Best-selling and award winning author Judy Pearson’s career began in a tree: a wonderful old maple in her parents’ backyard, with a perfect branch on which to sit and write. Now hundreds of thousands of words later, this Michigan native’s voice is still inspiring!

Judy is a graduate of Michigan State University and has newspaper, magazine, online articles, and four books to her credit. She is also a much-requested presenter and speaker. But her favorite title is “story teller,” as exemplified by the biographies she writes. Her second, WOLVES AT THE DOOR: THE TRUE STORY OF AMERICA'S GREATEST FEMALE SPY, is not only a best-seller, but has been purchased for a movie.

I'm blessed to rarely be stricken by writers block, but when I do, I move away from that part of my book, and either delve into a different section, or research something else. It's almost like being better able to see stars when you DON'T stare at them, but rather see them with your peripheral vision.

One more tidbit - never be afraid to reach out to authors you admire. Ask them questions (without being a pest of course). There were so many seasoned professionals who never hesitated to give me a hand when I was starting. Literary generosity is #1 on my to do list!(less)

“President Grover Cleveland issued an executive order in 1895 regarding entrance to the Foreign Service. Potential candidates were required to pass two examinations, one written and the other oral, to measure an applicant’s knowledge and understanding on a range of subjects deemed necessary for the position. The written examination included essay questions about international law, arithmetic, modern history, resources and commerce of the United States, political and commercial geography, political economy, and American history and institutions.”
Judith L. Pearson, The Wolves at the Door: The True Story of America's Greatest Female Spy

“The oral examination was given in two parts. The first required that the candidate demonstrate a proficiency in a chosen foreign language and was scored in an objective manner. The second portion gave the State Department the opportunity to judge the applicant’s ability to think on her feet. These answers by their very nature were highly subjective.”
Judith L. Pearson, The Wolves at the Door: The True Story of America's Greatest Female Spy

“Now that the Allies had made good on their promises, these people were taking their uniforms out of mothballs and claiming they had been part of the Resistance all along. It was a situation repeating itself all over France.”
Judith L. Pearson, The Wolves at the Door: The True Story of America's Greatest Female Spy
