When Maria V. Snyder was younger, she aspired to be a storm chaser in the American Midwest so she attended Pennsylvania State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. Much to her chagrin, forecasting the weather wasn’t in her skill set so she spent a number of years as an environmental meteorologist, which is not exciting...at all. Bored at work and needing a creative outlet, she started writing fantasy and science fiction stories. Over a dozen novels and numerous short stories later, Maria’s learned a thing or three about writing. She’s been on the New York Times bestseller list, won a half-dozen awards, and has earned her Masters of Arts degree in Writing from Seton Hill University, where she is now a faculty mem ...more

I chose to use 3rd for Valek and Janco for a couple reasons. One - I think staying in first person between characters is really difficult to do well (and without jarring the reader) - I've read a few books that stay in first and I didn't like them. Two - I'm not ready to do a first person male POV - I'm not male and I don't know if I can "pull it off." I'd like to practice more before attempting it in one of my novels. Three - I liked the bit of mystery 3rd person keeps. I read a book where the main male protagonist was hard to read and he was mysterious and seemed dangerous, but then in a follow-up book the writer wrote this character in first person and that sense of mystery disappeared and it ruined it for me! So I wanted Valek to keep a bit of that mystery (don't know if I pulled it off or not). So that's why :).(less)

Wow - it's dusty in here! And look at all the spam comments I need to delete. Sorry, I have to admit, I'm not a blogger. So why keep my blog? Because this works when I wish to do an interview and giveaway with a fabulous author. I thought I'd be doing more of these, but this year has been BUSY. I use Facebook to post updates and fun things so that's the best bet. Maria's Author Page

The Study Series by Maria V. Snyder

Poison Study Magic StudyFire Study

goodreads summary for book 1-The Barnes & Noble Review
Like the deadly toxins sought out by the ill-fated food taster Yelena in Maria V. Snyder's debut novel, Poison Study is a powerfully compelling romantic fantasy that will slip under readers' skin, invade their bloodstreams, and seize their heartstrings.

Yelena, convicted of murdering the son of a powerful general, awaits execution. But with only a few hours left, she is offered an incredible reprieve -- and agrees to become the new food taster for Commander Ambrose, the military leader of Ixia. Living in a palace and eating only the best meals is a dramatic change for Yelena, who spent the last year locked up in a rat-infested dungeon, eating gruel. But she soon realizes that she has more to worry about than ingesting potentially lethal poisons in the commander's meals. The general whose son she murdered has vowed bloody vengeance, and everyone in the commander's retinue look at Yelena as an untrustworthy criminal. The longer she stays alive, however, the more she begins to understand her own perplexing abilities -- all of which will be put to the test when cunning rebels plot to take control of Ixia.

While many genre-blending novels seem to unintentionally dilute the literary domains involved, Poison Study is both a riveting romance and a spellbinding fantasy. The richly historied and vividly described realm that Snyder has created is completely convincing and large enough to encompass (hopefully) many more novels featuring Yelena, an enigmatic heroine with so many secrets and so much promise. Frost series by Kailin Gow

Bitter FrostForever FrostSilver FrostFrost Kisses

Goodreads Summary for book 1-All her life, Breena had always dreamed about fairies as though she lived among them...beautiful fairies living among mortals and living in Feyland. In her dreams, he was always there the breathtakingly handsome but dangerous Winter Prince, Kian, who is her intended. When Breena turns sixteen, she begins seeing fairies and other creatures mortals don't see. Her best friend Logan suddenly acts very protective. Then she sees Kian, who seems intent on finding her and carrying her off to Feyland. That's fine and all, but for the fact that humans rarely survive a trip to Feyland, a kiss from a fairy generally means death to the human unless that human has fairy blood in them or is very strong, and although Kian seemed to be her intended, he seems to hate her and wants her dead.

goodreads summary for book 1-This is not your typical boybites-girl love story.

Technically Sunshine can't get killed-because she's immortal. Well, not quite yet. Due to the worst case of mistaken identity with her dark-side-loving twin sister at a Goth club called Club Fang, Magnus, a vampire hottie, went for Sunshine's innocent neck. Now if she doesn't reverse it in time, Magnus will be her blood mate forever and she's doomed to be a blood-gulping, pasty, daylight-hating vampire. That would seriously bite.

And now, after the unfortunate slaying of the vampire leader, Sunshine, her sister Rayne, and Magnus must find the one thing that can solve her problem: the Holy Grail. They wish it were a joke but it's not. It's absolutely necessary that Sunshine gets out of this in time, because somehow she scored the hottest prom date in her school, the mouth-watering Jake Wilder. So she just can't be a vampire for the prom-let alone the rest of eternity.

I shall wait eagerly. The certain event (which I shall not name for fear of a painful death) that happened at the end of the second book left me breathless, and to deal with the shock, I locked myself in my room for nearly a week to read the two over...and over...again ('twas the holidays.) I cannot wait for the next! (God...I'm addicted...)

Thanks for gracing the earth with your books, they have saved many from the dark pits of boredom. My particular favourite is Touch of Power, can't wait for the third book to come out!!! Inside Out was the first one I read, and it blew me away too. Keep on rocking!!! :D

Deedee I <33 you! You are my favorite author. I really love Healer Series! Don't even get me started on Study series, I can't express how much I love that series. I have been rereading it every month. I love your writing style and how you portray the characters. I know you spend a lot of time on them because they come out to be flawless.

Rainenoelle Hi Maria,

I just wanted to express to you what an impact your Study series has made on me. From the first time I read Poison Study (just last week), I knew from that point on you shot up to the top spot as my favorite author. I seriously have not been so obsessed with a series since reading Harry Potter back when it first came out. I can't wait to read your other books!

Your talented writing has totally "poisoned" me!

Keep those great books coming
