The Amiestrin Gambit by J. Kathleen Cheney
"The book opens with a ranking officer who is also a seer playing chess with the young man Llelas, who came to find out why he was being sent to the newly-reopened War College. The seer simply tells him that Llelas’ fate is bound to the king’ daugh..." Read more of this review »
The Amiestrin Gambit by J. Kathleen Cheney
"I received this as an e-ARC from the author’s Patreon. This is not a high action book, which is a plus for me, I can see it becoming a comfort book to read and re-read (once the series is finished). It’s all about the characters and Cheney always..." Read more of this review »

The Male Brain by Louann Brizendine
"I enjoyed this book. It isn't groundbreaking, in that a lot of what it says comes as no surprise to women (fact: young men really do think about sex 24 x 7) but it's easy to read and has illustrative anecdotes. The most illuminating parts were the..." Read more of this review »
The Feathered Edge by Deborah J. Ross
"The Feathered Edge is an apt title for this anthology. Within each story, from writers like Tanith Lee, Judith Tarr, Diana Paxson and other talents, the reader feels the delicate feathery touch of a kiss, and the sharp prickly edge the gives that..." Read more of this review »

Shakespeare's sonnets seem to generate more mystery and theories than the Princes in the Tower. I was intrigued by this one, particularly its subtitle.

The basic thesis of the book is this: Shakespeare didn't intend to publish the sonnets during his

I picked up an ARC of this book at Wiscon, so there was no tip-off cover picture. It wasn't clear what I'd got, but the back-cover copy was convincing: A bookshop open late at night? Vampires? Strong female main characters? Yes please.

The book was
