Possible Prologue
The media room is buzzing, a chaotic swirl of reporters, cameras, and lights. But I don’t care about any of that. I only care about one person tonight—Gideon King. The six-foot-three, all-muscle goalie who just had the game of his life. A shutout. Again. The man’s practically a brick wall in the net, impossible to break, and everyone knows it. He’s the reason they won, the reason the crowd outside is still roaring.
And the reason I’m here.
The memory of what he did to my best friend burns in my chest. I have to get to him, make him answer for it. So when he walks in—those dark, piercing blue eyes sweeping the room—I feel a surge of adrenaline. This is my moment.
Gideon King is a legend in the NHL, one of the best goalies in the league, and he knows it. He moves like a predator, all slow, deliberate power, and there’s an arrogance in the way he smirks when the first reporter asks about his shutout.
But then someone asks him the question I’ve been waiting for. “You’re 35 now, Gideon. Still single. How come?”
A flicker of something crosses his face before he leans into the mic. “I just haven’t found the right woman yet,” he says smoothly. “I’m not looking for a one-night stand. I want something real, someone I can build a future with.”
A snort escapes me before I can stop it, and every head turns in my direction—including his.
His eyes lock on me, narrowing, the smirk vanishing. “Something funny, Miss…?”
“Harper,” I say, my voice sharper than I intended. “Addison Harper.”
“And what’s so amusing, Addison Harper?”
I stand straighter, meeting his gaze head-on, despite the fact that his eyes seem to be burning through me. “I just find it funny that a guy with a reputation like yours would say something like that.”
His jaw tightens, and suddenly it feels like the room is too small, the air too thick. His eyes stay on me, unmoving, unblinking, and my skin tingles like his gaze alone is setting it on fire. Hmm seems like I hit a nerve!
“You can leave now,” he says, his voice cool, but there’s something darker underneath, something dangerous.
“I’m not going anywhere,” I snap, adrenaline pumping. “I think everyone here deserves to know the truth. That you’re a womanizer, and this whole ‘family man’ act is just that… an act.”
His mouth curves into a smile that’s anything but friendly. “Security, remove her.”
Two large guards step forward, and I brace myself. Oh, hell no. I dig my heels in, but they grab my arms, yanking me toward the door. I struggle, kicking at their shins, but they’re like brick walls.
“You think you can just manhandle me?” I shout, my voice echoing through the hall as they haul me into the hallway. “I’m not done here!”
The guards ignore me, I get my arm free from one, then he elbows me, shoving me roughly toward the wall, hard. The moment my back hits the cold surface, pain flares through my head. I stumble, my vision blurring.
Before I can even comprehend what’s happening, there’s a roar of anger from the other side of me.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Gideon’s voice cuts through the air, sharp and furious.
I blink, trying to clear the fog in my head, and suddenly, he’s there. His body crashes into the guard, slamming him hard against the wall, his face twisted in fury. “I didn’t say hurt her. I said remove her.”
“She deserved it,” the guard growls, but Gideon’s glare could cut steel.
“Where I’m from, men don’t hit women. Especially not women half your size.” His voice is low, lethal, sending shivers down my spine. “You’re fired.”
“You can’t fire me,” the guard spits, but he’s already backing down, the fear clear in his eyes.
Gideon doesn’t even bother responding. His focus shifts back to me, and before I know it, he’s scooping me up in his arms. His touch is electric, sending a wave of heat shooting through my body. My skin tingles everywhere he touches, and despite everything, a traitorous part of me leans into him, craving more.
“What…what are you doing?” I mumble, but my voice sounds weak, breathless.
“You’re coming with me.” His voice is gruff, but there’s a strange gentleness in the way he holds me, like I might break if he isn’t careful. His scent—something fresh, like mint and pine—invades my senses, and I fight the urge to close my eyes and breathe him in.
As he carries me through the hallway, the tension between us coils tight. His arms are strong around me, his chest solid under my cheek, and I swear I can hear his heartbeat. Fast. Like mine.
The elevator doors open, and we’re in his suite before I even realize we’ve moved. It’s large, luxurious, but I barely register the opulence. All I can focus on is the man holding me like I’m something precious, his hands cradling me with surprising tenderness.
He lowers me onto the couch, and for a second, I feel cold without him pressed against me. “Stay here,” he orders, his voice rough as he grabs a towel and some ice from the minibar. The moment he presses the cold pack to my head, I flinch, but his fingers brush my skin, and a jolt of electricity shoots through me.
“You didn’t have to do this,” I whisper, my breath shaky. “I’m fine.”
His eyes flick to mine, and for the first time, I see something other than anger or arrogance in them. Concern. Genuine concern.
“You don’t look fine,” he mutters, his thumb grazing my cheek. The touch is innocent, but it sends sparks racing through my veins, heat pooling low in my belly.
My breath hitches. “I can take care of myself.”
“I don’t doubt that.” His voice drops, low and husky, and his gaze drops to my lips. The air between us feels thick, charged. “But I’m not letting you go just yet.”
“Gideon…” I whisper his name, but before I can finish, his lips are on mine.
It’s like lightning, hot and electrifying. The kiss is hard, demanding, his tongue sweeping into my mouth like he’s claiming me. Every part of me burns with desire, my body responding instinctively to his. I can feel the raw power in the way he holds me, the hunger in every brush of his lips.
I should pull back. I should shove him away. But I can’t. I’m drowning in him, in the way he smells, the way he tastes. Like mint, with a hint of something darker.
When he finally pulls back, we’re both breathing hard. His forehead rests against mine, his breath fanning my lips.
“I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that,” he murmurs, his voice low, rough. But his eyes, dark with want, say something else entirely.
“Agreed,” I whisper, even though my body is screaming for more.
Because despite everything, I know one thing for sure: Gideon King just became my biggest problem. And I’m not sure I want to solve it.

I’d love to hear your thoughts…should I write this book? I’m thinking spicy contemporary romcom. I have a feeling Miss Addison could get herself into a lot of trouble, she seems very capable. Something I believe she would agree with! 😜 Let me know in the comments! Or head over to my FB Reader Group, we would love to have you!

Behind the Scenes: How I Create Chemistry Between Characters
Ever wonder how sizzling chemistry between characters comes to life? It’s not just about the attraction—it’s about the connection. Here’s how I make my couples leap off the page:
1. Their First Interaction Sets the Tone
Whether it’s an awkward first meeting, a fiery argument, or a chance encounter, that initial spark hints at the fire to come. I aim for emotions that feel raw and real.
2. Dialogue is Everything
Banter, teasing, and heartfelt conversations bring characters to life. I want my readers to feel the electricity in every word.
3. Building the Slow Burn
Chemistry doesn’t happen instantly—it’s layered over time. I sprinkle in moments of tension, longing looks, and small gestures that speak louder than words.
4. Letting Them Be Themselves
The best chemistry comes when characters show their vulnerabilities. Whether they’re sharing a secret or comforting each other, these moments make the romance believable.
5. The Big Payoff
When the build-up finally breaks, it has to be worth the wait. I aim for explosive, heart-racing moments that leave both the characters—and the readers—breathless.
