Angry villagers and a lioness

Just back from Africa. Toured Uganda and visited Kenya,
to learn, listen, build partnerships for our vEcotourism
project. Insanely beautiful, educational, hopeful and sad--particularly
an emotionally charged encounter with angry villagers and
a lioness. More on that soon.

Weird weather

Weather has been crazy...storms have been violent here in northern Vermont. What's it like where you are?

Scary article!

Scariest article I've read in years. Genetic firewall? Directed "automated" evolution? This takes the discussion of "the line" from The Monkey Bible to entirely new level. Read this article!!

"Evolution machine: Genetic engineering on fast forward - life - 27 June 2011 - New Scientist
Automated genetic tinkering is just the start – this machine could be used to rewrite the language of life and create new species of humans"

Charlie Darwin, rising waters by Low Anthem

From Low Anthem

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66SPUQEgEKk

"The video for The Low Anthem's "Charlie Darwin," off their 2009 Nonesuch debut, "Oh My God, Charlie Darwin," matches the band's haunting music to poignant visuals, created by Glenn Z Taunton and Simon Taffe for End of the Road Films using stop-motion animation."

This song captures something of the beauty, sadness, and unbelievable change
brought by Charlie and some of his, and others', ideas.

Bats and mosquitoes

At its heart, The Monkey Bible is about the protection of wildlife and biodiversity. Last night, I went to a talk about bats. Many North American bat species are on the verge of extinction. What does that mean for you, you might wonder. The number of bugs--mosquitoes included--eaten by bats is (was?) staggering. Where is the research funds to understand and take measures against White Nose Syndrome?

Your passion

What is your passion? What keeps you awake, fired up, well past a reasonable bedtime? For me during the past decade: wildlife conservation, science education, building bridges between religion and science, exploring through the arts what it means to be human. The Monkey Bible Project is a reflection of this journey. Come join me. This journey, which will take me to your state, your country, is just beginning...

Athiests unloved

Athiests are foolish, corrupt, incapable of doing any good, so saith Psalm 14. So saith this article. What saith you?
