Featured Author over at Opening Line Literary magazine
Hi folks
Just to say how happy I am to be the featured author for December, discussing the topic of Winter Spirit. Fortunately that ties in rather nicely with my new release, The Christmas Spirit. I'm talking elves, The Grinch, what makes Christmas for me and where I'd love to spend it, amongst other things!

My first reviews for The Christmas Spirit!
Morning again folks. Just wanted to share a few of the first reviews which have come in for The Christmas Spirit. I have to say, getting good reviews from readers validates what I am doing and puts a huge smile on my chops!
In short, it makes my day!
Here they are:-
All things nice (5 stars)
A very sweet story to kick off the holiday season. Nice to see how Natalie Hope brought her Christmas spirit to town. A great view into the lives of several characters in this small town. If you like Alexander McCall Smith's Edinburgh-based stories, you'll love Susan's stories too
Get your lattes and your cakes ready first - (4 stars)
...... because this cosy little Christmas story will make you wish you had them within easy reach if you haven't!
As in The Dating Game, Susan Buchanan's `foodie' orientation is very apparent in her Christmas novella set in a bakery/cafe, so it will appeal to anyone who likes to salivate over descriptions of carrot cake, cupcakes, stuff with bits of marshmallow and chocolate in, and all the rest. It's very much a fantasy tale, in the spirit of the season; what a shame there is nowhere like the Sugar and Spice Café in real life - where your average young woman eats cakes every day ('go on, I'll have one to take home, too!') without concern for her weight!
If you like a pleasant, easy read with lots of nice things happening to good people, and those who've had a bit of a rum deal suddenly getting some good luck, then this is the story for you. The main characters are Stanley the endearing pensioner, a despotic boss called Meredith and her put-upon assistant, Sophie; Jacob the terminally unemployed, and Rebecca - dumped by her boyfriend, and homeless. And then, of course, there's Natalie Hope....
Happy Christmas - and I MUST have one of those snow globes.....
and finally, another 5 stars - full of sugar and spice and all things nice
The Christmas spirit is a lovely heart warming story revolving round Natalie Hope who breezes into the sugar and spice bakery in winstanton. on Dec 1st totally turning around the lives of the residents. Serving the townsfolk coffees and cake she helps Jacob who is jobless and in desperate need of work. Stanley an elderly man heartbroken after losing his beloved wife. Meredith a workaholic whose life is purely work and Sophie her long suffering assistant and Rebecca whose relationship has ended. Its a story of life of love and hope, Christmas spirit. and cakes. This a book you will most definitely have to have a coffee and a piece of cake whilst reading. ive absolutely loved reading this book and looking forward reading more by this author.
And remember if you haven't picked up your copy yet - here's how
Amazon UK - http://amzn.to/1ewbuRY - £1.53
Amazon US - http://amzn.to/1dFw0TJ - $2.99
Christmas is coming, but not everyone is looking forward to it.
Rebecca has just been dumped and the prospect of spending the holiday period with her parents is less than appealing.
Eighty- two year old Stanley lost his beloved wife, Edie, to cancer. How will he cope with his first Christmas without her?
Jacob’s university degree hasn’t helped him get a job, and it looks like he’ll still be signing on come New Year.
Workaholic Meredith would rather spend December 25th at home alone with a ready meal and a DVD box set. Can anything make her embrace the spirit of the season?
The enigmatic Natalie Hope takes over the reins at the Sugar and Spice bakery and café in an attempt to spread some festive cheer and restore Christmas spirit, but will she succeed?
More later, just catching up after the launch - still!

Competition Number Three - The Christmas Spirit Launch
Hi everyone. Here's the third and final comp. Plenty of interest in the comps across FB, Twitter and here. So glad you are enjoying them.
I would just like to mention that the winner of the first competition and who will now be included in the Amazon voucher draw is Toni L from Canada - I was really touched by her story about her mom in the ICU.
Now some of you may know I am no baker, and you might find it surprising that I set The Christmas Spirit principally in a bakery and café. As I like to say, I know how to eat cakes, not make them!
So, tell me, are you a master baker, have you had any roaring successes and with what? Have they gone down a treat? Or, like mine, do your scones never rise? Are they the consistency of putty? I've made a rhubarb crumble and a bramble crumble in my whole life - brambles are blackberries to non-Scots! Or do you have a baking or culinary disaster you can share? (If we're talking culinary and not just baking, mine run to pages!)
Just jot down your story, add your country and email address and I will pick a winner for the draw at some point on Wed.
And remember, if you've bought a copy of The Christmas Spirit, PLEASE send me your Amazon invoice to soozbuch@gmail.com if you want to be entered into the Amazon voucher draw. I'll be drawing this on Wed morning. Please also delete any personal details, eg address from the invoice.
If you haven't picked up your copy yet - get yourself in the Christmas spirit - the story itself starts on 1st Dec, so you better hurry as you're now playing catch up!
Here are the Amazon buy links -

Good luck!
