Lock up the cows and load up the guns! "Rooted" is officially released!

Like caterpillar to butterfly, seed to flower, Bruce to Caitlyn,  "Rooted" has officially transformed from pre-sale to for sale in the course of a night. To the massive hordes daring enough to have already purchased "Rooted", I thank you kindly. Just know the connection we now share is thicker than blood and just as sticky.

For those living under a rock for the past few months, let me shine some light your way. Here's what you need to know about this most audacious story:

Rooted: Washed up, str...

Introducing Slade Mortimer: The Roaming Mortician

He lay on the couch, semiconscious and unmoving. If he wanted to, he could probably open his eyes. If he wanted to, he could probably sit up and find out where he was. But he didn’t want to.

He heard his name whispered softly and earnestly, “Slade Mortimer.” Barely cracking his eyes open, he saw two shaking hands holding a piece of paper near him.

When the face leaned close he saw that it was an old woman. He held his breath, tightened his lids and drifted. It was good to lie there, good to hav...

Introducing Sarah Jane McQuiston: A Ruined Girl

Sarah Jane sat beneath the window in the same shorts and shirt she’d worn the day before and had slept in. She pushed a tangled mass of dirty-blonde hair from her face absently, hardly breathing. They were all talking about her, not just her family but the entire town. That others could see her, when she seemed so unreal to herself, still shocked her.

She listened to the soft crunching sound of gravel beneath tires, the low rumble of Grover’s Ford slowly growing fainter. When all evidence of h...

This Hungarian Book Reviewer Really Knows Her Business

Rooted continues to conquer worldwide literary waters! Gabriela (a Goodreads librarian and book reviewer from Hungary who knows her business) of Chicachiflada Books had THIS to say:

Rooted: This book was really something different! I got into it fairly quickly and was surprised by the pace and style drawing me in, despite the unnatural melange of characters, happenings, family ties refinding their purpose and connections. The mix and match of language and story is unforgettable, pretty origin...

Introducing Grover McQuiston: The Root

It all comes from the root. And Grover McQuiston was the root of it all.

 “Watkins.”

Grover’s steely voice cut through the bank like a guillotine. He didn’t raise his voice, he didn’t have to. The one word stopped Sheriff Watkins in his tracks, and then sent him straight to the bank president’s office.

“Yes, sir.” Slump-shouldered and head down, Watkins gripped his sheriff’s hat tightly in both hands, his sandy blonde hair disheveled on his hatless head. “What’s going on out there?” Grover deman...

Things Are A'poppin': Interviews, Features and Sample Chapters Galore

All in all a fruitful day. Completed the first Rooted interview today with the New York Times, or maybe it was Bartlett Express. Yeah, more like Bartlett Express. I believe the interview went well and am eager to see the final printed version. This interview should be published within the next two weeks. I'll post an update on publish date when I have a better idea.

Also this day, I was asked to write a feature story for TripFiction based on the following two sentence description of Rooted's s...

Rooted Now An International Sensation!

At least to Louise in the UK. Having read an advanced copy, she gave Rooted four stars on Goodreads and had this to say:

This is a bit of a family reunion you don't want to miss. Though the head of the family, Grover, isn't even admitting half the people are his family. Going from seedy punk New York, (and bringing a bit of it with them ) to the not so quiet country down South, there's a lot going on in this book. There are constantly revelations about who did what and why. Enjoyable, slightly...

Rooted: A Novel by Idabel Allen now available for pre-order on Amazon

Just when you thought it was safe, Idabel Allen has reared her Medusa-like head to bring you her first novel, Rooted. This book has been sitting with a New York City literary agent for many years, all the while begging to see the light of day. So it is great joy and trepidation that I submit this neglected child for your consideration from Lowbrow Literary Press.

The release date for Rooted is May 2nd, but you can pre-order an ebook copy from Amazon now (I strongly suggest doing so). Rooted wi...
