Albert Einstein on Interconnectedness

Rick’s Picks is a series of posts highlighting the very best content online.

“We must mend what has been torn apart, make justice imaginable again in a world so obviously unjust, give happiness a meaning once more,” Albert Camus wrote in reflecting on strength of character in turbulent times as WWII’s maelstrom of deadly injustice engulfed Europe. But that mending is patient, steadfast, often unglamorous work — it is the work of choosing kindness over fear, again and again, in the smallest o...

Make Good Bargains

Is it worth it?

The Practice:
Make good bargains.

Why?

Life is full of tradeoffs between benefits and costs.

Sometimes, the benefits are worth the costs. Draymond Green Gets Real

Rick’s Picks is a series of posts highlighting the very best content online.

In the context of professional sports and Draymond Green’s intense competitiveness (and related issues), I found this clip to be quite touching – and you might, too – after the Golden State Warriors won the NBA championship.

This is a great example of Aspiring Without Attachment, too!

Speak Wisely

What are you saying?

The Practice:
Speak wisely.

Why?

“Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

Ah, not really.

Often it’s words – and the tone that comes with them – that actually do the most damage. Just think back on some of the things that have been said to you over the years – especially those said with criticism, derision, shaming, anger, rejection, or scorn – and the impacts they’ve had on your feelings, hopes and ambitions, and sense of yourself.

Words can...

A Rock Climbers Inner Strength

Rick’s Picks is a series of posts highlighting the very best content online.

“[Alex] also has this capacity to compartmentalize fear, to rationalize it. His brain is so powerful that if a thought or feeling is not serving him he can put it away.”

The ability to acknowledge threats or fears, without letting them hijack you, is an important inner strength. Start growing this skill, along with many others, with my weekly practices. Read the story here.
