A Sneak Quote

Fifteen Seconds of Normal is all written and on its way to editing perfection :)  Here’s a sneak quote peek at my latest YA novel…and no, that’s not the cover.

Music for Your Daydreams

All my life I’d stay here waiting,

with every new year always making me,

feel as though there was nothing up there but…

one day you came from out of nowhere.”

This track would definitely make the Fifteen Seconds of Normal soundtrack…if of course there were a soundtrack, which would mean there would have to be a movie first, with people like Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort in starring roles, which means I should probably release the book first, which means I should probably stop typing this run-on sentence  and finish editing my final draft :)  Ha ha.

Coming Up, Faith and Culture Writers Portland

Faith and Culture Writers

Spring is right around the corner, and that means it’s time to come out from behind my writing desk to talk to you all. Okay, I  don’t really write at my desk very often anymore, but you know what I mean :)
Next up is the Faith and Culture Writers Conference in Portland, where I’ll be talking about the YA and middle grade market. I’m excited to be part of a great lineup that includes bestselling author of The Shack, William Paul Young and Emmy Award winning writer/producer Dan Merchant.  If you thrive on creativity and want to be inspired, Portland, Oregon is the place to be on the weekend of April 10.  Hope to see you there!
When: April 10-11, 2015
Where: Warner Pacific College, Portland, Oregon

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

WP_20140807_030

Want to be inspired? Travel. I took this shot while at the Orsay Museum in Paris last week. We’d walked for miles in the pouring rain to get there, me complaining because I had no umbrella and was completely soaked, and my daughter’s all giggly and joyful because they love life, whether they are soaked or not.

The museum’s in an old train station, thus the giant clock. While there I instantly recognized it, from Hugo, the  kids book, and movie, by Brian Selznik. I bet you anything, he got the inspiration for his story about an orphan who lives in the walls a Paris train station from this place (see movie photo below).

Interview With I’m Nobody’s Iris Elliott (No she’s not real)

iris character

Iris Elliott, the indie filmmaking fourteen-year-old from I’m Nobody: The Lost Pages by Alex Marestaing, lives and breathes to create. When she’s not posting on YouTube, you’ll find her sketching storyboards for her latest screenplay or clinging for life to some tree branch in order to get the perfect camera angle.  We caught up to her between takes of her latest project, a documentary of agoraphobic Caleb Reed’s life. Read an interview with Iris at Litfuse to learn more about I’m Nobody’s starring character. Just click on the picture below and you’ll be on your way!

I’m Nobody Gets a New Look

Front Kindle Cover

As summer calls and readers everywhere get their beach bags and books ready for vacation, I’m Nobody: The Lost Pages is getting a new look.  The new cover, which shows a video camera toting Iris Elliott looking up at Caleb,  comes just in time for my Litfuse Blog Tour this month.

I wanted the new cover to reflect what’s really resonating with readers, which is the friendships agoraphobic Caleb Reed makes as he steps outside for the first time in seven years.  Though I’m Nobody is suspenseful, even spooky at times (as the last cover showed), it’s ultimately about the healing power of friendship, and how love can overpower fear.

Happy almost summer all!
