JR Spox’s Daily Briefing – Pro Sports Teams are Changing their Names

Special interest groups are on the offense during these challenging times. Once they saw leaders were not going to take control, they took advantage. “Let’s come up with a reason to change the name of Pro Sports teams and other things.”

Some names are offensive. Some changes are a reach.

Washington Redskins
Team name: ‘Code Talkers’ rejected. ‘DC Sharks’ suggested. Lobbyist opposed.

Seattle Seahawks
Team name: ‘CHAZ’ in remembrance of the social demonstrations downtown.

Cleveland Indians
Team name: Simply ‘Baseball’. That has a ring to it. ‘Go Bases’.

Seattle Mariners
Team name: ‘the Choppers’ in memory of the organized protest downtown. Fans can bring their own fireworks and signs. Also, no one will have to go through a metal detector or be searched in any way at the gate.

Atlanta Braves
Team name: ‘Home of the Brave’. New logo a picture of a war veteran. That idea was quickly shot down by a protest group.

St. Louis Cardinals
City name is under attack. origin is from King Louis IX from France (1270) who was a racist. New name: ‘St. Louie’.

Our Real Players
Our condolences to those who have lost love ones and to the patients and their family members that continue to fight COVID-19. A big salute to our doctors and medical workers and our first responders.

James Moushon To all my friends.

Authors: The Task of Finding Readers – A Study
Over 30 Outstanding Authors Share Their Experiences. Compiled by James Moushon

As they say “This is great stuff. As author try to gain traction in today’s marketplace. The secret beside writing good books is to find readers and establish relationships.”

Here are some quotes from the study. This is just a sample.
You can view the complete study on the blog: HBS Author’s Spotlight

Or you can email me at: james.moushon@gmail.com and I will sent you an eCopy FREE of charge.

The Starting Gate
Finding readers is an important activity if you want to be a successful writer. So I reached out to a group of authors to find out how they found their readers and formed relationships.
Ready. Set. Go.

Elizabeth S. Craig
“I use a mix of approaches to find and engage readers. I recommend finding one or two social media platforms that you feel comfortable with and then keeping those updated.”

Dianne Harman
“Finding a reading audience is one of the most difficult things an author has to deal with…”

Developing Lists
Lists are the key to forming a relationship with readers and keeping in contact with them.

Pamela Fagan Hutchins
“The better my mailing list reflects the true readers of my books, the better my ability is to impact my rank with sales/reads when I send a newsletter about a new release.”

Social Media – Facebook – Twitter - Instragram
A Social Media presence is a must to keeping in contact with readers. They will get to know you and find what’s coming next.

Cindy Blackburn
“Twitter is my baby! Twitter is my number one way of finding new readers. I post fun and funny tweets about my books, and add links to Amazon. Then, once my relationship with a reader has begun (once a reader has “discovered” me and my books), then I think FaceBook is very helpful to inform readers of my other books.”

Use the Internet
Use the Internet with tools like email, blogging, a website and a newsletter.

J.A. Jance
“I write a blog which is published each Friday. There is no advertising—not on Facebook and not on my web page, either. The blog offers a window on my world and allows readers to get to know the person behind the words on the pages. I respond to every email personally. Those people are my readers.”

S.R. Mallery
“I’ve also developed a Newsletter, which I am now sending out twice a month. Although my books have been mostly historical fiction, my newsletter is very eclectic.”

Groups and Networking
The more interaction the better. Readers are everywhere including the authors who read also. Look for groups of readers and authors to spread about your works.

Cheryl Bradshaw
“Working with other authors is a big key to author success. Networking helps us stay relevant and to know what trends are working in the industry and which trends aren't.”

Sharon Skinner
“I actually find that networking with people who have similar interests outside of reading is as helpful as engaging directly on reader/author sites.”

Direct Contact – Personal Appearances – Signings – Book Fairs - Book Stores
An old sales saying: ‘Word of Mouth’ is the best technique to reach your audience.

Teresa Burrell
“I do a lot of in-person events (or at least I did before the pandemic). I do book clubs, book festivals, private speaking events, home show events, and just about any group of readers I can get in front of.”

Ads and Promotions
Advertising and promotions are very effect if done at the right time and in the right place.

Lorhainne Eckhart
“The methods that have worked well for me are by offering free books, for example the first book in a series free. What happens is it drives sales to my other titles in the series. It's a great way to find new readers.”

Book Sets
A collection of books with other authors is a great way to gain exposure to new readers.

James Moushon
“One of the trends for finding new readers is doing Box Sets with other authors. They are usually by genre, have authors with good social media numbers and have good content.”

Problems – Don’t Hide from your readers – Use Social media
There are some challenges ahead.

Terry Ambrose
“It's a great question because we all struggle with this. For any given slice in time, I find social media to be of not much help.”

Conclusion
A great study by a great bunch of outstanding authors. Finding readers is an important activity if you want to be a successful writer. Don’t hide from your audience. Work hard.
Ready. Set. Get going.

Author Description:

Uvi Poznansky is a USA TODAY bestselling, award-winning author, poet and artist. "I paint with my pen," she says, "and write with my paintbrush." Her romantic suspense box set, Love Under Fire, made the USA TODAY bestselling list, as did her medical thriller box set, Do No Harm; and her romance box set, A Touch of Passion, was the 2016 WINNER of The Romance Reviews Readers' Choice Awards.

Education and work:

Uvi earned her B. A. in Architecture and Town Planning from the Technion in Haifa, Israel and practiced with an innovative Architectural firm, taking a major part in the large-scale project, called Home for the Soldier.

Having moved to Troy, N.Y. with her husband and two children, Uvi received a Fellowship grant and a Teaching Assistantship from the Architecture department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. There, she guided teams in a variety of design projects and earned her M.A. in Architecture. Then, taking a sharp turn in her education, she earned her M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.

She worked first as an architect, and later as a software engineer, software team leader, software manager and a software consultant (with an emphasis on user interface for medical instruments devices.) All the while, she wrote and painted constantly, and exhibited in Israel and California. In addition, she taught art appreciation classes. Her versatile body of work includes bronze and ceramic sculptures, oil and watercolor paintings, charcoal, pen and pencil drawings, and mixed media.

The David Chronicles is a historical fiction series with a modern twist. It includes three novels--Rise to Power, A Peek at Bathsheba, and The Edge of Revolt--and six art through the ages collections, describing each moment of the story.

Her poetry book, Home, is in tribute to her father. Her collection of dark tales, Twisted, and her Historical Fiction book, A Favorite Son, are both new age, biblically inspired books. In addition, Uvi wrote and illustrated two children books, Jess and Wiggle and Now I Am Paper. For each one of these books, she created an animation video (find them on YouTube and on her Goodreads page.)

Ash Suspense Thrillers: Trilogy

Coma Confidential:

Ash finds herself in the ER diagnosed with coma. She has no memory of what has happened to her, but what she can do—despite what everyone around her might think—is listen to the conversations of her visitors. One of them is the man who raped her.

For Ash, there is little time to gather clues: blackouts are happening not only in the hospital but throughout California. The Russian hackers who are intent on sabotaging the power grid are trying to blackmail her boyfriend, Michael, into helping their cause. And what better way for them to do it but by kidnapping her out of the hospital?

Overkill:

The last thing Ash expects when she lands in Clearwater, Florida is to be stalked by a troubled teenager. If that's not bad enough, she is caught in a shooting spree next to the nearby elementary school. The cops think it’s an attempt at mass killing, but Ash wonders if the only victim was specifically targeted by the killer. Will she manage to identify him and have him arrested before he comes after her?

Overdose:

After recovering from coma, Ash discovers that the man who performed her brain surgery has a questionable medical experience and a dark past, starting with his medical mission in India ten years ago and ending just recently, with his wife’s suicide. Should Ash expose him, at the risk of becoming vulnerable to his revenge?
