I have found three ways to deal with writer’s block.

The first is to get out of my head. Do something else, watch something, read something, go somewhere. The key I’ve found to this trick is always to be open if inspiration should strike. Never turn down an idea that comes to you, even if it’s a bad one you can run with it and change your mind later. That’s the beauty of being a writer.
The second way that I’ve found is to work on another project. Sometimes I’ve been working on a single project for so long that I get lost in the story, even lost in the character’s mind. My theory is that it never hurts to start something new, even if you don’t spend more than a day on it. In ten years, you may discover that that strange new idea you had in a moment of writer’s block is your new favorite project.
The third way is also the trickiest. Find someone that loves your stories and characters as much as you do and bounce your ideas or lack of ideas off them. For this I have my twin sister, not everyone does, hence the label of trickiest. Trisha is a very essential part of the first draft of each book because when I do get stuck, when I am lost, if I don’t know where to go next, she may have an answer or idea that will spark a whole new set of chapters. I know not everyone can have a Trisha, but if you do, or you could that is the real ticket to dealing with writer’s block.
