Fred With Tires

What makes a hot hero?
I saw the beautiful people dating website, which shall remain nameless, had kicked off 30,000 members because they didn't meet the standard of beauty set by other members. So all of these ugly people, presumably, had nothing to offer the more shallow, narcissistic, 'you can't be in our club' losers.
Stop. Really.
Two of my favorite heroes are in the 'ugly' club - both Mary Balogh creations. In The Secret Pearl, Adam Kent, Duke of Ridgeway, was wounded in the Napoleonic Wars, receiving a scarred face and severe wounds on his side. He has such a look that he frightens the heroine, but he is everything that is noble and caring.
In Simply Love, Syd Butler was wounded in the Peninsular Wars, captured by the French and tortured. He has lost his right eye, his right arm and his also wounded and scarred down to his knee. He is vulnerable and determined.
Both of these heroes might not be considered worthy in today's superficial world but they are really what makes a man a man. Ms. Balogh has portrayed their characters with raw emotion, each dealing with their outward appearance with honor and dignity. Both were beautiful and were proof that beauty is more than skin deep.

Wicked Lord, Book Three in the Wicked Affairs Series
Here it is. The new cover for WICKED LORD.
Edward Chase, the wicked Earl of Redding, has taken the perfect wife: the beautiful, innocent Helene Cosgrove. There is only one small problem - she's in love with another man.
The wicked lord will have to do something about her inconvenient attachment.
Another GREAT cover by artist Dar Albert. Doesn't she capture the mood of the 19th Century? Just lovely.

Book Three in the WICKED AFFAIRS series: Wicked Lord

Found out late last week that my newest Wicked story was accepted by Ellora's Cave. My editor sent me word today that the title is now official as well, WICKED LORD.
Edward Chase, the wicked Lord Redding appeared in my previous novel Wicked Temptation as the would be seducer of the heroine Anne VanLandingham. His failure and the ensuing scandals in Redding's life lead directly to marriage. Only his new wife is in love with another man.
Redding is convinced that properly bedding his wife will rid her of such romantic notions as love. After an orgasm or three, she'll forget the other man's name...won't she?

The Dream of Writing
This month it will be a year since I got my first book contract with Ellora's Cave. Now, three manuscripts have been published under the Legend line, all in my favorite writing style - historical.
It is good.
The dream of writing was really a misplaced phrase. It should have been the dream of having my written work published. I have written for years, each finished novel only made my writing better, IMHO. But that didn't satisfy me the way getting a work published did. It wasn't enough that I thought my story was worth reading. I had to know that someone else would also like my story. That the words were good enough to appear behind a beautiful cover and a copyright.
So now my goal is to find more readers, more people who enjoy what I've written. Yes, my dream has changed again. My new dream: to grow an audience and to gain more success as a published author. I think I can do it and it is wonderful to have a successful publisher and great editor behind me on this journey.
