Immortal Storm update....

By now, many of you know that the Judas Chronicles are set to resume, with Immortal Storm (Book 9) planned for release sometime in the next four to five months. :-) The research is now complete for the story that not only will deal with a blood coin that was missed by Judas/William in his efforts to collect all thirty, but also will set the stage for a three-book mini series (Books 10 through 12). Those boos will deal with an even greater menace (based on a Sci-Fi trilogy idea that Fiona and I had originally planned as a separate entity, and that fits in very well with Roderick's continuation of the immortal storyline).

The plotting for the story has officially begun today, and while some authors can fly through that aspect, for me it is a slower process--much like interior design work or a complete makeover for one's home.... Lots of trying out different ideas in various places, before coming up with a unified scheme that works well--which has been my method for plot creation since Fiona and I began work on "Toxicity" three years ago. Since it seemed to work well for "Immortal Supremacy", too, I will stick with it for this latest chapter in The Judas Chronicles.

I can tell you that the ideas are rolling in, and I am truly excited about this new adventure. More to come in the months that follow, and with any luck, Immortal Storm might well be ready before Christmas. :-)

All the best, my friends! ~ Aiden

Huntress Review's take on They Fought Like Men

Fiona and I received a wonderful review this week from renowned Huntress Reviews--check it out below, my friends. :-)

***** FIVE STARS! Aiden James and Fiona Fraser prove to be a formidable writing team in this incisive story about the women in history who have pretended to be men in order to serve in the military. This writing duo brought the war to life in vivid detail for me as I viewed the men fighting battles in egregious conditions and the women who have to deal with the same, as well as to keep their genders secret.

The story begins in the year 1862 and ends with the war. (Not including the Epilogue.) Women fighting in the war was unheard of and those caught faced charges, humiliation, and/or a fate worse than death. The tale swaps between the views of Hattie and her husband, Jonas, both serving in different places. Both fighting in hopes of seeing each other again someday. This fictional piece of history kept me glued to my seat as I eagerly anticipated what would come next. Totally riveting! *****

An excerpt from "They Fought Like Men"

....Hattie leaned back against the tree, glaring at this impudent woman… this Lucinda. The soldier’s one-week presence in her life had hampered the already difficult adjustment from orphaned daughter and possible widow to infantryman. Her gut told her things could get even worse if she cooperated… or perhaps better? There was no way to know for certain.

“Ah, I do believe I’ve hit a nerve in that regard. So, is it the name of your pa? Maybe it’s a brother, or a cousin or uncle? After all, it sounded kind of true when you said your cousin was Billy’s pal, Ezekiel. Maybe you’re his kid sister, instead, with a name like Harriet, Hazel, Helen, or—”

“Hattie!” she blurted out in a hissed whisper, stopping herself from saying anything else to avoid an emotional deluge of tears threatening to follow. She bit her tongue and waited for the painful surge to retreat before going on. “Hattie Grey…. Are you satisfied?”

The soldier she now knew as Lucinda, and not Louis, Templeton laughed and shook her head.

“Satisfied? Ah, hell no!” She smiled roguishly. “But it’s a start…. For the time bein’, you don’t make life uncomfortable for me, and I’ll do the same for you, Hattie Grey.”

They Fought Like Men

"Yes, danger… but also freedom once they see me as a man!"

The thought became a silent mantra as she guided Elsie to a vacant post and stepped down, mindful to do it like her beloved Papa would. As she secured Elsie’s reins, Hattie pushed the thought of her father from her mind. This couldn’t be the place for tears. Then with chin up and the fire of Yankee hatred flowing through her entire being, she walked resolutely to the saloon’s entrance, pausing only to quietly nod to the men who eyed her with some amusement.

She stepped inside… ready to fully embrace anything and everything that came her way as Mr. Henry Grey.

They Fought Like Men is available on Amazon

....With bayonets and swords drawn, Rebels and Yankees embraced one another in a deadly dance to determine which army would give ground first. Their gleaming blades glistened beneath an impartial sun, which seemed all the more determined to flee the summer sky and avoid witnessing the carnage wrought by each army’s embittered hatred toward the other.
