Hello and thanks for stopping in. A bit about me... I am an engineer, an outdoor enthusiast, and a weaver of tales that often end in wondrous, explosive mayhem. I'm what I like to call a 'Texafornian.' Born in Texas, raised in California, but I moved back to Texas about 20 years ago and here I am to this day.

When I'm not writing, I'm reading. Fantasy, science fiction, and historical fiction are the genres I love. I won't finish a book that isn't grabbing me and I'm generally not shy about saying so here on Goodreads. I guess you could say that when I'm reading, I'm in full-blown reader mode; I hold other authors to the same standard you do, meaning I demand quality and that a book draw me into it. I fully believe that life is too sho

Hi Lope,

Your English is better than my Spanish, so no problem!

Funny you should ask that because I was considering the possibility just the other day. I'd actually thought about it before, way back when I plotted The Five Elements, but the chance for Aaron to receive that kind of instruction never arose in that first book. However, the way things are left in the second book, Aaron and Ensel Rhe are in a situation where they're going to need to rely on each other more than ever before. Aaron, of course, has already had to lean on Ensel Rhe for his survival, but that was under violent circumstances, where the eslar does his best work. Now, they're in a situation where Aaron's skills can really shine. It's a place where Ensel Rhe is clearly out of his league, so he'll have to rely on Aaron to help his cause against his enemies.

However, back to your question: Yes, there is the possibility. Aaron lacks a certain physical prowess. He's a thinker. I don't think he'll ever become as good of a fighter as Ensel Rhe, Gerwyn, or even Jakinda Rhe, but he's a quick study and he has an unparalleled will. He's once more in a situation where physical action may be needed, so it's to his benefit to learn how to defend himself, if nothing else.

I hope that answers your question! Thanks for asking it and stay tuned for book 3.

I do believe authors (myself included) can sometimes procrastinate or become easily distracted, which can slow or prevent work from getting done, but I don't believe a writer's well of ideas can simply run dry. I do get stumped sometimes, meaning I'm not sure where to take something. But that's where outlining can really help. I outline everything before I write it. Not every single detail, but enough that I always know where a story is going. I've always felt it's better to work things out in an informal outline than when I'm actually writing, because spending too much time running down an avenue which leads to nothing but a dead end means wasted words, wasted time, and wasted effort.(less)

Penric’s Demon by Lois McMaster Bujold is the first in a series about Penric and the demon, Desdemona. The novella is short (as befits a novella), coming in at 109 pages, making it a fairly quick read with a fairly linear storyline. It’s somewhat of a classic fantasy read, set in a world and with many characters whom we only get t...

Scott Marlowe Quick writing update: Thief's Gambit should be back from my last proofreader today, so well ahead of the 3/10/15 release date. Meanwhile, I finished outlining the next story in the series the other day and started the writing this morning. Not sure on length at this point. Even with an outline, these things can take on a life of their own.
