Born and raised in the Washington DC area, Courtney began moving west when she was 18. She stopped in Oberlin, OH for a little learnin' then moved eventually out to California, working and writing all the way. She ended up in the San Francisco Bay Area for almost eight years, and wrote When Heaven Calls mostly in basements and tiny studio apartments in Oakland.

Courtney eventually made her way back to the Washington DC area where she wrote the bulk of Desert Nights, which is available beginning 4th of July, 2014. She currently resides in Silver Spring, MD.
