Carye Bye is the local museum expert in Portland, Oregon. She loves her adopted hometown of Portland. (She's originally from Minnesota!) and when she's not exploring her favorite city by bicycle or foot, leading bicycle tours, or curating her Bathtub Art Museum, she makes a living printing original woodcut and letterpress prints in her very own garage-studio "The Bat Cave" under the name Red Bat Press. She also enjoys bike-camping, clipping articles out of the paper, drinking tea, and borrowing the neighbors' cats.

This month the Oregonian reviewed Hidden Portland: Museums in the Sunday Book section. Here's the link:

A Classic must for any Portlanders library. I reread this book again and it's a great mix of lists of things to see or do (once could have!) and "postcard" stories of experiences the author had. For anyone lamenting Old vs New Portland, this book is ...more

Well done guys! I didn't really know what to expect. I've read Portland Confidential and knew about bits and pieces but what I liked about this book is it is not vignette style but more chronological starting in the 1930s with the Waterfront Strike. ...more

Murder is not really a subject I'm drawn to but I've decided to read most of the books I can on Portland and JD now has a small series out in History Press. This one is vignette style and covers just over dozen stories. I think I'm of a first person ...more

Finn J.D. John is a fun writer. There are now quite a few books on "seedy" early Portland but i hadn't read this one and this one focuses on the early days of Portland as a seaport town. There's a chance to use a QR code to go to more on the web but ...more

I really got a lot out of this book. (I have the 2010 edition, but glad to hear this is getting another go with a new printing). This book will be part of the Hidden Portland Library.

Thanks Mia! I'm a Portlander and really got into the bike scene in
