Jennifer-Crystal Johnson is originally from Germany, but was raised all over. She has published one novella under her former last name, The Outside Girl: Perception is Reality (Publish America, 2005) and, more recently, a poetry book, Napkin Poetry (Broken Publications, 2010). One of her short stories, The Clinic, has recently been featured on Jack Meets Jill (dot net) and her poetry has appeared in various anthologies including The Lightness of Being (International Library of Poetry, 2000), Theatre of the Mind (Noble House, 2003), Invoking the Muse (Noble House, 2004), and Our 100 Most Famous Poets (Famous Poets Press, 2004). Writer's block can be tricky... especially when you sit down at a designated time to write and inspiration just doesn't want to come out of hiding for you.

I have a few suggestions as far as what to do when writer's block rears its ugly head:

- Write anyway. Do a free-write for ten minutes or seek out some writing exercises. Sometimes it's just about getting the creative juices flowing and taking in information to spark it.

- Read. Something fictional, something inspirational, some poetry... anything! Whatever you enjoy or whatever kind of mood you're in, read. It helps to exercise your entire brain and might just ignite an idea or three.

- Do something that has absolutely nothing to do with writing. I like to listen to loud music and clean when I'm sick of staring at a computer screen. It helps keep me a little more active as well as giving me something mindless to do so I can let my thoughts wander =).

Those are some of the tricks I use when I'm uninspired to write. Although it isn't for everyone, freelance writing and blogging is a good way to teach yourself to write on command... plus earn a little extra cash =).

Hope this helps!

Though my ideas are generally plot-based, I find that I also get involved with my characters and care about the crazy situations they find themselves in.(less)

Some Thoughts About Eternity, the Soul, and Our Vehicles (Meat Suits/Vessels)

Picture When I was younger, I had an incredibly spiritual experience after consuming an entire bottle of Robitussin (I do NOT recommend this, btw... it was extremely overwhelming and strange and unbalanced overall). As I fell asleep, my dreams in my subconscious mind continued to be influenced by this substance, though most of it had worn off already. Here's what happened. I was floating around in spac Read more of this blog post »

“In school we learn that mistakes are bad, and we are punished for making them. Yet, if you look at the way humans are designed to learn, we learn by making mistakes. We learn to walk by falling down. If we never fell down, we would never walk.”
