Duke of a Gilded Age Kindle Countdown Deal!

DOGAcoveridea5When American-born Wesley Parker inherits a dukedom in 1890, he must learn to be an aristocrat. Assigned to the task is his attorneys daughter, prim Belle Oakhurst. As they travel to England together on a luxurious ocean liner, their tempestuous relationship encounters more than rough seas. Although Wesley is increasingly attracted to Belle, she is already engaged. While Belle begins to regret her hasty promise to marry, she is bound by honor and duty to keep her pledge. Furthermore, a thoughtless fabrication on her part threatens to expose her as a liar. Neither Wesley nor Belle can foresee that their voyage across the Atlantic will be fraught with peril, and will cost more than one man his life.

What reviewers are saying:

“The real success comes from the author’s grasp of human desires. Is there really anyone who has not wished they were a princess or duke with wealth and power? Rogers tapped into that common human trait and produced an uncommonly fun and well-written novel.” – Historical Novel Society

Top Pick at The Romance Reviews! “There is unrequited love, really bad fellows to fight, and excellent balls and proposals. It’s a feast,” says TRR reviewer Linda Hays-Gibbs. “I gave it five stars and believe everyone will enjoy this adventuresome tale of escapades and love. It is sure to inspire.”

Sunday Freebie • A Gift for Fiona

AG4FcoverFriday the 13th may be a recent memory, but you’re still in luck! Today you can download A Gift for Fiona, absolutely free!

Here’s the blurb:

With one sister married and another soon to be engaged, Fiona Robinson worries she’ll be on the shelf. She pins her hopes on a handsome viscount, but his unexpected proposal to another girl hands her a stinging and demoralizing defeat. A new acquaintance awakens all her senses—until she realizes he’s related to the girl who stole her beau. On the heels of her public humiliation, should Fiona instead consider marriage to a much older man whom she could never love?

Fiona’s unconventional, earthy looks and mischievous personality appeal to Rory Braithwaite much more than any other woman he’s ever met. Unfortunately, his sister has been the means of ruining Fiona’s happiness. Can he convince Fiona of his sincerity before she makes a mistake she’ll regret for the rest of her life…and his?

Go HERE for your free copy, and enjoy! ~ S.G. Rogers

P.S. Lovely reviews are always welcome!

THEICECAPTAINSDAUGHTER2The Ice Captain’s Daughter (book version ~ 118 pages; audiobook version runs 3 hours and 45 minutes)

The daughter of a wealthy ice merchant, Miss Jillian Roring intends to marry for love. En route to her first season in London, however, a failed kidnapping sends her into the arms of the most jaded bachelor in England. When Logan and Jillian unwittingly violate the rigid rules of propriety in Victorian-era England, he is obliged to make her an offer of marriage. Because she aspires to be more than an obligation, Jillian refuses the match. Logan follows her to London to woo her properly, but his scheming ex-fiance has other plans.

Can Logan convince Jillian that his love for her is real or will the cruel gossip and sharp tongues of London society tear their budding relationship apart?

A romantic Victorian-era novella set in 1899, England.pagebreak

LASTMagicalMisperceptionCoverMagical Misperception (~ 63 pages)

Young Prince Lee can’t talk to girls at all until he meets Jona Haever. His aunt, Queen Gaia, invites Jona to the castle for the summer to help Lee learn social graces. Although Her Majesty makes it clear Jona is no better than a servant, Jona and Lee become best friends. When the summer comes to a close, the two continue to correspond through a pair of magical boxes conjured by the Wizard Farland. Nine years later, Jona and Lee are closer than ever, but any romantic feelings between them are forbidden by law. Are the differences between a prince and a commoner too large to overcome, or are they just a matter of magical misperception?

Hopelessly romantic. Exquisitely magical.

Do You KU?

PhotoFunia-30586c_oThat’s Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program, of course. For about $10 a month, you have an all-you-can-read option, choosing to borrow from 700,000 titles and thousands of audiobooks.

Even though there’s a 30-day free trial, I still haven’t done it. The Scotswoman in me is reluctant to stand the expense, although I can see the benefit. If you read more than three or four books a month, the membership would certainly pay for itself. On the other hand, not all authors participate in the program, so a reader’s choices are curtailed. Do you KU? If so, how do you like your membership so far?

As an author, I like the idea, and I’ve enrolled all my private label titles in the program. Many bestselling authors don’t believe they are compensated appropriately for their work, however, and I can see their point. Certainly, if an author can command $9.99 for one of his or her books, said author wouldn’t be happy being compensated little over a dollar for a KU borrow. Therefore, many authors choose not to participate, or curtail their participation to one three-month cycle.

For an author at my level, it’s not a bad deal, especially since I have several novellas on my list. For example, the royalty on a 99 cent novella is about 34 cents, so I’d rather someone borrow the title than buy it. In addition, I believe readers are more willing to give new authors a chance if their books are included in the membership. Some of my full-length titles are in the program, too. Perhaps I would earn more selling those books than lending them out, but I’d rather have them read than not.

I’d love to hear your comments. As a reader, do you KU or are you considering it? As an author, do you feel the program has helped or hindered your career? Let’s talk amongst ourselves. ~ S.G. Rogers
