Wine me, dine me, er... page 169 me?
Actually I think this may be page 167, but that lost the joke, such as it was. My dear and patient readers, I am happy to say we are talking about the edited page 167 here. I just put page 230 in the can this morning and have the most sincere hopes of finishing The Lost Prince, my sequel book to A Midwinter Prince, within the next week. I'm forced to blame the shortness of August for my abysmal failure to have the book in your hands by now. Just as the manufacturers of Pringles cover their backsides by saying there are approximately one hundred crisps per packet, I really think the Creator of All Things needs to look at some kind of get-out clause for the number of days in a month, because I feel decidedly short-changed. I'd like to apologise to all my fans, family, friends, FoxTales and anyone else who knows and is ashamed of me - I hate breaking deadlines, even self-imposed ones. However, if I stop beating myself up over this and take a little more time, not only will I have what I think is a pretty good book for you, but I'll be able to get together a print version to release at the same time, and that would be fun - plus I get to use the delicious full-size paperback cover Lou Harper designed for me. So, depending on the schedules of my beloved army of beta readers, formatters and version-doers (you know who you are but possibly not how much I adore and depend upon you), I reckon we're looking at a September release, and I might even put a cautious "mid" before that "September"! (Unexpected health crises and blood transfusions permitting. For God's sake! I'm very well again now, and a big thank you to all the nice mates who've been enquiring about my haemoglobin levels, which I certainly never expected to become a matter of international concern. :-D And by the way, that can of Coke isn't mine. I'm serious about the caffeine cutback. It b'longs to the cat, 'K?!)

And my final stop on the Scorching Summer blog tour is...
Erin Nicholas! Hello, Erin. It's definitely a case of last but not least with your fun excerpt. Thank you very much for stopping by, and I'm more than happy to hand over to you. It's the day before release day for all of us, and I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you to you, Mari, Joely and Shelli for all the promo fun, and to wish you all the very best for Tuesday!
Thanks for letting me spend some time here today, Harper!
On June 11th, Samhain Publishing is going to deliver five Scorching Summer romances to help you kick your summer off right! I’m so excited to be a part of the party with Harper, Shelli Stevens, Joely Sue Burkhart and Mari Carr!
She’s the One is extra exciting because it starts a new sexy contemporary series for me! Counting on Love is a spin-off series from my Bradford series and I’m really having fun getting to know these new people while still visiting some of my favorite old friends. She’s the One will be followed by It Takes Two in September and Best of Three in November with books four and five coming in 2014! So I hope that you’ll mark your calendars for all of the hot reads coming your way June 11th and that you’ll get to know and love Ryan and Amanda in She’s the One!
She’s the One
Counting on Love, Book 1
Sometimes you see love clearly. And sometimes it has to smack you in the face.
When a stranger walks up and punches him, Ryan Kaye assumes there’s a good reason. But he’s stunned to learn it’s over a one-night stand that never happened —with his friend’s sister, straight-laced Amanda Dixon. When Ryan confronts her about the lie, Amanda apologizes, but Ryan realizes he doesn’t want her to be sorry…he wants the night they supposedly spent together.
Amanda’s not looking to add anyone to her long list of commitments, so she was only trying to let a nice guy down easy by telling him a fling with Ryan broke her heart. So what if the fling only happened in her dreams? But when Ryan Kaye tempts her with the chance to go crazy and fulfill a few fantasies, she can’t resist. Thank goodness one night isn’t enough time to fall in love…
Warning: Contains a hot paramedic who knows how to get a girl to let her hair down, a girl who thinks she prefers her hair up, some naughty laser tag, some naughty role-playing and a lot of falling in love.
Excerpt:
Olivia, their youngest sister, chose that moment to slip into the booth. “Sorry I’m late.” She looked from one sister to the other. The tension was palpable. “Oh boy, what did I miss?”
“Nothing much,” Emma answered, leaning her forearms onto the table. “Amanda’s just informing me that I’m the biggest slut she knows and that I can’t be trusted out in public with our mother anymore.”
Olivia looked at Amanda. “I’m sure that was word for word.”
“No. But ‘pull that stick out of your butt’ is a direct quote,” Amanda told her.
Emma sighed heavily. “You’re just pissed that I know how to have a good time.”
“That’s not why I’m pissed,” Amanda said. “And you know it.”
“Okay, how about we take it down a notch?” Olivia said. “Before somebody says something she doesn’t mean.”
“No,” Emma said, “I’d love to hear what Amanda has to say here. What would you do, big sis, if you let yourself do whatever you wanted? I’d love to know. Spike your hot chocolate? Maybe wear three-inch heels instead of flats? Oh, I know, you’ll get a Brazilian instead of a regular bikini wax?”
Amanda felt her cheeks heat, and it wasn’t with embarrassment. She had three younger sisters. Three. Isabelle was almost as daring and sassy as Emma was. Almost. But no one—no one—could make her as crazy as quickly as Emma did.
“You really think you invented drinking games and flirting?” Amanda had done her share of partying and had gotten into plenty of her own trouble. But it had only taken one time of getting in way too deep for her to pull back and grow up.
That didn’t mean that she never wanted to push the limits now, though. She did. On a regular basis. She wanted to be just like Emma. She wasn’t proud of it, but she was honest. “For God’s sake, Emma, what you do doesn’t exactly take brains or talent.”
“That’s not what Ryan said,” Emma shot back. “Or Derek or Tom or Justin or—”
“I’ve decided what I want for my birthday.”
They both stopped and looked at Olivia.
“You want to hear it?” she asked them.
Emma sighed. “Really? Amanda and I were kind of having a moment here.”
Amanda couldn’t help it. She smiled. When Emma got mad, it was like every other emotion she felt—she wanted to experience it fully, revel in it even.
“Well, you both have said more than your share and I want a chance to talk,” Olivia said.
Amanda took a deep breath. It was for the best. She didn’t want to hurt her sister. “Okay, fine, Liv. What do you want for your birthday?”
“For you and Emma to trade places. For one weekend.”

Another Scorching Summer author stops by on Harper's blog!
Thank you so much for allowing me to crash your blog, Harper! Are you ready for a Scorching Summer? On June 11th some smokin’ RED HOT Samhain reads will be released from authors Mari Carr, Erin Nicholas, Harper Fox and Shelli Stevens, and I’m honored to have my book, Her Grace’s Stable, included in such a fantastic lineup!
What a mix it is, too, offering contemporary to historical M/M to what I call “A Jane Austen Space Opera.” Her Grace’s Stable is a crazy fun mix of steampunk/SF, femdom, MMF ménage, and yes, pony play.
Now don’t be alarmed if pony play isn’t quite your thing. I was scared to death when Arthur showed up and showed me all the things he wanted…needed…to explore. The deeper I went into his fantasy, the hotter it got. He’s not into humiliation play at all, but is in search of a loving, healing relationship. He can only find his way back to humanity by freeing his secret need and embracing his darkest side.
Luckily, Violet, the Black Duchess of the Queen’s Light Dragoons, knows exactly how to unbridle that wild stallion.
Get your copy of Her Grace’s Stable at Samhain, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble.
We’re giving away some incredible prizes including a $50 gift certificate as well as individual gifts like my Jane Austen Royal Mail stamp set, so be sure to stop by Shelli’s , Erin’s , and Harper’s blogs to enter often!
Excerpt:
Agonizing bliss racked his entire body. Spasm after spasm shook him and he couldn’t stop. He’d never allowed a man to touch him intimately, but the last thing he wanted was for his new friend to cease the gentle stroking. A simple cleansing had never felt so good. After agonizing need and pain for so long, even another man’s touch felt incredible.
I’m that desperate.
That’s how low I’ve fallen.
He collapsed against the smaller man, unable to stop the shaking sobs that escaped. They didn’t sound human. He hadn’t been human for a long time. Surely a real man wouldn’t cry like a baby in another man’s arms.
“Shhh, you’re going to be all right now,” Cole whispered, stroking his hair with those incredible hands. “You’ll see. Lady Blackmyre’s a rare mistress, good and kind, hard when she needs to be, and so calm, so confident, so…so…”
“Commanding.” He winced at the rawness of his throat.
“So you can talk. Can you tell me your name?”
Better late than never, he tried to think through his options. He’d been kicking himself for one idiotic choice after another. Desperation had driven him to trust someone, who’d then betrayed him to his family. Their betrayal hurt most of all. He’d rather die than let anyone find out who he was, but if he didn’t give out his House name, he doubted even the Duchess would recognize him.
“Arthur.”
“Good to meet you, Arthur. Let’s rest here awhile and when you’re ready, do you think you’ll have the strength to make our way to Blackmyre?”
“I thank you for your help, but I need to be moving on.”
“You need help.” Cole didn’t make any demands or raise his voice with insistence—but he spoke with the quiet conviction of common sense, which made it difficult for Arthur to argue. “You’re weak and hurt. You’ve been horribly mistreated, which takes quite a toll on a man’s body.”
You have no idea what toll has been taken on my body. Despite the man’s considerate attention, Arthur couldn’t help the tension screaming through his muscles. Fight, flee, destroy, rage, that’s all he had left. He hadn’t even been able to call his body his any longer. The last thing he wanted to do was put himself anywhere near that deceptively small lady. She had the calm confidence to stand inside a confined space with a wild animal of a man without a single glimmer of fear or doubt. God only knew to what new lows she could bring him.

Another Scorching Summer author visits my blog! ***Adult content***
Hi, all! This is my second handover on the Scorching Summer blog-hop event, this time to the talented author who came up with the whole idea, Mari Carr. She’s here to tell you all about her 11th June release from Samhain Publishing, Full Moon, and it’s a hot one, so be prepared for adult content. Welcome, Mari, and my blog is now all yours.Scorching Summer is here!
I’m thrilled to be participating in a celebration of RED HOT reads with some of the most talented writers I know. On June 11, my book, Full Moon, will release alongside Harper’s new story, Brothers of the Wild North Sea, as well as books by Erin Nicholas, Joely Sue Burkhart and Shelli Stevens!
Today, Harper is allowing me to shanghai her blog to do a little shouting about Full Moon. In the two years since her divorce was finalized, Josie’s life has become one long, boring routine. Work, home, repeat. She has her hands full as a single parent, and while she’s not looking for a serious relationship, she sure wouldn’t mind getting laid.
When her friend Zoey challenges her to make a New Year’s resolution for a second chance at happiness, Josie goes one better and creates the “Howl List”. Every full moon, she will indulge in a different sexual fantasy. Right at the top? Sex without strings.
Fate leads her to the Blue Moon bar in January. After all, what better place to howl? And when she meets Jake Stewart, the sexy bartender, and engages in some red-hot sex with a stranger, her year seems to be off to a great start.
At least, until Jake declares he wants all her full moons…
Today’s Howl List item?
Anal Sex
Jake ran his fingers through her slit, slick with water and arousal, and then pushed two inside her pussy.
She raised her hands to the shower wall, using them for support and leverage as she moved in time with the thrusting of his hand. Her eyes closed when she felt the first twinges of her orgasm approaching.
It never made land. Jake withdrew from her. She started to protest, to rise, but he held her in place as his hand drifted to a different opening.
She fell silent, anxious for his touch. Several times over the past few weeks, she’d recalled the slight pinch of his finger in her ass as he pressed her against the wall of the bar. Josie had loved the touch as much as she’d feared what came next.
What if the pain was too much to bear? What if she wanted to stop?
As if he’d read her mind, Jake paused. “It’s your fantasy, Josie. We can explore it or not. It’s your call.”
“If it hurts—”
“I’ll stop. God, Josie, I never want to do anything that doesn’t bring you pleasure. I wouldn’t hurt you.”
Jake had claimed this full moon because he insisted she needed to try this with a friend, not a stranger. He’d been right. She would never have come this far with someone she didn’t know, didn’t trust.
And as crazy as it seemed given their short acquaintance, she did trust Jake. That thought stopped her in her tracks. She trusted him.
“Josie?”
“I want to try.”
Full Moon is available for preorder from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Samhain.
Be sure to check out Erin, Shelli and Joely Sue’s blogs as well because I’ll be sharing different Howl list items and excerpts! And don’t forget to enter the contest—lots of prizes, lots of chances to win!
Thank you, Mari! Here's that rafflecopter link for you again -

Introducing my first Scorching Summer guest, Shelli Stevens!
Are you ready to get hot? ;) Scorching Summer has arrived! In case you don't know me, I'm Shelli Stevens, and I'm seriously excited to be sharing an upcoming release day with some fun, talented authors! Check out these fantastic books releasing June 11th from Samhain Publishing.
Good Girl Gone Plaid by Shelli Stevens (that's me!)
Her Grace's Stable by Joely Sue Burkhart
Full Moon by Mari Carr
Brothers of the Wild North Sea by Harper Fox
She's the One by Erin Nicholas
Today Harper is allowing me to hang out on her blog and share a bit about Good Girl Gone Plaid, and sneak you a pic of my prize! Thanks, Harper.
Let me say the title of this book came to me first, and I developed the series around it. I adore The McLaughlins, my imported Scottish family who now resides on Whidbey Island in the Pacific Northwest. And, seriously, I hope you adore the first in the series, too!
Falling for the bad boy is even more dangerous the second time around.
* * *
The McLaughlins, Book 1
In high school Sarah fell for her best friend’s older brother—one of the sexy, Scottish McLaughlin boys. But a painful betrayal showed her she’d been a fool to give her heart to a bad boy. At least it made it easier to leave him and move halfway around the world when her Navy dad got stationed in Japan.
Eleven years later, the death of her grandmother has forced Sarah back to Whidbey Island for a month. It’s the length of time she must stay in her inherited house before she’s allowed to sell it, take the money and run. But when she sees Ian, bad as ever and still looking like sin on a stick, she can’t keep her mouth from watering.
One look at Sarah stirs up the regret lingering in Ian’s heart—and never-forgotten desire lingering in his body. He should walk away, especially since divorced single mothers aren’t his style. But when she starts showing up at his family’s pub, he can’t resist a little casual seduction for old time’s sake.
One thing quickly becomes clear, though. The heat between them is causing an avalanche of secrets and betrayal and nothing will ever be the same.
WARNING
A bad-boy hero who’s good with his hands, a heroine who’s trying to be good. Contains liberal consumption of Scotch whisky, a Highland Games competition, men in kilts wielding large poles, and a potential Sarah McLaughlin of the non-musical kind.
Now available for pre-order on Kindle | Nook | Kobo | Samhain
Excerpt
The car began to slow in a jerky spurts, and the thud, thud, thud came from what sounded like a flat tire.
Kenzie maneuvered the car to the side of the road and put it in park. She glanced over at Sarah and winced.
“Umm…”
“Flat tire? I’ve got this.” Sarah reached for her seatbelt. “My dad made sure I knew how to change one before I even got my license.”
“That’s not it. I know how to change a tire too.” Kenzie tugged on a braid and grimaced. “It’s just I was going on a camping trip a few weeks ago and wanted a little extra space—”
“You took out the spare?” Sarah guessed.
“I took out the spare.”
Some things never changed. Fighting the urge to laugh or groan in frustration, Sarah just shrugged.
“Do you have AAA? We can get them out here—”
“No need. I’ve got brothers.” Kenzie waved her hand, already dialing a number on her cell phone.
She was calling her brother? Gripping the seatbelt now, Sarah’s stomach went into full on butter churn mode.
She couldn’t face him. Couldn’t see him.
“Kenzie…” Her plea was almost inaudible, but her friend must’ve heard it—and the sudden anxiety in her voice—because she glanced over quickly.
Sympathy flashed in her eyes. “Hey, don’t sweat it. I’m calling Aleck.”
Aleck. The oldest McLaughlin brother. Relief came immediately and filtered through her taut muscles. She managed a weak nod before resting her head back against the seat.
She couldn’t focus on the conversation Kenzie was having. Couldn’t do anything but try and get her heart rate back to normal.
What a stupid, ridiculous overreaction. What the hell was wrong with her?
“Help is on the way.” Kenzie set her phone down in her lap and sighed. After a moment, she cast a sideways glance Sarah’s way. “You know I wouldn’t do that to you. I wouldn’t throw you into an awkward situation with Ian. It’s not my business, and you need to face those demons when you’re ready.”
She’d be ready about a quarter after never. Wasn’t going to happen. Couldn’t happen. But, dammit, she’d known that just being on the island was gambling with the fact it might happen.
“I’m only here for a short while.” Sarah hesitated, trying to figure out how to put it delicately. “No offense, but you’re the only McLaughlin I intended to spend time with.”
A flicker of sadness passed over her friend’s face, but she nodded. “Understandable. Sorry I threw a wrench in those plans by making Aleck bring me a spare.”
“It’s fine. Really.” She could handle Aleck. He’d always been sweet and funny. Very much like a big brother she’d never had but wouldn’t have minded having.
Kenzie nodded. “Okay. So tell me about Virginia. How do you like living there?”
Appreciating the change of subject, Sarah told her about what had brought her there and how living across the country was. She’d begun to relax again, to enjoy the conversation with her old friend, when Kenzie whipped around and stared out the rearview window.
“Son of a bitch.”
“What is it?” Sarah turned to follow her gaze.
The red Camaro that roared up behind Kenzie’s car stopped maybe a foot from them, close enough to make her think he’d nudge their bumper.
That car. She knew that car.
Her heart, which she’d managed to slow, picked right back up again.
Please no.
“Can’t anybody follow instructions?” Kenzie growled, and opened her door. “Stay in here, Sarah. I’ll handle this.”
This wasn’t happening. Sarah shook her head as the Camaro door opened and six feet of tall, hard male slid out.
Everything inside her head started to spin as he strode toward Kenzie, a big, shit-eating grin on his face.
Sarah gripped the edge of her seat, her nails digging into the fabric. Her neck started to protest the awkward, twisted position, but she couldn’t look away.
Shock cocooned her body, but through it, almost clinically, she drank him in. He looked so much like he had eleven years ago. Beneath the tinted sunglasses she knew she’d find those rare, piercing green eyes all the McLaughlins had.
His brown hair held a hint red in the sunlight, and it was just a little too long. The body, still tall and solid, was maybe even bigger now. It looked as if he’d taken up lifting weights.
His shoulders were wide and she couldn’t help but remember how she used to cling to them when his mouth was on hers. How those shoulders, and his hands on her waist, had been the only things that kept her standing.
Just like all the McLaughlin boys, he was entirely too sexy. But more than sexy, he seemed dangerous. Especially now. He was the ultimate bad boy, seemed happy to claim the title and revel in it.
Instinct demanded she run. That she jump out of the car and run like a startled deer into the woods, no matter how illogical and ridiculous it seemed.
Whatever Kenzie was yelling at her brother couldn’t reach her ears through the car, but the tone did. Kenzie was livid.
Her brother shook his head, and then his big grin vanished. He yanked off his sunglasses and whipped his gaze to the car to where Sarah sat in frozen disbelief.
Their gazes locked and her world bottomed out.
It was unavoidable. She would have to face him. The realization that she had no choice became evident when Ian ignored her sister’s protests and strode toward the car.
No, no, no.
Despite the childish instinct to hit the lock and keep him out, she made no effort to stop him when he reached her door and pulled it open.
“As I live and breathe. Sarah Thornton.” His Scottish accent was faint, but stronger than his sister’s. The voice was so familiar and had the power to make her knees weaken.
But even though he smiled, his eyes were frigid emerald stones that pierced deep. They were potent enough to shatter her heart all over again.
He tilted his head and murmured, “Welcome back to Whidbey Island.”

Warning! Harper’s about to try promo :-D
However, this time I have help, and that’s going to make it all a lot more enjoyable. As you’ll see from the graphic, 11th June is our Scorching Summer release-day event. This terrific idea is the brainchild of my friend Mari Carr, and I’ll be sharing a Samhain release date with her and three other talented and very friendly authors – Shelli Stevens, Erin Nicholas and Joely Sue Burkhart. We’re a diverse bunch, offering among other genres contemporary M/F, historical M/M and even some steampunk S/F!
We’re going to be celebrating our new books with a blog tour and some pretty cool prizes, including a $50 gift cert for Amazon or Barnes & Noble, and some nifty individual gifts of our own. Just in case anyone has forgotten already that I suck at marketing, whilst the other ladies thought up smart ideas for naming their gifts, the best I could do for my signed drinks coaster and mousemat was “Harper’s Wild North Coast(er)”.
**headdesk**
If you have a look at my website here, http://www.harperfox.net/, you’ll see our Scorching Summer logo and a clever gadget called a rafflecopter, which gives you a chance to win. Now, I’ll also be including the rafflecopter at the end of my fellow authors’ blog posts on each day of the blog tour, so you don’t have to dash to enter now, but it’s there if you want to have a play with it. I have to say thanks once more to Mari here because prior to now I wouldn’t have known a rafflecopter if it landed on me hard with both skids and the rotors still whirling.
My hosting schedule is as follows for the tour here on LJ, which I’ll be linking of course to Facebook so that all my good mates in both communities can get a look at the diverse talent on offer:-
Shelli: 2nd June
Mari: 4th June
Joely Sue: 7th June
Erin: 10th June
So watch out for those, all leading up to our big release day on the 11th, and here’s hoping you really enjoy reading our excerpts, finding out a little more about us, and joining in the general fun!

Harper's Big May Day Giveaway - results!
Well, that was interesting, and thank you all so much for your comments. *Very* useful market research for me, and Half Moon Chambers came out as a clear favourite for audiobook conversion in due course. So not only do I have to hire a narrator with an English accent, he has to be just enough of a northern lad to carry off the part without becoming incomprehensible to anyone outside of sunny Newcastle upon Tyne! Never fear, I'll find him.
Meanwhile, here are my three winners - from Facebook, Leslie Bradner and Charles Ruebsamen, and from Livejournal, Plated Lizard. Well done to all three of you! Check my website and choose your free ebook here - http://www.harperfox.net/books/ - or, if you've been kind and wonderful enough to read all my current work, I'll put you down for a copy of Brothers Of The Wild North Sea when it releases in June.
Just email me at harperfox777@yahoo.co.uk telling me your choice and the format you'd prefer (Kindle mobi, PDF or epub), and I'll send your prizes winging their way to you!
Thank you all so much for playing along and sharing your ideas and thoughts.
