the good stuff.) Classic rock soothes my soul.

What are some of your favorite curse words? Sonofabitch! I have no fucking clue, goddammit.

What is your motto? “Keep your foot on the gas and your eye on the road—you’ll get there.”

Thanks David  for your insightful answers! I truly enjoyed reading them.

Readers, please connect to David and feel free to comment.

Connect with David

David C. Cassidy—author, photographer, half-decent juggler—spends his writing life creating dark and touching stories where Bad Things Happen To Good People. Raised by wolves, he grew up with a love of nature, music, science, and history, with thrillers and horror novels feeding the dark side of his seriously disturbed imagination. He talks to his characters, talks often, and most times they listen. But the real fun starts when they tell him to take a hike, and they Open That Door anyway. Idiots.

David lives in Ontario, Canada. From Mozart to Vivaldi, classic jazz to classic rock, he feels naked without his iPod. Suffering from MAD—Multiple Activity Disorder—he divides his time between writing and blogging, photography and photoshop, reading and rollerblading. An avid amateur astronomer, he loves the night sky, chasing the stars with his telescope. Sometimes he eats.

Planning by the Seat of My Pants

Those who know me well, know I’m not much of a planner, but somehow I get things done … by the seat of my pants, so to speak.

Since the e-book release of Spring into Summer July 9th, I’ve been busy with marketing the book, writing over thirty unique guest blogs and participating in almost as many interviews.

Read the Thank You posts to see the wonderful people who’ve offered their support … so far.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5Part 6

As I continue writing and promoting, I wanted to take a breather and share some other news with you.

Spring into Summer Available in Print

The paperback is now available. The design of the cover and the interior is by the award-winning JB Graphics—who also did my first book. He does amazing work, and I LOVE it.

Check out his website, and connect to him on Twitter @JBGraphix.

I’d also like to extend my sincerest thanks to acclaimed poet Steven Marty Grant, author of Another Hotel Room who did me the honor of reviewing my book. His wonderful words can be found on the back cover, and you can read them here too.

Look for Steven’s new book, Chasing Moriarty coming soon, and connect to him on Twitter @StevenMGrant.

The e-book continues to be sold exclusively at:

Fall into Winter re-published

I’ve republished the e-book of my first anthology, Fall into Winter. The main reason for doing this was to regain full control of the book, originally done by a third party.

The downside is I will lose all the reviews and “Likes” I’ve acquired to date on Amazon. As a temporary remedy, I’ve added the reviews to my blog here. Over time, I hope to get them reinstated to the new version of my book.

Feel free to like and tag me again on my Amazon page. ;)

*   *   *   *

The SECOND e-book edition of Fall into Winter can be purchased at:

Amazon US | Amazon UK  | Smashwords

I’m in the process of republishing the print version as well, however you can still buy it through specific sites listed here until further notice.

E-book of Flash Fiction and Poetry

This, yet to be titled collection, will be a compilation of stories and poems I’ve written for my blog, along with some new ones. I thought it’d be a good idea to offer them in an anthology to increase readership.

This e-book will be available by yearend.

New Website and Blog

I’ve been working with JB Graphics to create a new website. I haven’t made many changes to my site since its inception, and it’s time for a makeover.

Look for a reveal sometime later this year.

Upcoming Novel

I’m researching my new book right now, and it’s moving along—slowly but surely. It’s a mix of John Fowles/Charles Bukowski/Haruki Murakami and a dash of Pauline Réage thrown in for good measure. The full-length novel is a new animal for me since I’m used to writing short stories, so I’m feeling challenged—it’s a good thing.

As for a release date? 2013 is the goal, but don’t push me for anything more specific than that.

I’m  planning by the seat of my pants, remember? ;)

That’s all the news I have for now. I’ll update as I learn more.

Your comments—good, bad, or otherwise are always welcome, and thanks so much for the continued support.

A story of life, love, and a journey of a thousand years…

It was Monday, May 19th, 1975. I’ll never forget that day. The Vietnam War had ended with the fall of Saigon that April, and the world was mired in one of its worst recessions ever. Unemployment in the United States was nearly nine percent, inflation even higher, and leadership lacking. The Watergate scandal had cast a smear across American politics, resulting in Richard Nixon’s resignation in August 1974 to avoid impeachment, and his successor’s immediately pardoning him to close the book on an unhappy chapter in U.S. history.

It was not a good time for anyone and a particularly hard time for the old Victorian town of Cape May. The crown jewel of the New Jersey shore had fallen into neglect and disrepair and was dying a slow death. Once the elegant summer home to presidents and kings, it had become the last refuge of the deposed.

That’s where I met Tom Ryan. Tom was a king, or so he would have you believe, but unlike Richard Nixon, when Tom was dethroned, he wasn’t sent home with a slap on the wrist. He was sent to prison. He was a convicted draft dodger, but one of the lucky ones released early by President Ford as part of his mass clemency after Nixon’s pardon. The problem was, Tom had nowhere to go when he got out, so he took the money his dad mailed to him and spent it on a bus ticket to get as far away as possible to a place where nobody cared who he was or what he had done, a place where nobody cared about anything. That place was Cape May.

As hard a time as it was for everyone, it was harder for me because that was the day I met Tom Ryan. I should have turned and walked away. I knew it when he first looked at me, but I didn’t, not my first mistake, but one that would make Monday, May 19th, 1975 the hardest day of my life.

This is the story of how Tom Ryan and I met and how things never quite work out the way you think. You might find a love story in here somewhere. You might not. You might find a message hidden in one of the nickel pop bottles collected by the beachcombers from some of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the world. You might even find a little mystery, but life is a mystery, isn’t it?
