The Rise of Ugly Socialism in the Democratic Party

Last year the fiftieth anniversary edition of my old SDS book was published, the classic history of the central organization and essential creative center of the New Left in the 1960’s..  I contributed a preface in which I pointed out that the kind of “warmed-over Marxist-Gramscianism that purported to be the Left” for most of the decades after that time was the form of “dried-out socialism and authoritarian government that SDS in its serious years would have rejected out of hand.”  There was no...

Predictably, the NYT Fear Mongers Over Kennedy’s Possible Role in a Trump Administration Louis Conte

Today, in front of the Washington monument, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, and many others will address supporters during a rally billed as “Rescue the Republic.” There will be thousands of people, but, not surprisingly, the establishment press will largely ignore what the speakers and the public have to say.

The event celebrates eight pillars for the U.S. to live by. Arguably, the most important is the final one – “truth seeking and open dialogue.” Both have been radically lacking in the...

October’s Surprise Party

As another October approaches, the beautiful season of colors begins here in New England, call it October’s Surprise Party.  The turning leaves with all their colors come to announce the earth’s glory, the possibility of peace and happiness for all.

Yet as the month transpires and November nears, I think we might expect what for many will be the unexpected, as Bob Dylan reminds us with “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.” Listen: “I heard the sound of a thunder that roared out a warnin’/I heard the roa...

Watching the China River Flow

Like a river undisturbed while traversing a rocky wilderness, China silently flows away on its path to peaceful primacy.

Leading website Guancha has published the transcript of a first-class lecture at Renmin University on China-U.S. relations by Martin Jacques, author of When China Rules the World. Jacques is one of the very few Westerner scholars with on the ground experience who actually understands the Chinese psyche and way of life in contrast to the West.

A particularly intriguing section ...

Could Helene Have Been a DARPA Creation?

I went to sleep early the evening of September 26 expecting a 130 mph hurricane Helene to pass directly over my home at about midnight. I woke up at 12:30 AM. Did not hear hurricane winds. I woke again at 3:30 AM. Too quiet. I fought off the thought that Helene had stalled just offshore and was working itself up into a 150-160 mph Category 5+, but managed to go back to sleep. My cats roused me at 6AM. A tiny bit of light from a morning that was trying to get underway, and no destruction. And no ...

It’s All True

In case you missed it, global governance was instituted on 13 September 2024, through something called the Pact for the Future. Remember the Global Citizen Digital ID conspiracy theory? It’s in there. Remember the WHO pandemic treaty surrendering all national sovereignty in the event of a “health emergency”? It’s in there. Remember how the radical-right fringe wingnuts have been saying the schools are nothing but indoctrination centers? You ain’t seen nothing yet, and it’s in there, too. Here’s ...

How Israel Torpedoed Washington’s Global Strategy

Israel is neither a friend nor ally of the United States. Israel looks out for Israel 100 percent of the time and really doesn’t care what happens to anyone else. Americans have been brainwashed into believing that Israel is “our pit-bull in the Middle East” who keeps the natives in line. But this simply isn’t true. Israel’s activities in the region undermine US interests and inflict severe damage to America’s public image. Here’s how foreign policy expert John Mearsheimer summed it up:

Israel i...

Will Lebanon Be Next After Gaza?

Few people know that Lebanon was once part of Syria. It was detached from Syria by Imperial France and made into a nominally Maronite Christian nation. Sunni Muslims, Shia Muslims and Druzes were also encompassed in this newly engineered country of 6 million.

Then came 100,000 Palestinian refugees driven from their ancestral home in what is today Northern Israel. The admixture of these Palestinian refugees enflamed Lebanon’s traditional ferocious tribal rivalries. In 1975 they burst into major c...

National Socialism Was Socialist

These days, supporters of President Trump and others on the right are often smeared as “fascists,” and what is meant by this is that they support the Nazis. For example, the historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat says: “To get people to lose their aversion to violence, savvy authoritarians also dehumanize their enemies. That’s what Trump is doing. Hitler used this ploy from the very start, calling Jews the ‘black parasites of the nation’ in a 1920 speech. By the time Hitler got into power in 1933 and translat...

Kamala’s Humorless Hatred for Catholics Continues

Allow me the grace to be able to take a joke to discover in life a bit of joy, and to be able to share it with others. —St. Thomas More

It is a decidedly Catholic quality to take oneself lightly and bring levity to the heaviest situations. In the heat of American politics, therefore, it is fitting that a Catholic event be the occasion for some lightheartedness. But Catholic animus on the Left is keeping its members from falling from the coconut tree to have a laugh with Catholics.

The Alfred E. ...
