Just a reminder
Saving Daylight
Just last November, we turned back our clock,
and with that extra hour that we found,
we interrupted our late midnight walk
beneath a tree. Ripe acorns snapped the ground.
And since said time I've loitered on the spot,
snow-sprinkled in post-coital solitude,
to reheat moldy memories I bought
with this hour's debt and what use has accrued.
Now, in the fountain, orange Asian fish
hide from my shadow as I pay respect
to what I owe to winter as I wish
you would remember or Time would n...

People are Made of People: Mykle Hansen Being Awesome
In this video, Famous Author Mykle Hansen, author of Help! A Bear is Eating Me! and The Rampaging Fuckers of Everything on the Crazy Shitting Planet of the Vomit Atmosphere, reads from his latest novel, The Cannibal's Guide to Ethical Living.
I'm not quite clear on what this means. This story touches on a number of things: feminism, revisionist history, a merging of evolution with creationism, the Genesis story, and, of course, eating people. As Ms. Streisand said, people who eat people are...

Free Bizarro Books in February
So far on Goodreads, about 520 people have entered to win a free copy of my book plus a fifty trillion Zimbabwean dollar bill, plus two Bucket of Face postcards they can send to friends who didn't win, just to rub it in. Of course, people who have already bought my book can get the fifty trillion dollar bookmark and postcards just by emailing me at bucketofface@gmail.com with any kind of proof of purchase. Proof of purchase can be an Amazon receipt, but I'd prefer something more creative. A l...

How to find out about my book without reading anything
While there are a few reviews of and interviews about my book online, some people might want to get an idea of what my book is about without having to read anything. And when you think about it, why should you have to read to read? Reading reviews to find out what books to read is a lot like paying ATM fees. You shouldn't have to pay money to access your money, and you shouldn't have to read to find out what to read.
So here is a podcast of an interview. Like any conversation with me, it...

Upcoming Internet Radio Interview
I've mentioned Eric Mays on this blog before. This Saturday at noon (East Coast time) he will interview me about my book, the Bizarro genre, my beard, and whatever else comes to mind.
If you've ever wondered what it sounds like when two Erics get together and discuss books, you have to hear this webcast. If you have read my book, are dying to hear what my voice sounds like, and are prepared to be disappointed, you probably should listen to this webcast. If you're a fan of Eric Mays and don't c...

2-Minute Drill
The 2-Minute Drill is a series of short interviews by Steve Lowe, the author of Muscle Memory and Wolves Dressed as Men. Essentially, he interviews the authors of books he has read recently and gives them a ridiculous time limit within which to respond to his questions. He interviewed me a couple days ago about Bucket of Face. The interview is up on his blog now.
In the meantime, another blog has reviewed the book.
You might want to take a look at both blogs and see what other books they are ...

Felix and the Sacred Thor
If you're reading this blog, either we used to date (sorry) or you are a fan of fringe fiction (mazel tov). Either way, here's a book that might be relevant to your interests. Felix and the Sacred Thor might be the most underrated Bizarro novel out there right now. Since Bizarro is already fringe, an under-appreciated Bizarro novel is probably exactly what you're looking for. For those of you who are following me on Goodreads, my appreciation of this novel will be old news.
Felix and the...

Eric Mays, Top Bizarro Books of 2010, and The Author Speaks
Eric Mays is an unusual guy. When he sits down to write a Bizarro novel, he first brushes up on his Shakespeare, his Kafka, and his William Burroughs and then comes up with the most literate and intertextual novel Eraserhead Press has released so far, a Bizarro book your English professor would be proud of you for reading, Naked Metamorphosis. This was released last year.
When other new authors would be scrambling to promote their own new books, Mays instead created a blog and a webcast...

New Year's Resolutions
I don't know what chai is and I don't care,
But I won't date another girl who drinks it.
I will not date a woman with a Mac,
Who drives a Beetle, or buys scented candles.
I will not smile at other people's children,
But I will talk with other people's dogs.
I'll smell a drink before I take a sip.
I won't write emails after 10 p.m.
I'll lose ten pounds, three friends, this dead-end job;
Quit drinking every time I'm out of beer;
Stay celibate for most of every day.
I'll lose this list before the ...
