Another Attempt at Art

Here is my second one. These are not characters from the current novels, just random people I thought up. They may appear in later books though. I am working on more that I may post in the coming weeks. What I need to do is try and sell these images somehow so that I can raise funds to buy more tools, textures, and etc.

So what do you think? Cool or bust?

Trying My Hand At Art..

So, I have just started messing around with some digital art with the hopes of creating some character and scene sketches for future books. So far my set of textures, and other tools is very limited, but I have come up with this one:

Cover Reveal!

The first Quartet should hit stores by the end of the week… I hope. But until then, here is the cover! For this one, I made it my self instead of using my normal artist as I had her working on sketches for the internal pages. I am still touching it up, but this should be pretty close to final cover. Enjoy the sneak peek! The First Quartet Cover

April 2013 State of The Tales

It has been a while since I have updated my fans on the state of the series so here comes your much sought after update! I have two more novels in the writing (previously both were veiled behind the “Volume V” moniker), but I am not sure which I will release first. One will be called “Spectra’s Gambit” and the other “The Sac’a’rith.” At least those are the working titles at this point. It would not be unusual for me to change the title a dozen times over as the story develops and I change my opinion on what part of the tale to highlight in the title. I hope to have at least one out by late summer.

Gambit as you might guess will feature some of the core characters you all have come to love over the last few books, and add a few new friends for you to make. Sac’a’rith will feature a mostly new cast, and move the Lost Tales in to a new section of the galaxy. I am having great fun writing both, so I am not sure which I will focus on first.

It has been a while since I have posted, and frankly that is because the special project has been delayed and I kept hoping that if I waited to post I could post news about its readiness. However all I can post is that work is moving forward just at a much slower pace then I hoped for. I have completed the cover at least, which is a work of my own instead of my normal cover artist. She is making artwork for inside the book, so I took over the cover this time. While we are on this topic, since the project is late, I am still collecting questions for the FAQ. Please send them my way. I have around a dozen so far that I am adding, but was hoping for a bunch more from fans.

That is all for now! Please continue to send me comments, questions and other mail. I love to hear from fans as it makes me feel like someone cares about my work beyond my wife.

Notification List Change

Some of you have signed up to be emailed when new releases or other major news happens. Originally I was handling that all by hand, but it is getting to be a bit much to handle, especially with all the anti-spam laws that I have to make sure I follow in every country where someone might some day sign up from. To solve this I am moving my email list to Mailchimp. I will start adding the link to my published books, and turn off the ability to register here. Until all that is ready you can use this link to sign up:

Thanks for your support, and please spread the word about my books! With more and more people entering into the independent book market every day, it is getting harder and harder to get noticed. Thanks!

Update on Volume V

I just wanted to give everyone a fast update on Volume V. I have decided to experiment a bit with Volume V, so I am struggling a little bit on getting that ironed out. I am back up to twenty-five thousand words on it, so progress is being made. More on that in a moment.

I have been very busy trying to line up deals and get things in place for the up coming collectors edition of Volumes I-IV, and have a surprise lined up for it. There will be a new part in it, but I will not say much more then my cover artist came up with a great idea for it that is much better then what I previously announced. Stay tuned for more on that, as we get closer to production.

In Volume V, I am going back to the model that Shadows used of only having two major story lines running at once time. Darkness at some points got hard for many fans to follow, so I am backing that off a bit. I am also planning to test longer chapters in Volume V. In volumes two through four, each chapter was a scene which worked ok, by ended up with almost 100 chapters in Darkness. Each chapter often lost space to reintroducing the same main characters and setting up the same cast. It made for some awkward transitions.

In Volume V, I am only changing chapters when the main character changes. To put this in perspective that means about 3 to 5 chapters in Darkness is equivalent to 1 chapter in Volume V. I will use sub-chapter breaks when I need to make a drastic jump of some kind in setting or time. I think it will work out to be an easier read this way, but you all will have to tell me that when you get it.

I am also planning to market Volume V as a stand-alone book, even though it will be in the same universe, and have a few carry over characters. It will be written in such a way that anyone picking it up can dive right in, and read the first four later. Or at least that is the plan.

So that is your fast update on the state of the universe, please leave questions and comments below! I love hearing from readers of my books!

Update on the Print Edition of Darkness and Other News

Volume IV – Resurgence of Ancient Darkness has been released, and is starting to appear in all major ebook stores around the Internet. It is my longest book to date, so much so that I had to reduce the font size in the print edition to keep the page count low enough to prevent a price hike! I thought it was going to be about the same size as Shadows, but it ended up being forty pages longer in print. Hopefully the font is still big enough to be comfortable for everyone. The digital proof looks great, and I have ordered my physical proof. I expect it will only be a few more days until the print edition is ready to be ordered.

As always, in order to keep the cost of the book reasonable it will be available only on Amazon Create Space, and Amazon.com. In order to put the print book in more stores I would have to have a 30% increase in its price, which puts me out of the market.

With the closing of Darkness, in my mind the foundation of the universe is complete. Volume V will have some overlap with the rest of the series, but can standalone. In my overarching universe timeline, Volume V opens while Darkness is happening, but then continues on past the close of Darkness.

Books from this point forward may have the same people (I have grown fond of Dusty and Spectra after spending so much time with them in Darkness), or may have no over lapping characters at all. Together all the books will describe one large dynamic multiverse with many diverse stories ranging from pure fantasy to pure sci-fi.

As a teaser, tentatively, I am planning a trip to Korshalemia in Volume VI, while Volume V is set squarely in Vydoria. Volume VII tentatively will open a new realm for exploration, but we will just have to see how things develop before I commit to the order in which these stories play out.

I also wanted to let everyone know that I am planning a special edition to come out in the next couple of months. It will be a collection of all four books in to one massive eBook. In addition to having everyone book to date in it, it will a few bonus sections. One will be pencil type sketches of scenes that never made the cover. These sketches will be inserted in line with the story, around where they happen in each book. Another will be a FAQ section on the series (I am still gathering questions for that, so send them in!). I also plan to add some of my notes that I made as I was writing that might help fill in the details a bit, including a rough time line. I will also digitally sign the volume using my tablet and a stylus. This edition will likely cost $8.99, but will not be offered in print unless there is a demand for it as it will be cost prohibitive.

That is my update for now, more to come as things develop! So send in those questions after you read Darkness and you may get this super special edition for FREE!

Volume IV is OUT!

I have uploaded the book directly to Amazon, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, and Smashwords. So far only Smashwords has the book live, but the rest should have it in the next 24-48 hours. Smashwords will send the book in a month or so to the rest of the ebook stores, such  as Apple and Sony.

Side Note: In a few days I will be announcing a collector’s ebook edition of all four first books. Watch this web site for details!

Some details on the Volume IV:

Volume 04: Resurgence of Ancient Darkness

When Shadow’s team healed reality by closing the last tear they paved the way for a new evil, one that has been patiently waiting for its chance to rise again. Shadow must build a navy out of his fledgling Battle Wizards and carry the fight to the enemy before it comes for them. Meanwhile, the old man and his steel-eyed partner are making their own plans, and the peace that once reigned throughout the galaxy has come tumbling down.

The Lost Tales of Power is an open-ended series of Sci-Fi/Fantasy books set in a vast multiverse. Resurgence of Ancient Darkness is the final book in first quartet.
