I haven't been this touched by a novel in a while. So swift and powerful! And what an ending.

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
“If someone asks you how you are, you are meant to say FINE. You are not meant to say that you cried yourself to sleep last night because you hadn't spoken to another person for two consecutive days. FINE is what you say.”

Simple yet powerful stories. This book is not about storytelling as much as it is about resisting oppression. The writer's story (artist-turned-politician out of desperation and now writing behind bars for his universal values) is by far more importa ...more

I am fascinated by Campbell. He's my prophet and this is a reference book that has to be read more than once.
Pathways to Bliss by Joseph Campbell
"A series of lectures by Campbell on the power of myth for personal transformation. Easy to read, lots to inspire. For many already acquainted with the world of Jung and Campbell and mythological studies, this may not seem deep enough, compared to..." Read more of this review »

“Destination Kampala! Africa’s postcolonial renaissance.” There would have been few other places in the world where there was such an excitement about new literature, new ideas, and new politics. The inspiration arrived at this conference for a new publishing imprint of literary titles called the African Writers Series, which was soon launched by Heinemann in the U.K., with Achebe as the series editor. The excitement reached as far as my high school in Dar, where literary competitions were held, new drama was produced, and a parade of literary luminaries passed through, including Chinua Achebe.”
