Childhood memories

Certain events when we're young can have a far-reaching effect on us. When I was very young, my older brother played a joke on me. He took the book Curious George--about a chimpanzee--and for each time the word 'George' appeared, he replaced it with 'Mark'. This, along with falling in love with the movies Dr. Doolittle and Born Free, was the first step toward the creation of The Monkey Bible. What events from your formative years turned you on to the animal kingdom?

Richard Feynman

"All scientific knowledge is uncertain. This experience with doubt and uncertainty is important...and ...extends beyond the sciences. ...to solve any problem that has never been solved before, you have to leave the door to the unknown ajar. You have to permit that possibility that you do not have it exactly right. Otherwise, if you have made up your mind already, you might not solve it." --Dr. Richard Feynman

This Week on MOUNTAIN LAKE JOURNAL EXTRA
November 18th, 8:30p
SPOTLIGHT: The Monkey Bible
Paul Larson speaks with author Mark Laxer about religion, science, and the origin of the human race. Laxer spent years researching scientific topics to accurately portray what scientists think about evolution. He also has reached out to the religious community to explore the mystical origins of human beings. Laxer says his goal is to bridge the gap between scientists and religious people so that people in both communities will feel compelled to work together to solve the problems currently facing our world and the creatures who live in it, including us! His novel The Monkey Bible is a work of fiction, but presents science in a factual way, and offers potential solutions to the problems that plague our world. Laxer's project also includes a music CD, a rock opera, and a live show.
