Horse Feather's Ch. 8

It's Friday, so there's another new chapter of Horse Feathers.  This one was really hard to write.

Been editing/proofreading "The Girl With No Name".  Getting really close to release time... I should have a date once I get copyright/ISBN stuff all sorted out.  But it's on track to be out by the end of the month.

At the moment I'm planning to include some full color maps, but have a little concern about the increased file size.  Is this something people with Kindles worry over much?

Introducing Banana Peel & New Sunny Doodle

Another young friend of mine with some art skills gave me permission to apply some of her photos and drawings to cafepress swag.  I'll probably be adding these slowly since I have a lot on my plate, but I'm glad to finally get something of hers up.

Fall Leaves

Her name isn't actually "Banana Peel", but that's probably the section name we'll use when I get hers set up.

I've had some of my mom's art up for a while now, but it's not selling. So I tried to different technique with prepping her last doodle, replacing her color pencil texture with solid colors. Sunny Doodle

The wine tote and lunch bag are new cafepress items.  It's a little tricky to fit designs to the wine tote, but I've got several on lunch bags.

Horse Feather Ch 7

Horse Feathers Chapter 7 is up on fictionpress.  A first night in the desert...

I posted a preview of the Seventh Night cover on Deviant Art.  You can see it here to, though it's larger on DA.  I'd love feedback on it.

SNKindlecoverSmall

Cafepress added about 12 new items, mostly new shirts, but also lunch boxes and diaper bags.  I was very busy this week updating the shop.  The diaper bags are kind of pricey, but they look really cool.  My favorite is WATER featuring Gi.

The Girl With No Name, Kindle Cover

GWNN Kindle Cover
Here's what I have for "The Girl With No Name" Kindle cover art.  I'm fairly happy with it, though I'm certainly open to suggestions, if you see something that could be fixed/better.  Posted an updated look at the Seventh Night cover art on DeviantArt too.

For some reason the Kindle program has randomly decided not to work on my computer...argh.  Guess I'll go deal with that.  And then, formatting!

New Design and Horse Feathers Chapter 6

Thunder Silhouette
Thunder here looked fine on my computer, then I uploaded him to Deviant art and spotted some artifacts.  Ugh.  So I'll be cleaning him up and updating files this afternoon.  Overall still pretty pleased with the design.  There's a white version of this too for dark items.

Also Chapter 6 of Horse Feathers has been posted on time this week.  I'm hoping people will be able to piece together why Phillip's dad is nervous.  Unfortunately I can't come out and say it, but I think I scattered enough clues...

Chapter quote:

"Merchant's are the best mathematicians you can find, right?"

"Oh, sure," the soldier agreed with his own chuckle. "As long as they're not figuring their taxes."

I've been working on logo designs for Seventh Night and The Girl With No Name.  I like the basics of what I have, but finding colors that work well small as well as big is tricky.  Unfortunately I need something that will read well at Thumbnail size as well as book size, and that's proving difficult.

"The Girl With No Name" will be a ebook release

Seventh Night is taking longer to edit than I had hoped.  Which is okay, as I'd rather get it right than fast, but for financial reasons, I feel I need to release something soon.  The Girl With No Name turned into a pretty decent little novella.  Originally I was planning to release it as part of a 4-story set, but now, I've decided to go ahead and release it by itself on Kindle.  I think this will help establish me as a fiction writer and hopefully get people excited about Seventh Night.

It's much shorter and less...ambitious....than Seventh Night, so I think I can get it sufficiently edited by the end of the month.  There will most likely be a free release, followed by downloads for $1.99 (or similar low price).  I'll let you know when the free release is available.

Book Update and Kindle Question

I knew when I wrote this book it should be updated with a new edition every 5 years or so, and with Healthcare reform coming in full force in 2014, I think the end of 2013 is a good time to say goodbye to the first one.  Anyway, it will still be available until the next time I need to pay the listing fee.  (I'll get back to you with the date.  I think it might be August.)  Much of the information in the book is timeless, but the second edition will have at least one additional chapter "Health and Medicine" (or some variation on that theme).  And I'll update a lot of little details and examples to make the book more current.

Ideally, the book would be off the market entirely for a little over a year, and second edition will be available at the end of 2014.  Realistically, it's too early to set dates.

I'm wondering if I should take advantage of the digital age, and instead of making a seperate listing for Kindle, just update the existing listing, which means those of you who have already bought Kindle copies, would get the update for free.

My only hesitation is someone might get miffed to find their book edition swapped out on them.  Thoughts?

P.S. I've tagged most of the entries now.  Should be easier to find relevant posts.

P.P.S. Leg has stopped tingling.  Still not conclusively sure what caused it, but I've been trying to exercise a little more, not sit so long, and keep the laptop off my lap.

New Design and Chapter 5

No punk like a Steampunk
Hope the steampunk people like this one.  I feel like it's not quite up to Steampunk art standards, but I'm reasonably pleased with it.

I almost forgot, but I managed to post Chapter 5 of Horse Feathers before the day was out.  Finally got Phillip out of town, and touched on some characters from "The Girl With No Name".

I think I've decided to put "The Girl With No Name" out as a Kindle release.  There'll be a free download period followed by a low price, since it's novella length.  Mainly I want to get my name out there.  I've been cleaning up the story.  Not changing any major plot points, overall I'm very pleased with that story, but I'm reshuffling where the chapters break.

New Dexter Design

DexCoffeeSmall
Mainly a text shirt with a really obscure reference, but I don't think anyone else has done a coffee machine shirt.

Horse Feather Ch. 4

Posted Chapter 4 of Horse Feathers.  Phillip gets some life changing news.

I'm trying to write ahead of posting which is a good thing.  I wrote chapter 8, started chapter 9, then realized some elements of chapter 8 were completely wrong for the psychological effect I need.  So this afternoon, I'll be rewriting... it's one of those critical moments that needs to be just right.

Been trudging along with cafepress stuff.  No new designs, but I've been altering current designs to fit more products.  I added the forest background element as a customizable design on Zazzle (minus the redcoat element).  I upped the contrast on the trees, so the layers are more distinct.

I was really bummed that they didn't show Grimm on Friday.  I think it was worth interrupting programmings to say they caught the guy.  It wasn't worth missing Grimm for the reporters to ramble on for an hour(s) with a lot of speculation and no new information.
