I start out plotting, write an outline, etc., but usually around chapter three the characters surprise me with something and I'm forced to modify. The outline becomes more of a rough suggestion, and I roll with it. I can see how plotting every chapter and scene would make the writing go faster. To this point, though, I've not been able to stick with it. As to the focus, I don't know how to answer that. I start writing and sink into the scene. Most of the time I find it hard to come up for air!(less)
