Time for a little tenderness

Last night instead of watching the election’s exit polls, I was writing and watching YouTube videos. I won’t make this post political, but I’ll just say that I hope that both sides work together this time and try to represent the people instead of their party line.

One of the videos I watched last night came because my heroine was hurting and my hero was being tender. I thought listening to the song “Try a Little Tenderness” would help me write the scene. This morning it occurred to me that I’d like the politicians to take the message to heart, too. This scene from the movie Duets shows that if the motivation is strong enough, it can be done.

What this video didn’t show (another video did), was that after the song was over the two cops came up to the singers and said they’d been thinking of doing a duet, but decided they wouldn’t be near as good as the other two.

Wouldn’t you love it if our politicians were that good? And what song would you pick for the next four years?

One More Dog in Heaven

Rose the Beagle

We had to put Rose, our 19-year-old Beagle, to sleep yesterday. It was a bad week for us, knowing it was coming. Her appetite and personality were still strong until the end. The rest of her body wasn’t faring as well. We buried her in the backyard and there was a lot of crying. As I write this, I’m crying again. This morning I started to feed her before our other dog, though I knew she was gone. It’s the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning. And it feels funny to be writing in my office without her rhythmic snoring behind me.

We inherited Rose 2 1/2 years ago, after my father-in-law passed. My mother-in-law had passed about 7 years earlier, and she adored Rose. My father-in-law didn’t adore Rose, but he loved her and was good to her. I like to imagine that she’s with them in Heaven right now and they’re all happy.

I feel blessed that we had her these last 2 1/2 years. My only regret is that we didn’t have her as a puppy, too. She was a very good dog.

Miracle Wednesday

There are miracles all around us. Dancing is a miracle. On last season’s So You Think You Can Dance, one contestant’s mother said that he was having a lot of trouble at school, and after he discovered dancing and focused on it, he told her dancing saved his life. I bet many singers can say the same. Just as I’m sure music and songs have saved listeners’ lives. I recovered from an operation by listening to favorite CDs, over and over.

Reading is a miracle. I can remember the first time I went to the library. It seemed like one of the most wondrous places in the world. And now I have a Kindle and can upload books straight to it. Do you think you could have imagined that ten years ago? It would have seemed like a miracle.

And Halloween. Going to strangers’ houses and they greet you by giving you candy. Isn’t that a miracle?

You experience miracles every day because you expect them. Just like my dogs and cat expect me to feed and love them.

Expectation – believing it will happen to you – is a big part of that miracle coming straight to you.

Just a note to let you know the Miracle Mail newsletter is delayed. I’ll probably start it sending it early in 2013. For now, I’ll have Miracle Wednesdays here. If you haven’t signed up for the Miracle Mail newsletter, please do so, and you’ll be on my list when it begins again.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

The Good and The Bad

My best news, writing wise, is that I’m more than halfway done with my first draft of MIRACLE PIE. So far I’m loving it, yet I worry about it, the same as I do with every book I write. But now that I know I worry, I don’t worry as much. (There must be a cat cartoon to go with that, but I don’t have time to look for it.) My other news is that I finally sent out my newsletter. The last one I sent out was last December. Since then I published a novella and two books in my Miracle Interrupted series. I hope to have another book out in December, though it might be January.

I also got a little sidetracked with my Miracle Mail newsletters. I ended up sending only one out. I had two reasons. First, I was revising and publishing MIRACLE LANE. That’s always my first priority (besides family and friends; yes, pets too, but they’re family). Second, I found out my newsletters are going straight to spam. I have no idea why that happened. I only send to subscribers, plus the emails have an easy unsubscribe. I’m offering a free book to my newsletter subscribers, so if you’re on the list, I hope you’ll check out your spam folder and mark my newsletter as not spam.

For now, I’m sending my newsletters for my books out and hope some people look at their spam before they automatically delete. (I do!) But for my Miracle Mail newsletter, I decided to just put it on my blog every week for now. I’ll start this next week. Later, I might send a weekly Miracle Mail message again. I could even do it with my regular email.

So, do you want to share your good or your bad news?

Miracle Lane and Free Stuff!

MIRACLE LANE is available! The digital version is available at most places. You can see the links here, along with the excerpt and the blurb. I’m so excited and happy about this series. I’m halfway through the next book, MIRACLE PIE, which I love even more. My main character is a pie maker who puts love into her pies. I feel I’m putting love into my Miracle Interrupted books.

More news. I’m on Jennifer Estep’s blog, talking about yum-yum love. I’m giving away an e-copy of STARDUST MIRACLE, but if you’re the winner and you already read it, I’ll be happy to give an e-copy of MIRACLE LANE instead.

Yet more news. Debut author Eliza Daly is on Magical Musings talking about spells that change your life and wondering if it’s a good idea to use the spells. I said I’d use them.  Would you? Let Beth know, and you might win one of her great prizes, including gift certificates.

I hope you have a great week!

Entangled Update & My Story

Jennifer Estep posted an awesome update about the ENTANGLED anthology, with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. If you get a chance to read it, please do. I’ve shared her information on Twitter and Facebook, in case you’d like to share as well. Since this is Breast Cancer Awareness month, it’s a small step for womankind. (Corny, but couldn’t resist.)

I’m also talking about my writing journey and the fire in my soul at Magical Musings.

Other than that, the Packers won last night, we had much needed rain, and I should have MIRACLE LANE available this week. It’s a good month for me. I hope it is for you, too.

Miracle Mail for You!

Life is a series of little miracles. These miracles happen all the time – but if you’re not looking, they zip right by you. The more you pay attention, the easier to spot the ones meant for you before they pass you by.
Do it! Miracles look fabulous on you.

*****

I’m writing the third novel of my Miracle Interrupted series. Each book is about different characters in a small Wisconsin village, and each miracle is different … and at first might not even seem like a miracle. Writing these books has made me more attuned to the positive. So much of life is a miracle.

This has inspired me to send out a Miracle Message every week. You can get your weekly message by clicking the square box next to Miracle Mail above the Follow Me icons on the the right column. Starting next week, your Miracle Mail will come straight to your email.

In the meantime, Happy Miracles!

Waterbed Prank

My son forwarded this to me in an email. I laughed so hard I cried. It’s about a waterbed in a German store, with a sign that tells people NOT to get on the bed. You can see for yourself how that works. Enjoy!
