This is a business of constant rejection, and it's often not personal. Even excellent books get rejected because they don't fit the publisher's needs. So if you have had your book critiqued and polished and it's rejected, shrug it off and submit elsewhere.

A thick skin and confidence is also needed in the critique stage. You need to be able to take constructive criticism and to be willing to tear something apart and revise. I spent all of 2016 doing this with my DragonEye series. I've basically tossed out two attempts at an origin story (50,000+ words) and revised a significant part of my world based on the advice of my new mentor and crit group. The resulting novel is going to be lighter and more fun, but it was hard work, and I've got 20 years' experience novel writing.(less)

If I am not writing, something inside me is causing me to not write - a story intimidates me, I'm not happy with my current books sales, I'm feeling lazy... The only answer is to address the issue and to write, write, write, even if I don't feel like it. Imagine if lawyers got "blocked" or carpenters or police officers and then used that excuse to stop doing their work. Writing, while creative, is still something you must choose to do when the words don't come easily.(less)

Space Traipse by Karina Fabian
"Consistently funny!

Great humor throughout the book, much of it dry, which I think is one of the best to fit with Syfy. The characters were very entertaining with lots of witty banter. There was some silliness and absurdity as well. Laughed out lou..." Read more of this review »

“Deryl, we all make mistakes; we all get twisted in some way or another. Some of us do horrifying, evil things. But that doesn’t make us evil, and yanking out a chunk of your personality isn’t going to make you good. It just makes you incomplete.”
Karina L. Fabian, Mind Over All

“in the Mundane world, dragons are liberal arts majors.”
Karina Lumbert Fabian, Magic, Mensa, & Mayhem

“Is it not enough that species after species on this earth fades into extinction at a rate of one per minute?" I did some math. "That means every species on your planet would be extinct in ninety-six years. When did you start counting?”
Karina Lumbert Fabian, Magic, Mensa, & Mayhem
