I'm a writer and editor living in Minneapolis. My day job is as a digital producer at The Current, Minnesota Public Radio's station for new music. I'm also a co-founder of The Tangential and theater critic at City Pages. Books I've written, co-written, or co-edited include Sexts from the Sea (2016), The Summer of 40 (2015), Bright Lights, Twin Cities (2014), Future Cities (2013), Sociology for Dummies (2010), Insiders' Guide to the Twin Cities (2010), and Reconstructing the University (2006). I'm on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, and Snapchat — where you can probably figure out how to find me. Gmail: jaygabler.

A brisk romp through the stars for middle readers; despite the framing it doesn't have much to do with The Force Awakens, but it turns out to provide some key Return of the Jedi backstory. Very attractively designed and illustrated.

David Dann doesn't want anything unreasonable. He doesn't need you to praise Michael Bloomfield's solo albums as undiscovered classics. He doesn't think you need to believe the guitarist was better than this, that, or the other legendary axe-wielder. ...more
