13 Days of Christmas Begins Tomorrow at Musa Publishing!
What if your favorite neighborhood bookstore told you to come on in and pick up three free books a day for the next thirteen days? I know I’d be there. Tomorrow, December 13th, marks the first day of Musa Publishing‘s 13 Days of Christmas promotion, so mark your calendar! Yes, I will be participating by giving away one of my fantasy books on December 14th, but no fair peeking ahead of time. Why would a publisher give away books–many of which are award-winning bestsellers? Musa wants readers to know how awesome their titles are, to show off the breadth of their genres, and to get people talking about them! As for me, the book I’ll be giving away has only (as of this moment) 27 reviews on Amazon, and I’m looking for more reviews from enthusiastic readers. So stay tuned for the 13 Days of Christmas. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! ~ S.G. Rogers

Blurb: Young Prince Lee can’t talk to girls at all until he meets Jona Haever. His aunt, Queen Gaia, invites Jona to the castle for the summer to help Lee learn social graces. Although Her Majesty makes it clear Jona is no better than a servant, Jona and Lee become best friends. When the summer comes to a close, the two continue to correspond through a pair of magical boxes conjured by the Wizard Farland. Nine years later, Jona and Lee are closer than ever, but any romantic feelings between them are forbidden by law. Are the differences between a prince and a commoner too large to overcome, or are they just a matter of magical misperception?
Excerpt:
On the final day of the term, a fancy horse-drawn carriage waited in front of the school, flying the royal flag of Meridian. Rumors and speculation about an illustrious visitor ran rampant through the school halls. Just after the beginning bell rang, however, a note was delivered to Jona’s teacher. He read it over to himself before announcing its contents.
“Jona Haever? You’re wanted in the headmaster’s office.”
The blood left her face, and everyone turned to stare.
“What did you do?” Catrina whispered.
Beyond dismayed, Jona could only shake her head. Some of her friends gave her sympathetic smiles as she stood and walked down the aisle, but Quinton smirked and stuck his foot out to trip her. Jona smirked back and stomped on it.
“Oops, sorry,” she said.
His howl of pain was scant satisfaction as she trudged through the door and down the hall to meet her doom. She’d only been called to Mr. Widgette’s office once before, when she’d accidentally-on-purpose poured ink down Chet Bettle’s pants for calling Holly stuck-up. If she’d somehow managed to get expelled on the last day of school, her mother was not going to be pleased.
When she entered the headmaster’s office, Mr. Widgette rose from behind his desk.
“Thank you for coming, Jona. A special guest has come to our school.”
She noticed a strange little man sitting in a corner chair, dressed in an expensive suit.
“This is Mr. Phipps,” the headmaster continued, “Her Majesty’s representative.”
Proper etiquette demanded she acknowledge the man in some fashion, so Jona gave him a wobbling curtsy. Then, feeling foolish, she wondered if she ought to have offered him her hand instead.
“Jona, Mr. Phipps would like to have a word with you,” Mr. Widgette said.
In the silence that followed, she waited for someone to start laughing and let her in on the joke, but nobody did.

In the silence that followed, she waited for someone to start laughing and let her in on the joke, but nobody did. Instead, the strange man leaned forward, fixing her with his oddly piercing gaze. “Miss Haever, Mr. Widgette tells me your parents own a tea shop?”
She was bewildered. “Yes, that’s right. They also sell coffee.”
Mr. Phipps’ smile was reassuring. “I’m sure their tea and coffee are splendid. Queen Gaia would consider it a personal favor if you would live at the palace for the summer and assist her in a matter of some delicacy. In return, you would be paid a salary, and your parents’ tea shop would be awarded the royal seal of approval.”
A relieved grin spread across Jona’s features. “That’s very generous, sir, but I think you must be looking for my sister, Holly. I’ll go fetch her if you’d like.”
“No, Her Majesty is most definitely looking for you, Miss Jona Haever,” Mr. Phipps said. “Mr. Widgette has agreed to release you from school this morning. If you would be so kind as to accompany me in my carriage, we’ll drive to the Haever Tea Shop and discuss the matter with your parents.”
Her eyes swiveled toward the headmaster, who nodded. “Go gather your things, Jona. It seems your summer vacation begins a little early this year.”

Peering into the Future
It’s hard to believe that the end is near. 2014 is rapidly coming to a close, and I thought I would share my upcoming schedule. Very soon, I’m going to be re-releasing a magical fairytale originally published in 2012 by MuseItUp Publishing. When I got the rights back to this short story, I added another 4K words, and gave it a new title and cover. This fairytale, which comes complete with a fairy godfather, was well-received the first time, despite its short length. I hope people will enjoy the new, longer version as much. Want a sneak peek?

So, what else is coming down the pike? I think I can safely say that 2015 will be the year of the sequel and prequel. Right now, I’m bouncing back and forth between writing A Gift for Fiona (sequel to A Gift for Lara), and The Ice Captain (prequel to The Ice Captain’s Daughter). Also under development are two sequels to Ruse & Romance and Larken. I’ll be getting the rights back to a few other titles in 2015, so I’ll be rewriting and repackaging those, too. In addition, I have some new stories to tell, and will work those in as time permits. Thanks for sticking with me, and I think the best is yet to come. ~ S.G. Rogers

Excerpt from KIRA
Originally posted on Child of Yden:
On her way back to the Nomad encampment, Kira spied several young men in a clearing, laughing and talking as they tossed knives at a target. Her stomach contracted when she noticed a shock of blond hair; the young warrior Reye was among the group. His handsome face and athletic frame had earned him a reputation among Nomad women as a desirable marriage partner…yet he continued to elude capture. At only fifteen turns of age, Kira was still too young to contemplate marriage, but privately she’d admired Reye along with the rest. She’d had few opportunities to talk with him, but now was her opening. Her fingers itched to best the lads at target practice and socialize with Reye at the same time. As soon as she stepped toward the clearing, however, a fragment of conversation made her pause.
“So Reye, which girl are you escorting to Kysandra’s party?”
“Must…
